I just bought a 1960s Silvertone 1448 at this antique store today in Buford, GA... the one with the amp in the case. Everything works too! I wish I could set it up like you did this one!! I guess I could put some elbow grease into it, but I don't wanna mess it up!

That's a fantastic find! You got a great one! My only advise is to NOT use isopropyl alcohol to clean the guitar. It will ruin the finish.

Don’t know which is cooler… that you restored a timeless classic, or the video you made doing it! Felt like I was watching a master restore the Mona Lisa. Bravo!! And thank you! Also, can I safely assume that the music is something you composed? If so, another bravo! Simply amazing!

LOL, that fretboard was screaming for oil... something about that headstock that I love... maybe it's the diagonal string alignment. Nice Everlong version as well.

Look on KZbin for video of David Lindley playing this same Silvertone model with his band ElRayo-X at Reggae on the River. The song is "Quarter of a Man".

I would have to make something similar ton the String Butler that I have on my Les Paul for this guitar, the break angle of those strings most definitely will have tuning issues. It is most definitely an interesting guitar, I love the pickup covers and the materials it is made from, and the over engineered shielding is just awesome! It has a sound that is unique also, I would have loved to have seen the production line of this instrument!

Nothing magical. Just 99% Isopropyl Alcohol. There are a lot of fancy solvents out there used on antiquities. But I'm sure they are mostly just alcohol. Thanks for watching!

Alcohol. Which I don't recommend using on vintage instruments. It was too strong of a solution and impacted the finish. I now use the Dunlop cleaning solution (saline and soap) for vintage finishes.

Great Video! What did you use to clean the side walls? Alcohol? Hydrogen Peroxide? They came out so white and clean looking. I found one of these at a goodwill last week and I am trying to clean it up. So far I haven't been able to get those white side walls very clean. Thanks!

Yep....That body shape and the fun contours are begging for a headless version. How fun would that be? A modern amp case...We are in a sweet spot of micro digital processors. Same color only more modern with the gold flake...Yep...that would be sweet... First headless with lipstick pickups!

There's no way that piece of "shielding" was original. I mean if it was, then... Jeezless!
@MarkGutierrez Жыл бұрын
Oh it was original and it was the quietest guitar I've ever played. No outside interference. I'll make an assumption that the "thicker" the shielding the better. The microns of shielding paint on modern guitars can't be as good, right?
@vinylhead9938 Жыл бұрын
@@MarkGutierrez I have just double-checked it, and you're right, it's factory, I'm honestly baffled. I genuinely thought it was fabricobbled by a previous owner's in a "There, I fixed it!" style. Fascinating. I'm sure it does the job right, but I still cannot imagine someone at the factory sticking THIS into an istrument with a straight face. BTW, there's a screw in the neck at 20:20 under what seems an original paint. I assume it's factory too?
