Retired now in Cebu City. If I were to go back to the USA, our budget to live there compared to what we have here in the Philippines, would cost me $8500 a month. So $3000 a month here in Cebu City is really really cheap if you compare apples to apples. For a family of 4. I'm including everything we have here in the Philippines= medical savings, savings, helper/maid, traveling, private schooling, new car, medical insurance, repairs, taxes, eating out, coffee out.

@@Marker44 usa is cheap if u own your house, no car payment, have health insurance from job, cook your own food, not eating out all the time. Americans complain, but they drive new cars and trucks, high car insurance cause of the newer cars, a house not in their budget, ...People complain about food prices, but if u cook healthy then not expensive. I find good deals on everything, i do not eat junk outside. I do not buy the newest Iphone. etc etc ,,,Americans are just cry babies, who cannot control their spending habits,,,,boo hoo

Yes living in Philippines is cheaper but at an expense…. flooding, power problem etc. Philippines is ok for short periods but living permanently is a no no.

Another opportunity to save money is to install a Solar System which will pretty much eliminate that cost too. I installed one in our retirement home in Lingayen which is 10 kw and it powers the whole house. We also sell the excess power in the day time back to the power company and then buy it back in the evening for a net effect $0.
@curtsoltau59113 ай бұрын
I forgot to mention the cost is about $15k for 10 kw and (2)) 5 kw batteries for back up power too.

I would save quite a bit on just taxes water and sewer cost roughly 13k a year alone plus another 250 a month in natural gas . My cable and internet is about $300. I would definitely look into a backup generator for brown outs .

My in-laws got flooded in Meycauayan, Bulacan but most important they're all alive. When I sell my house that my older brother was living in I'm going to use some of that money for solar so that I can save on electricity and get some new furniture for the house in Silang, Cavite. The house in the Philippines has been paid for. I think that rent is more expensive in the cities than it is in the provinces. After I get the solar installed I might see if it's possible to get aircon installed downstairs but I probably won't have any aircon in the two spare bedrooms because it's only seldom that anyone is in those. If I get anyone that would stay there for a while then I would probably buy a window aircon. That way it's easy to remove it until it needs to be used again especially to help keep unwanted people from having easy access into the house.

The prices of commodities are cheaper in Davao, Cagayan De Oro City, and Iligan City and most of the hotels are cheap too compared to other Cities in mindanao. In these Cities i mentioned, you get to find a lot of varieties of Fruits and Fresh Vegetables. If you live in Cebu, it is quite expensive, our electricity with Aircon, we spent 5thousand pesos per month, food cook in the house with snacks we spent 8 thousands pesos per week budget, i spent budget of 6 thousands per month for my children public jeepney transportation. The conversion of 1 US dollar to peso is 50+pesos. The foreign retirees are more way better if they spent their money in my country. The government of the Philippines is now working to include the foreign retirees to be entitled with discounts in establishments which is coming soon. So foreign retirees can have more joyful and memorable way of life in the Philippines.

Solar is the way to go. I say that because anyone who thinks that electricity is going to get cheaper in the Philippines is a Fool. There are simply too many jumpers and so as the number of jumpers continues to rise so will the cost of electricity for those actual paying customers.
