The main reason I would compare the future shock to the headshok is that in 5 years you won’t be able to get parts and you can replace the fork cause it’s proprietary. I have an old cannondale so I’m familiar with this.
@atx0025
@atx0025 Жыл бұрын
That's a pretty bad comparison though. Cannondale went outta business in 2003 and the Headshok came out in what 1996 and didn't even last that 7 year time? Futureshock has been on production bikes since 2016. 1) specialized isn't going anywhere and 2) they've planned a futureshock 2.0 to be released next year. So I don't think it's the best comparison.

Maybe I'm biased because I have the last gen sirrus x 5.0, but I like the design and my bike is great. I commute, ride gravel/road for fun, and I can even play around on green MTB trails on it. My only complaint is that it should have the future shock 2.0, and I always wished I could route a dropper post, but at that point you can just buy a diverge evo

I get incorporating geometry that creates a leaf spring, but why attach the seat tube rigidly to the part that will be moving up and down a lot? Probably would be way too heavy if decoupled, but would make more sense as suspension. Id rather have a classic rear triangle and more compliant seat/post.

Are you carrying your bike the wrong way? Have you tried carrying it like this: Grab the frame at the lowest point in front of the bottom bracket and position the nose/tip of the saddle on your shoulder. Works fine for me since 20 years, with every frame, road, mtb, enduro, dh.

Would be nice if someone who has ridden this bike for a longer period of time could give some kind or report on how it's holding up. I think the bike looks really nice but as someone that weights above 100 kg I'm having doubts about the robustness of that shape of a frame. :)

I don't know. Using the frame as part of the suspension seems like that's a lot of pressure on that junction, especially if you accidentally hit a pothole. I'm no engineer though, so maybe it's all good.
@choilive
@choilive Жыл бұрын
As an engineer you are right that there are a lot of forces going on in that area, but this bike is obviously purposely designed to take advantage of the stress-strain curve of the material. As long as its below the yield strength in everyday use - which even a half brain dead engineering team would properly design, simulate, and physically test the limits of - this bike should last a lifetime since carbon fiber does not have a fatique limit. If you weigh 300 lbs I wouldnt take this off any big jumps though :).

Dude, thank you! You just answered a question I’ve had for months. Well, I guess you answered it months ago (probably before I even thought of the question, lol), but I just found it! Still on the fence for now, but this is good info. Cheers!

Why not make a seatpost that has suspension built into it, like my 15yr old Carrera had...... (UK)
@nigellee7892
@nigellee7892 Жыл бұрын
It looks strikingly different and I guess it’s supposed to. Whether the frame’s form is becoming more important than its function though is perhaps the real question. However, in the real world, anyone who has ever ridden a bike which has fairly wide tyres on it (and which might be deliberately slightly under-inflated too), will know that the huge amount of flex they provide is probably at least a 1,000 times greater than that which any frame flex will provide. But I guess there’s more money to made for frame manufacturers in promoting the idea of frame micro-flex than can be made out of rubber tyres.

“Specific rack for this bike” for a commuter bike, the word *specific* means it’s instant garbage. Leave the proprietary nonsense to the high end race machines, if I’m commuting I want a dependable, sturdy bike that can take normal aftermarket accessories. The sirrus 3.0 is more than enough for any commuter, imo (or the equivalent models from any other brand)

To each his own but for me it looks hideous. I don’t understand the benefit of designing the frame that way. Not only that it lookd odd but somehow affects the structural integrity of that part of the frame, which actually the most important as it’s where the weight of the passenger will be concentrated. Sorry but this is like a joke.
