I feel that often our quest for intimacy and romance leaves us feeling unseen, misunderstood, lost... And we so regularly forget that we possess that intimacy or closeness in so other connections and in so many other relationships outside romantic ones. With people, nature, sometimes your own mind… Mark, thank you for another masterpiece that enlightens and inspires :)

My favorite line from a film is in "Fried Green Tomatoes" when Jessica Tandy is asked, "What's the most important thing in life?" and she answers, "Friends". Makes me cry every time I see that scene.

Thanks Mark. I'm glad you're Happy. Though it seems life has been good for you for a long time. Every video just shows more Abundance and one thinks a guy couldn't glow any brighter then he does ! Also, so impressed with you taking a leadership position in this video. Not just as an advertisement for therapy, but prompting the question what is the difference between Romance and Intimacy? Which I think is a very good question for our community to be asking. I've done therapy off and on since I was a teenager and it has been Transcendental. I signed up for Better Help a couple months back after a youtuber who makes mechanical art recommended it. KZbin ads just usually bounce right off me, but I appreciate the reminder about online therapy. I hope that it can circumnavigate some of the problems of an IRL counselor (who are overworked / burned out but the only thing one's insurance will pay for...) - I feel like we are all growing up together. Thanks for what you do :) . P.s. I'm glad Olive has recovered, as a dog dad myself I can understand the trauma of having an injured / sick dog. Have a good week. 🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉

Reminds of a quote from greek philosopher Aristotle. He said, “Man is by nature a social animal; an individual who is unsocial naturally and not accidentally is either beneath our notice or more than human. Society is something that precedes the individual.” Man cannot live alone.

One of the first and most profound things I learned in therapy, centering around past trauma from bullying, was “people are not inherently bad.” No one was born cruel and malicious, or as Liam O’Brien said as Caleb I the Mighty Nein campaign of Critical Role, “you were not born with venom in your veins, you LEARNED it.”

This is the result of someone that either has gone to or is in therapy. You break down a lot of social constructs set up by society and media, you peel the layers and layers of years of our lives reaching to the actual issue/feeling/trauma that then allows us to heal and everything after just feels better. I've been going to therapy for about 1.5 years and it has changed the way I think, the way I see things and as an adult it just enhances our understanding of things. And a huge thing is separating feelings and logic, even if we logically (with our head) shouldn't feel a certain way, if we feel it we feel it and there is a reason for it and there is no problem with that.

I love your videos and have been watching for years. This video resonated with me as I have been feeling very much the same as you as I am single gay (older) who had been romanticising over someone but a few months back got the reality check when he said that the feeling was mutual. We are still the best of friends and share everything and your link to intimacy has helped me understand that little more. He’s recently started dating and I love seeing him happy but it hurts so friggen much. I am lonely as ever and trying to put things into place to get out and make social connections but struggling to do so. I have cried more in the past few months than I have in my lifetime. You video had me burst into tears but only because it helped me realise that I’m not the only one with these feelings. THANK YOU for helping me see that it is not me, it’s the situation, and it will get better. ❤❤ (from another Mark - it must be something in the name).

Honestly, that need for people is very different for introverts versus extroverts. For extroverts, other people recharge them, and I think you Mark are an extrovert and that’s what you’re responding to here and was your need. For introverts, other people can kind of be their nightmare and drain them of all energy and they need to be alone to recharge themselves.

I think the problem is that a lot of people believe they are 100% introverted or 100% extroverted and for most people that’s not the case. I won’t claim it with certainty, but I think most people are somewhere on a spectrum of intro/extroversion. So Mark experienced something a lot of us also have to learn with age, if you start to get those feelings of loneliness it may be that you are not truly 100% introverted and you do need people in your life to help fulfill that intrinsic need. I won’t claim that’s the case for you! But I really appreciate Mark pointing out that we may experience something similar to him at some point and may realize we need other people in our lives to help fulfill that need.

A very smart idea about intimacy. I am also in search of friends, because before my ex partners had friends with whom we were friends together, or I was friends with their friends, and it just so happened that after breaking up we stopped communicating with everyone. Now my partner has no friends except his brothers. And I'm looking for my own at last 😂 This turned out to be a really difficult thing.
