I think it's great for people to hear that one's path in life isn't always so straight forward and linear, and that the choices you make aren't set in stone. It definitely takes courage to do what you did, and I'm happy that it worked out for you!

Thank you for sharing this story and it felt so relatable at times, since I also got myself a business degree, pursued that and took marketing classes, wanted to be this same strong independent woman and also fight against my introvertedness and now I'm self studying towards fullstack. Your channel is so helpful for this journey, thank you again (and idk you, but just wanted to hug you at the emotional part, it really resonated with me and more ppl I'm sure). Thank you again for the interesting and helpful videos :)

I'm introverted too, and sometimes we just need to spend some time with ourselves. I'm glad to hear your experience, great video!

Thank you for sharing your story and experience! That was such a nice and calm video, I really enjoyed that you kept the editing to a minimum and actually left in the silent moments too. I am starting to think that maybe it’s worth trying to get into the same industry, although I am not at all sure if software engineering is something I’d be good at.

Your story really resonated with me. After 14 years in digital marketing, the last 5 as a freelancer, I'm also an introvert who struggles with self-promotion. I'm currently upskilling in backend development, which I find more fulfilling than digital marketing. Thanks for sharing your journey.

Great video! When you learn it is not magic but something you understand and can do you will never be out of work. 35 years in IT and still something new every day.
@riittap9121Күн бұрын
I don't think she meant magic as some kind of trick or something that cannot be understood. I've felt something similar. It's a sense of awe, when you get to know the inner workings of the computer or how the data packets travel over the Internet. It's quite moving when you stop to think about it, all the engineering and working together that is behind it, to bring the advancement of technology to humankind. Jim Keller reads the Cray manual every couple of years or so and he weeps while reading it - and I totally get it!

Getting emotional is not a sign a weakness!
@riittap9121Күн бұрын
I could easily get why she felt so emotional. You try to conform to the expectations of the world in the hope you'd be accepted, to have that feeling that you belong. But you still feel you don't belong and that it's not fair that you have to go against of who you are, just to be accepted. It might work for a while, but after a time it takes a heavy toll on you and it might be difficult to find back to your true self.

Thanks for sharing your story. How long it took you to learn programming? It would be great if could make a video of your road map.

Thank you for this video, I can relate alot with how you feel and what you talk about. I think it's not that uncommon to switch major. If you learn the basics of how to study/learn the "cost" of switching career or program. I studied alot of economics parallell to development and it has helped me alot in my life. I'm also curious on how you handle being introverted in a mostly extroverted world, for example the dreaded (at least for me) yearly company conference where it usually is too many people, too loud music and just generally mayhem and I leave after just one or two hours. Keep it up, I really like these videos!

Thanks for sharing your story. I was wondering, what coding language(s) did the bootcamp teach you? Are you using python and Django in your current job or do you use something different like html/CSS/JavaScript?
@VanessaWingårdhКүн бұрын
The bootcamp had three classes at the time: Java, JavaScript, .Net. I learned Java and Spring Boot. I believe they focus more on Java and .Net now because the market is saturated with JavaScript developers. To my knowledge most universities teach JavaScript as well so there is a greater need in the market for languages like Java, PHP, and COBOL. Although I learned Java at the bootcamp, I use TypeScript/JavaScript/React/AWS in my day-to-day.

@VanessaWingårdh thanks! So are you more of a front end or back end developer? Or both/neither? Sorry if these are basic questions, I'm a complete beginner!

I'm curious what tech stack IS popular in Europe. Is React still popular for frontend, but other tech for backend? Or is React not a big frontend thing like here in the U.S.?

Must be tough for an American to be introvert... moving to Sweden makes sense.
@VanessaWingårdhКүн бұрын
Yes it is tough, the Swedish culture is easier to navigate. Now in Sweden I have to explain to colleagues "I know it seems like I'm extroverted because I'm American but I promise I am introverted" 🙃

Do u also have personal projects learning other languages? For example, Go to develop blockchain or practicing Python and data structure? I think it is always fun to learn a new language. You can try LISP, it will make you a smarter person. Amazing John McCarthy developed LISP in 1958 and it is still used today. Functional languages have their own beauty. Thanks for sharing your story, it was very interesting.
@VanessaWingårdhКүн бұрын
The most recent language I tried to learn was Rust. I set up a toolchain to cross compile Rust from my MacBook to my Raspberry Pi... I could not get it to work, even after asking my embedded developer colleagues for help XD I would really like to play around with a functional language though!

if you didn't say that you are introvert it would be impossible for me to say you are . in my country being introvert is considered to be synonymous with being shy and weak . I like to show you to them and ask them Educated and talented women like this could be considered weak ? but she is an introvert. so stop looking down to introverts. ❤
@norwaybirds3015Күн бұрын
You seem highly intelligent and talented to me. It's a real issue in Corporate jobs that only extroverts get promoted. I feel this is an enormous bias of too many men in leadership roles thinking that extrovert/aggressive personality is the only successful type. Every role I have ever been in, the introverts were grinding out high volume, quality work while the extroverts were chatting up the bosses in the lunch room. It's incredibly frustrating. I think going into engineering is excellent. Highly paid and highly valued and far less needing to be the loudest person in the room. ❤ I really think this pivot early in your career will be extremely helpful to your career.
Can I please please work at your company 🙏🏻 I'm also a software engineer and currently I'm working in a company django html jQuery techstack I'm also fluent in nextjs!
