Had a friend re-pick their starting deck several times. MOX was complicated, Energy is harder to grasp, Death can be difficult (Because it relies on, well, Death), and Beasts can also end up troubling as you don't get a seperate Squirrel Deck. She's currently stuck at Po3, because Po3 sucks. Fuck Po3

When you edit your deck, there is an auto-complete button that exists solely to attempt to build a deck that synergizes well with the cards you have. Of course you can switch some around, but it gives a basis of a good deck that works well. The game tends to lean more towards Beastly and Death cards when building the decks, but you can always slap in some magik cards as well. Just thought I'd say this incase by some mere chance you see it and use this to your advantage.

To be fair, it mostly leans towards blood/bones because their boss areas are available immediately, letting you get packs for them right away. The basic decks kind of suck, but especially so for Moxes who basica,ly MUST have better sources of gems :(

This is how I learned Gravedigger, cat, Ouroboros and necromancer were the best cards. I had 6 ouroboro in my hand, all with 100 atk and health all of a sudden because i didnt realise Ouro would reappear in my hand EVERYTIME it died, counting the necromancer's ability.

Dude yeah, it’s so overpowered. I had my stoat leveled up to 9-19 and a mantis lord that dealt 6 attack in three lanes which made the moon croak so fast 😂. You can also poison them with something like the adder that has the poison sigil. But you can make some nutty cards in act 1.

Well, I wouldn’t say it’s the “wrong class”, you can access a large amount of cards from all decks very easily so ur starting class doesn’t need to matter. No matter what deck u choose u can access beast cards that you’re familiar with very easily, and that’ll let u access the other decks

Lol if he had managed to win that one round he'd have gotten zero-cost six-health cards back. I think probably the biggest mistake with his builds is not going for the green mox gems exclusively. I know he wanted the blue ones for the draw 1 card mage, but going -1 in hand is just not worth it. That card is only decent in a blue gem exclusive deck. Interested to see where he can go from here.

The mage deck is literally the worst one to pick, yet it "sounds" the most exciting when you dont know what act 2 is... I did the exact same mistake, realized it was crap, and switched to the beast one instead. SOOO much easier lol

The mage deck works once you understand it. It's not one mage deck fits all. (I just finished Act 2 so it's fresh in my memory). For every of the four areas you build a different focus deck. Like for Leshy, who had a lot of attacking cards, I focused on blue mages because those cancel his damage and then I could bring in my Green Battery Mage and just kick his butt. Same for the other three. A bit of luck and good planning.

I did mage deck and it was definitely so much fun. That green card that you can juice up legit was the best thing I’ve used when I played the game. (I played blind and didn’t do an Ouro build). Once I built around it, I stomped anything in my path. Would do mage again, but definitely agree hard to understand at first, and some people will prob give up on it before understood.

Mage is rough to start with because you don’t have access to the mage tower to get more mage cards but once you get a good build up it’s just as good as the others and the technomages are great by the end of the fight I’d have two that we’re doing 4-6 damage each

The death lady is what Stinkbug changed into slowly, the stoat slowly turned to a robot looking dude, and the wolf probably degrades into the magic guy, that's why the talking wolf only had 1 eye, because the magic dude's other eye made it possible to see hidden writing that led to ultimately freeing the wolf Also, I've seen Mark pick up a fair amount of cards that would benefit from a Green Mox and Energy oriented hybrid deck

Oof. Magick is a rough start. I noticed in my playthrough it seemed to lack the oomph to be the centerpiece of a deck and would be more suited to supplementing one of the other Temples, and this seems to cement that. I guess the other three Temples get more spotlight because they're so much more prevalent in other parts of the game. Beastly especially, since Leshy's Cabin is entirely Beastly.

Yeah the decks are terribly imbalanced. The mage deck is bad, so is the bones deck. The bot deck is somewhat okay. The only deck that doesn't completely suck is the blood deck, the one you started with. Act 2 was definitely the low point for me.

It’s just a more defensive kind of deck. All of your mox are intended to be used as shields for lanes that cause problems while allowing you to infinitely summon mages. Mark is just using too many of the worst magic cards (the ones that die if there’s no mox) and that empties his side of the field when it otherwise might not.

It breaks the synergy of the other resources, and ultimately makes it feel disjointed from the rest of the play styles. And yes, giving the "Kill if you don't have mox" on the field are the worse for that reason alone. Why would I want a mox on the field with a Weak card, rather than sacrifice it for a stronger one? Except you can't sacrifice the mox, so it just takes up room on the board until you destroy it or it dies. And if the cards die with it, yeah, it wasn't a well though out mechanic imo.

If you have a double mox and only use two colors in yor deck you can pretty much play everything in your first turn, and having cards that can draw other cards (blue mage or master orlu) is a huge help

I honestly liked magic. I made a pretty solid pure magic deck that I used for the rest of that play through and it worked wonders and is the only one I decided to write down. As for synergy, always felt it worked best with technology though I'm not entirely sure why. Only real proof I have of this is that magic was the only secondary system used in the final act(though that might have been more to show it off more like undead was in the first act), and in the second act, stim mage is really good. As for undead, there's gourmand, but not much else. I mean undead already kinda works with all of them pretty well anyways but nothing in specific to connect them. Finally for beast, it works well because as long as you have at least one mox down, you can place down as many of that mox type as you want for free and can use them as sacrifices. And yeah, a lot of other synergies work a lot better it isn't as terrible as it seems. Actually, there are a few specific synergies that I can think of off the top of my head. Alpha wolf and hand mage work well as it literally entirely stops an enemy's attack then gets to attack back. Then grave digger and gourmand can make a pretty beefy card. The mages that can't live without a mox card can be played whenever for quick free bones. I haven't played the game in a bit so I don't remember much but if I got that just from memory and a bit of watching a play through then that must count for something in its favor.

Mark, here's a helpful tip, now that you have defeated a boss, the bridge is open. Go to the tower, get to the practice dummy, you can battle it as much as you want, it does you no harm. You can farm foil cards off of that, I've done it myself. Get the Ouroboros from the trader in Leshy's cabin, Beef that sucker up as much as you want using the practice dummy, you'll win every battle afterward so long as you draw it, I got mine up to 109 using said dummy, and one shot Leshy, the only boss you'll have difficulty with, well...I'll let you discover that. Just figured I'd let you in on that, I was excited the moment I found it out myself.

Fun tip: when you select auto complete while making your deck it normally sets up cards that work well with each other. Recommend doing an autocomplete everytime you get new cards...also oroboros will make your life easier.

The mox set is probably the most consistent set, but the problem is that it's incredibly synergy dependant and the starting deck is just pure garbage. You really need the magic masters to even use a mox deck. Mox's dependance on synergy also means it doesn't mix well with other sets, while the other three sets can make hybrid decks fairly easily. With a good mox deck, you basically can't ever brick. Some decks you brick on turn 1, reset a few times, play 2-3 turns, brick again, and reset some more. With a well made mox deck, that almost never happens.

No, mix set is easy to get going if you can figure out how to use it properly. Your crystals can shut lanes down whil allowing you to infinitely summon mages of their form of mox. Mark, the magic deck is underwhelming at first for sure, but once you get a little further into this section of the game you can get some REALLY useful magic cards. There are cards that provide 2 or 3 moxes at one time, as well as stronger mage cards and stuff. There are also one or two energy type cards that will provides moxes! Don't give up on the magic deck, but it is good to incorporate the other types of cards into your deck as well. ALSO: keeping the deck between 20-25 cards will keep it more consistent!

Fun fact: I don't think a single person went for the Scrybe of tech route. And also never seen somebody who chose something besides beasts and actually stuck to it. They immediately swapped to a beast deck.

I watched ProJared stick to solely Magic cards because he likes Magic The Garhering. Also yeah, Tech seems kinda lame in part 2. Might be intentional so people aren't burned out when they have to play a whole chapter of it?

I actually chose to overthrow PO3 without knowing anything on this game, but I realised you can have unlimited cards in the deck so I literally just did a combo of everything with about 40-ish cards in my deck to make a good balance even if I have a bad shuffle on hand.

Id honestly argue the beasts represent yugioh better in terms of play mechanics (a much simpler yugioh anyways) but ik the Magic section has a LOT of yugioh references. Ik in the fight against Magnificus if you look at the book of sigils theres an exodia reference among other things like the obvious duel disk

Pro tip: Necromancer basically makes it so that the monsters that die reactivate once again along with their death effects - including the bones they drop. At 3 bones, it is a little hard to get out, but very broken if paired with cards that activate on summoning or dying. Gravedigger is another excellent staple as it effectively lets you bring out skeletons that can be summoned for free and pay up their cost of 1 bone on perishing - or 2 with the Necromancer. Grimora is easily the best starter deck, especially since P03 and Magnificus can't be reached until beating either Leshy or Grimora first and, thus, you can't build up their decks or see how they are played until then. I just wished that they explained the battery and Mox mechanics a little better at the beginning. Oh, and pair up the two halves of the obols.

too bad I think you can't get that sigil in the first or third part of the game, though it would work well for oroboros (not that you'd need it in the second part anyways since pharaohs pets + hammer is infinite oroboros anyways. interestingly, if you use necromancer during leshy's fight, sacrificed creatures will die twice, so leshy will take its cost/stats/sigils even if you sacrifice a card (and theoretically maybe also do it twice if it is a card that dies, though I did not test that)
