It truly depends where your place of business may be. For example: may you tend to a McDonald's establishment, you would be more than correct. The McDonald's worker will likely be doomed to many last-minute calls for "mY SoN WaNtS a HaPpPy MeAl!!" Whilst if you were to tend to higher-end clothing line, it would be no diffrent to a middle-day shift, perhaps even lesser so. Granted this serenity would be interrupted by the occasional last-minute purchase, still lesser to McDonald's.

I worked at a Subway in a small town from ages 16 to 19, the owners and manager always made sure we had two closers and asked us to make sure each of us got to our cars safely after closing. Often the manager would visit around closing just to make double sure we were okay. I didn't realize how lucky we were to have people looking out for us as kids. It's horrible how common these kinds of crimes are.

Most of the restaurants I worked had a policy where you couldn’t take out the trash/leave out the back door at night for safety, we just put the garbage next to the front doors for morning shift to throw out, and I’ve never had to close alone at night they always had two closers one of them usually being a manager or at least a shift lead.

Honestly. I work as a barista and we had a customer who ordered her drink, we told her the price at the window, she kinda shrugged it off and then drove to the second window. Handed the drink out and she goes "$7 for this?" And basically just refused to take it or pay for it. It's sometimes frustrating because our company is not known for making inexpensive drinks in the slightest, but people still get mad at the baristas about it.

As strange/amusing as it is when Mark yells random threats such as "I'LL EAT YOUR SPLEEN!!", it's actually a pretty good survival tactic. If you can convince people around you that you're batshit crazy, 9 times out of 10 they'll leave you alone, even if they were interested in you before.
@KennithSimmons

This actually isn't true - statistics prove that mentally ill people are much more likely to be harassed, attacked, or killed compared to people who aren't mentally ill, and people assumed to be mentally ill / behavior associated with mental illness is often seen as threatening and criminalized (as many mentally ill people risk having the police called on them for visibly exhibiting symptoms). The rhetoric that "acting crazy" will get people you leave you alone is blatantly untrue if you look into actual studies into violence and mental health, and is based in bigoted stereotypes; in reality, it typically puts you in more danger to be perceived as mentally ill.

It's only "being a woman" if your only expectation of being a woman is to be stalked and killed by a creeper. Keep a gun on you and be prepared to slaughter any man or woman that attacks you. That is how my mother raised me. You can't punish the majority of men just because one might be a creep. It'd be the same as treating all women as trash because one was absolute trash. It's not right or fair to demonize one or the other for the faults of a few. You also must learn that the only person that can help you is yourself. That goes double in a fight. A man might attack you, or a woman might, and no one will bother trying to stop them. Most will just run away or look away. They won't put themselves into a situation where they are in danger. That means you have to know how to get away or kill your attacker. You cannot sit there and be wishy washy about "well, I shouldn't be expected to think or act this way for my own safety just because some guy is a predator." Because it doesn't matter. A predator is a predator whether you're prepared to fight or not. So you had best be ready to kill him for your own survival.

some men can get so lonely, any kindness shown from the opposite sex is amplified due to their high sensitivity from not having received any female attention. if they're mentally ill and obsessive it can turn them into threatening stalkers. *loneliness and mental illnesses go in hand.* not worth the risk at all, unfortunately you must learn the slight differences in your vocal tone and facial expressions. avoid eye contact, seem a bit aloof yet still attentive enough to receive orders without disrespect, etc. in other words, don't overly be welcoming to the man. imo all women should carry forms of self-defense, it boggles my mind how in some countries like the UK, a mere pepper spray is illegal.

This game is so terrifyingly accurate in capturing the feeling that so many women get at work, or even just going to their car. I switched to a mid shift at work and now that it gets dark by 4pm, I stay near a camera when I'm outside on my break, and I walk to my car with my keys between my fingers--Wolverine style. Where I work we get a lot of creepy guys, and due to multiple interactions with multiple of these types, I often find myself thinking of exit routes in the store. "How fast can I get to the break room? Will anyone be in there to help? What about the Manager's office, or the utility room? If I need to, I can hide behind these large boxes in this shelf..." The managers don't do anything about these customers, because a sale is a sale...

If owning and open or concealed carrying a gun is legal in your state, I highly recommend getting one. It's worst case scenario, but if something does happen then you'll have a much better chance of deterring someone from attacking, or stopping an active attacker. A taser is better if you aren't comfortable with guns or the idea of shooting someone, and *most* people will be incapacitated when they get tased. Pepper spray is also effective, although its less desirable since the attacker could be wearing goggles or a mask of some sort that would make pepper spray much less effective.

The barista element is a clever way to accentuate the fear. There's nothing _scary_ about it, but it's designed to require a lot of your attention, so your brain gets distracted with that and any horror elements thus stick out like a sore, uncanny thumb. Great design: give the player something to occupy their mind and give them a "normal" so that the weird stuff is weird _to the game itself,_ not just to what we'd expect from real life.

I absolutely loved the one section where the schoolgirls were talking in the background while the two fellows up front were talking about their order. It's rare to see thought given to a sort of red herring moment and also gives that scene a lot of life. We all have moments when we overhear something that we aren't necessarily supposed to be focused on, but focus on anyways. It was such a small but powerful way to reinforce the atmosphere and the threat of the stalker.

It's scary because being in a scenario like this CAN happen in real life. It's not like a horror game with a fictional monster in a scenario that wouldn't happen. Instead, it shows just how scary it is for employees when working at night shifts alone and how uneasy it feels to get customers late at night. A lot of people may not realize it, but stalkers are terrifying, and this game proves. They might not sound as terrifying as a monster, but they certainly are a monster at best.

One person appears to be “over concerned” about the situation and the other is “downplaying” the situation. So you don’t know where your opinion should lie. On top of trying to do your job. On top on trying to evaluate the situation- is the “creepy appearing” awkward man the stalker? Is it the guy who was hanging out in the background but then becomes super nice by buying someone else’s drink? Whoever made this game was a woman or got amazing women team members for feed back. This is really sad. Coming from Japan, it's even sadder. Women face such terrible injustice over there. Of course, it happens globally, but the sexism and harassment is so ingrained in the culture, it's difficult to live there safely. Even on the basis of food service, it's already incredibly dangerous and insensitive itself. This game says a lot with the measures you have to go to protect yourself. I'm also glad they touched on the stigma that just because you're "ugly" it means you're not in danger, wouldn't couldn't be any farther from the truth. Being a woman alone is dangerous enough. Unfortunately, not a lot of people will believe you, just like the arrogant senpai, they're take harassment as a '"compliment" and that if you're afraif of it, you "view yourself highly". These people speak for themselves as they'll never truly know how it’s like to be in this situation. Please protect yourselves, be extremely careful, this game is directly based off reality.

Spoilers: for people that didnt notice, there is actually two different "stalkers". the first stalker is the long tall guy with the creepy face, who we are introduced with at the beginning that we helped return his phone. we see him after we get off the bus, and also when he comes into the coffee shop once and doesnt buy anything and just sits the whole time and then leaves. the second stalker is the man in the hoodie. he is the one that creepily stands outside the store windows as we talk with the old man at the register. he also then comes in and orders pastries and a bunch of milk, and sits in the blind spot of the store and leaves the photo of us on the table. it is then revealed that HE is the one who has been living in the back of the store. so in conclusion to clear things up, the phone guy stalker, is the one that actually physically tries to attack us and depending on what ending you get, murders us; and the second stalker, hoodie dude, is the milk guy that was snapping pics of us and living in the store, but doesnt actually physically harm us. you can tell they are two different men bc 1. their faces are very different (hoodie guy is much younger looking and generally has a nicer looking face) 2. phone stalker guy and also the one that jumpsacres us at the closing sign (and eventually attacks us) is like 6'6" whereas hoodie milk guy is only around 5'6". you can tell the height difference by comparing when each walk into the cafe and walk past the bookcases by the door! 3. their clothes Anyways-just thought i'd share this since i dont think i've watched one lets player who actually came to this realization that there were two different stalkers!

The thing that makes this feel like a horror game are how easily the game strips you of comfort. I always check the back of my car before I get in, I don't walk around after dark unless at least two people know where I'm at, and I make sure all the doors I can lock are locked. I've worked terrible fast food jobs where I've been harassed by coworkers, and I've been yelled at by a customer until my manager had to get involved. That's the reality of working night shift as a woman in a customer service job. That's why this game is so disarming; the danger compounds with the high-pressure environment and uncomfortable situations. You can't just quit. You can't just run away. You're forced to work alone, unprotected, while people stare creepily at you from across the lobby. You can't always take safety precautions if you want to keep your job.
@reydragonclaw1128
@reydragonclaw1128 2 жыл бұрын
goddamn... job first, safety later?? That sucks. People need to get priorities straight and protect their staff, this should be illegal. Can't they provide you with some sort of weapon for self-defense? Or just not have people do solo closing-shifts? Honestly, regardless of gender, nobody should solo close-shift for danger reasons and accountability reasons, it's honestly just so bullshit what people have to go through to keep their job and get paid. I'm so sorry. All we can do is tough it out and fight for our safety it used to be (and someplaces still is) women's rights now ig it's women's safety! jeez

This is what and why I tell other people or ladies the advice I try to give when I can. Never give up or let someone take your feeling of safety away. There are always options or opportunities you can do or take to prevent these situations. If people give up too soon, then that dreadful thing will happen. I've been there and I know what it's like but I told myself never again. I got a different job if the one I had wasn't working, I took safety precautions, I got protection either by weapon or by people, and I put myself in the mindset even though the world is more dangerous for someone like me. I wouldn't let that stop me from living a normal life and not in fear. Even when I've had a few scary moments. I put on my determine, crazy aura that you better leve me be or one of us is dying today and it ain't gonna be me! That right there works everytime if nothing else because you are letting the person know you don't fear them. Even if something happens, you won't let them take that fight out of you! This is my advice and advice everyone should give no matter what! There are always options, never let anyone or anything make you feel otherwise.

the best part about this game, are the irl effects of it. watching people like mark and dantdm play this game, feeling completely normal at the start- then starting to get progressively more paranoid. they start questioning themselves irl, and become more alert in the game. its crazy how a game can have such a prominent psychological effect in real life.

Nah that's just a poor excuse for an unpolished product. If anything the game becomes comical with they way all the characters look and move. It's much better for a horror game to get progressively unsettling as things actually start to get weird, instead of everything being buggy and everyone giving the sense of the uncanny valley, even if there isn't supposed to be anything off with them.

It could be just me but if any other girlies want to be forewarned, this game is about a girl being stalked, Mark gets the girl caught at this point, she is attacked, and the noises from the attack are just awful. @@wisp8944 from warnings I’ve had is that when you are walking up to unlock your car they would be on the other side. So if you have a keyfob you have to be careful when you unlock your car so they don’t open the back door and slip in without you noticing. That’s why I prefer the lock system on newer cars because you don’t have to get the key fob out, you push the button but it only works on the drivers side door first, then you press it a second time for all the locks.

I was the last to leave work, the one I had at eighteen. It was just past one AM, and as I sat in my car, I got a text from someone I only knew vaguely from my high school circle a couple years before, basically asking how work was and we should hang out now that I'm not busy. I spun my head like an owl and didn't see anyone or any cars, the town was small and we had been one of the very last places to close in the whole county for the night, it was just silent out. I still had to stop and feed horses before I went in my house that night, very rural, no one would hear or see anything. So before I drove off I texted a couple people my concerns and that I was heading home, I'd tell them when I was there. And then at the barn I kept one on the phone the whole time, grateful and apologetic he stayed awake that late to do that for me, and then rushed into my house to double lock the doors and check the curtains were shut. I blocked the number but told my manager I wouldn't stay that late again, and got a different job and number soon after.

Just recently when I was still in high school this guy from another class had apparently been stalking me for two years. He knew I have a dog that I take out on walks, he knew I have an elder brother who took my dog in the evenings, and he knew I didn’t come out much in the evenings. That was something not even close friends knew as some sort of fact. Only probably one or two people apart from my family knew about me not wanting to be out in the evenings for any reason or the other. And I live in a pretty guarded area. So this guy one day waited for me outside for like 2 hours in the afternoon on a very hot day- easily above 40°C, while I was at my friend’s house and waited till I was alone to approach me. I’d seen him loitering around when we were going to her house and also to mine to get my dog. We were concerned about the guy when we had seen him and were even considering to approach him to ask whether he was okay. Not only that, I had a feeling we were being watched, and lo and behold that guy was a bit away from us with his phone pointed to our, and when I pointed him out to my friends he acted as if he were taking a video of the scenery around. Anyways, he approaches me and introduces himself as a friend of a friend saying that he had told him about me and he’d been wanted to talk to me for a while now. Then he tells me how I don’t get out in the evenings, and that he’d waited 7 hours on another occasion to meet me. Then he proudly tells me how he had seen me 2 years ago, describing my outfit and that my dog had barked at him, “probably because he didn’t like the way I was looking at his owner”. There was no one around, and I was tired and just wanted to go home, not to mention how hot it was. I couldn’t have run away or fought him, I didn’t know what his intentions were, and my dog is rather big and he was too tired so I couldn’t run with him in that state too. So i asked for his Instagram and got hold of his name, but then I noticed this guy had liked a couple posts of mine a few days ago. It was really creepy. I’m okay now, thankfully I told my brother and he took care of everything, although I’m afraid we didn’t report him to the school authorities, thanks to certain prior experiences we’ve had with them to know they won’t do anything and blame me instead. My parents also got me some pepper spray because this was just too much, and I wasn’t to leave the house without a friend. God only knows what all he knew about me and what he could do next. I’m glad to say that quite a bit of time has passed since then and I’m completely safe :)

I don't think i have the courage to play this game as even just watching someone's gameplay already brings back some bad memories back in highschool where a creepy guy follows me in our subdivision everytime i walk back home after a dance practice with my classmates. One time i was with my bestfriend (also my neighbor and classmate), and the guy appeared. He was smiling, he raised and held an ipad with both hands. Seemingly recording us. He walked behind us, me and my bsf speedwalked, he hastens his pace too. I had to lock my arms with my bsf despite us mutually cringing at physical touches like those, but he allowed me to. I was losing my shit as we walked in the quiet neighborhood, my body was breaking in cold sweat, i unconsciously nibbled at my tumbler's handle. Luckily after, we went for a run after checking our phone's reflection to see if he stopped walking. We took multiple turns and laughed it off but we both still felt the intense feeling of danger. I later found out that one of my classmates had the same problem and encountered the same creepy man in my neighborhood. It's scary. I don't even walk in that part of our subdivision anymore in fear that i might see him again. I don't want to report him cause he might just be doing something uncontrollable or something (maybe mentally sick).

Even as a dude, I've dealt with the weird people coming in mostly naked or on drugs or both, or the people who just say what they want with no other words and then they just STARE at everything you do while you make their shit. The people who come in and are overly friendly and willing to share about their day and life when you have social anxiety/ don't want to talk/ are just trying to do your job. People talking and talking and talking while they should be ordering and holding everything up by not having their orders ready/ money figured out, and of course, actually robbery. Now we can get into the fact that the company I was at for 7 years (left as a manager) I saw more times than I could count, super creepy interactions that girls I worked with had to go through generally because the manager is the one dealing with this shit on shift I did personally, the guy in this game didn't gaf which would be shitty. in 2 extreme cases they literally were stalked at work and, one culminated in her beating the dudes ass because he followed her home, and the other one the police were called and a restraining order was filed because the guy refused to leave the store so she could safely walk to her car. I would say the reason this game is scary is that fact that this IS real life. This game is the reality of things

as a barista i’ve been subject to men being hella inappropriate, making me feel uncomfortable and even sexually harassing me at one point. while i’m like…sir, it’s in my job description to be nice.

As someone who has both been a barista, and had a super creepy stalker, this is so accurate. There was something oddly comforting about seeing Mark reacting the same way as I have to these things in real life. From checking the back seat of the car, to being afraid to leave work, or even take out the trash, and looking for some kind of weapon. I really appreciated it, even as I squirmed uncontrollably with discomfort while watching it.

A Glock 17 would’ve fixed the entire problem though. Stay strapped stay safe. Guns are equalizers specifically because a 5’4” rail thin woman can still defend herself against a 6’3” 250 pound block of muscle. Most of the time, cops can’t help with stalkers when they try to, because they don’t have Star Trek transporters yet, and in this game the cops aren’t even trying. Life is a struggle, this world is unsafe, and there are plenty of evil people in it. Your defense is, unfortunately your responsibility if only because only you can actually control it. Fortunately, ever since colt invented the 1911, you have nearly complete control over your safety.

@@feartheghus I don't disagree. I'm from Arizona, and have known how to handle guns since I was about 11. I always have a 9mm locked away in my car when driving for work, but I also have two young kids, so I have to walk the safety line very carefully. They haven't handled guns yet, but my husband and I have been teaching them gun safety with their toy weapons (bows and arrows and pretend star wars blasters) since they could talk. We have both our daughters enrolled in Kung Fu as well, and I've learned a number of self defence tactics from my uncle, who's a marine vet. People are crazy. I agree, it's best to be prepared, so long as you do it safely and intelligently.

I have to agree Mark. The response to "I'm being stalked" is NOT incredulous and rude remarks. That Senpai was probably only saved by the fact that Japanese society tends to be pressured towards behaving, not making a scene. That said, this person's attitude would've still gotten them beaten up in school.

In my experience people like these save their bullying and shitty authoritative attitudes for when they reach positions of power.

That's one thing I can't stand about modern Japanese society, the way people in situations like this, especially women and girls, are expected to shut up and take it and not bother anyone else with their problems, sometimes even including the police. It's worst for girls and women who get groped on crowded trains--a girl it happens to usually expected to just let it happen, and if she cries out for help and "makes a scene", as their society likes to put it, all she'll typically get is disapproving stares from the other passengers, as if being silently told to stop bothering everyone. And then if she reports it to the police, they'll all too often dismiss it because, get this, *it's too embarrassing a matter for them to deal with.* And this is in spite of such molestation literally being addressed as a CRIME on signs at train stations in major cities!
