Thank you for making this video. I am going through this process right now. Moving all the 2020/21 hobby hype craze cards I bought and no longer care for. I listed over 500 raw cards already. Going through about 100 graded cards right now. At this point I’m not even worried about what I paid for them. Up on some. Down on some

I am actually currently doing the same thing with my collection right now. Taking some advice from previous videos about consolidating more nuanced cards into more "iconic" cards of my favorite players.

Even the legends like MJ, Lebron, and Kobe are taking a hit. I think investors are shifting out of the card market and positioning themselves into bitcoin and cryptos, which are the hotter assets right now. Investors always chasing the next pump. This is actually a perfect time to get that high end card at a discount.

Buying a card is not investing; it's speculation. A card is not a financial instrument (i.e. stock, bond, pref. stock, etc.). There is no way of calculating a card's real value b/c it's all based on what someone is willing to pay for it, which is nothing more than speculation. That's not to say that someone cannot make money in sports cards. It's just that there is no standard metric that can be used to determine a card's intrinsic value. If you pony up big money for a piece because you think you can sell it to the next guy for more, it's on you if the card loses its value for no other reason than speculation. If you love the card and the player then the card becomes priceless b/c it's not about the money.
@creeper2054Күн бұрын
How is that any different than crypto? I can at least hold a card.
@sovereignrulerКүн бұрын
@@creeper2054 I agree. Most crypto is for speculators, but not Bitcoin. Study it for 100 hours and you'll get an idea as to what that is.
@metsrusКүн бұрын
Sure a vast majority is about flipping and selling when it's hot, but the card market isn't always about speculation. When people buy legends and proven guys like MJ, steph, lebron, mahomes, it's usually to keep in their personal collection as long term investments. No different from people speculating on penny stocks for quick gains and flipping them to buy the blue chips for long term.
@asburycollins9182Күн бұрын
@@creeper2054its not different. But its different than stocks for instance
@asburycollins9182Күн бұрын
@@metsrusit is different bc stocks are businesses and they produce a product or offer a service thereby generating value. Cards do not generate value. You can calculate the point at which a stock is too cheap. If they make 200 mil profit and have 200 mil assets and are solid business they should be worth more than 800 at the very least right. The cards are worth money only bc people care. If they dont care they are worth nothing. And thats why its different

@MarketMoversКүн бұрын
I would love to see that gap close, over time. Whether or not it will, I do not know. But it does seem silly to me to pay a massive 3-4x premium for a PSA 10 of an ultra modern card when there are hundreds or even thousands of them.

I used to deal in military antiques so I know how the game works. I get how to buy, how to sell, and selling at shows. It's all the same principal. But with cards, the sellers are INSANE. If a guy has a few $5 cards, and mostly $1 or less cards, he wants you to pay full retail for all of it, plus sometimes a premium. I tell these people, I'm reselling. I can't pay you 125% value on them. I see some cards that last year were worth $15 are not going for $2 today. They still want the $15. And these $1 cards? I can spent days listing everyone of them, they wont sell anytime soon. What are they really worth? NOTHING. I want to do this because my son and I are both into cards, and we want to have some fun buying and selling. But so far, it's not fun at all.

T pot whats the benefit of sending to a consignment rather than just listing yourself?
@MarketMoversКүн бұрын
It is far less work, often gets more eyes on your listings, and - if the card is expensive enough - can actually save you money on fees versus listing yourself (many times it is 10% or less versus 15% if you sell yourself).
