This game is actually based off of the Japanese urban legend Aka Manto, and the tall person in the red cloak is meant to Aka Manto. He basically haunts bathrooms and will ask you for blue or red paper. There are a lot of variations, but choosing blue can get you strangled and choosing red can get you stabbed. If you ask for a different paper, he drags you into the underworld. The only ways to escape are by ignoring him, running away, or saying you don't want paper.

If you are using a public toilet, _Aka Manto_ may come to you and ask if you would prefer red paper or blue paper. Choose red, and you receive a bloody death. Choose blue and you receive a death that removes all of your blood or suffocates you. Choose another color and _Aka Manto_ gets... creative. The only safe response is not to answer, or to state that you have no preference, and/or to run away as fast as you can. _Ofuda_ : This is a slip of blessed paper, imbued with the power of the local temple's deity. This one looks to be a _shinsatsu_ , meaning it needs to be placed at the local shrine's altar. In this game, the shrine also has a sword, which can be used against _Aka Manto_ . But you need all the colored papers to get it. Speaking of which, the Well has the Blue Paper, so you'll need to find that coin. The Anatomy Model holds the key to escaping the school. The pieces are the Nose, the Ribcage (both of which you found), the Eyes (near the Pool), the Brain (exit the girl's bathroom and go R-L-R), the Left Arm (from the last room, go L-L-R), the Right Arm (in the Library) and the Organ (also in the Library, but you need to find the three red books to get it). The other two requirements to escaping the school are a koppe pan (roll from the lunch room) and some milk. You'll see why when you get to the roof.

mark choked so hard like he does in a lot of games like that, instead of waiting silently in the corner like hes done many of times to avoid mole man hes just running into the door trying to will it open faster and dies oh and he stalled before he went for the exit giving the mole man more time to reach him.... its just funny i think its the worst in dangle dongle farm where he says "if i get to the end and die im done" and what does he do? opens the exit and the runs for the tractor thinking its the truck ( the truck which he had the keys for and was in the garage he unlocked aswell) then after wasting all that time instead of hiding he runs for the exit and dies thus not trying again. its like he willed it into existence, self-fulfilling prophecy, throwing for content but like the opposite. Its frustrating to see Mark do this to himself and then never learning from it he just throws in the towel, blames the game and moves on to the next. Mark is so smart but refuses to think....i can respect that. mark is observant enough to tell when a game stutter is loading but not to see the difference between a truck and a tractor. my man is an oxymoron

as someone who has played this game it is great to see mark play it -the floating mask if it spots you alerts the monster -the monster can spot you if it does run and hide -the monster is dumb and lockers are your friend because of it -monster can't go in the vents -the red glowing things on the walls are used by the monster to get to one place to another fast when the floating mask spots you -the bug spray is useless don't use it it really isn't that good

This is an actually fairly scary game, but also incredibly difficult to beat. A lot of the later parts of the game are cryptic and would need a guide to reasonably beat, not to mention you can’t even save the game at any point (no checkpoints either). I would like to see Mark play more of this, but I hope he doesn’t burn out all his interest for this game through frustration or confusion. Edit: I'm fully aware that other youtubers have beaten this game (CoryxKenshin and Berleezy namely), but it wasn't easy for them either. If I'm remembering correctly they both also had to use guides or the help of others to beat it. This comment is more of a warning of what's to come in case Mark decides to play it again.

Since Mark didn't know when he was saying it at the beginning I paused it just to type this, and also for people who would like to know Aka Manto is also known as Red Cape, it is a yokai from a Japanese urban legend. They mostly appear in public bathrooms to ask the person if they prefer "red paper or blue paper". Depending on which the person says is how said person will die. "Red paper" the person will be struck with blunt force trauma over and over and completely covered in their own blood, hence "red". "Blue paper" the person will be strangled to death, hence "blue". If you ask for any other color he will take you hell. The only way to live is literally just ignoring the yokai, or running away. I do not know if they made "yellow paper" an option in game, but if you choose yellow he will shove your head in the toliet. The story can be told with different changes but always the same outcome. Finally my love of Asian urban legends comes in handy!

I haven't seen Mark scared enough to actually have Alt-F4 as a consideration in his mind for a long time. Whatever this game is doing, it is hitting all of the right notes to create a horrifying experience and I applaud it. I am amazed that the creator was able to make a monster that instilled real dread into Mark whenever he knew it could be around. Bravo to them, and bravo to Mark for powering through for as long as he did. I would be very down for more of this.

It's most likely more a reference to the author than it is to Asagiri's series haha. Oh and bonus fact: Bunsto Atsushi is the most popular rendition of the writer, but he's not the only one. There are also versions of Atsushi in the Love Heaven game, Bungo to Alchemist version, and another Atsushi from a game I forget the name of, but I do remember that version of him is a rather creepy stalker of the Akutagawa Ryunosuke in that game. I think there may also be a Bungo Shikkaku version, but it's been years since I heard the drama series.

As interesting as this game looks, getting caught out in a dead end while exploring only to lose an hour of gameplay doesn't seem all that fun.

There was another hunt-and-collect horror game Mark played, based off a creepypasta (The Hat Man I think) that was long and had no checkpoints. He went from enjoying it and getting spooked, to being sarcastic and not caring when the ghost appeared. At a certain point, a challenge won't be enjoyed even if completed. Getting through without saves should be an achievement, not be the difference between finishing a game or not.

The game is difficult, it's designed to have you running around with items (small inventory and lots of items that are used on the other side of the map). There are 7 pieces of paper and 7 anatomy items; either set leads to an ending, but finding the full set is difficult enough for someone who doesn't know the map. Aka Manto does love spawning near you as well, making the achievement for completing it without getting hit once very fun.

There's something so unsettling about that distortion effect. I mean, the sound design, atmosphere, and enemy design are all on point, but the warping in your peripherals, especially with all that wood/straight lines...Very effective design choice.

I think the warping you see is a render effect. When games back then couldn't process many graphics, they render the ones you don't see. This game probably did this so it gives it a more older feel. Pretty cool!

The whole concept of Aka Manto always messed with me since that things catches you off guad when you feel the most vulnerable, in an already claustrophobic place - the toilet.
