The "it'll make him understand consequences better" is also weird. Like in a way I get it. Removing something valuable/cherished can help with perspective, but in this case, to me at least, it feels more like a "you did something wrong to your step siblings, therefor I'm removing your bio mom from you", since the items have an emotional connection. As to the "watching someone elses kids", I mean... they are supposed to be a family. Yes you can't force a sibling relationship. However, the real question is i whether Jamie was actually asked or not. Being told to watch them is different and frankly wrong. Besides at those ages (9 and 12/13) they can pretty much entertain themselves (maybe ask for help with getting something, which isn't a big ask). But the bottom line is still the "was Jamie asked or told", and if he was asked, a no should be respected.

Story 1: The fact her parents wouldn't call back just to tell you that she was Ok, means she told them something which made OP to be the bad guy and end the relationship. I'd say fiance wanted out and likely because another man was involved. Even if she was crazy, that still doesn't explain why her parents blocked OP. However, at this point it doesn't matter. Get a lawyer and sue for any wedding costs you are out, plus the value of the engagement ring (don't sue for the ring back, although you might accept it). Ask any mutual friends or have someone check her social media and see how quickly she is dating someone else. That will give you your answer... not that it means much.

Idk I have ADHD and struggle with RSD really badly, but this sounds incredibly extreme for that. Also doesn’t explain why her family blocked OP as well.
@tiryaclearsong4212 жыл бұрын
I also have ADHD and pretty bad anxiety which makes things like RSD worse. I would probably cry and want to leave. I would probably want to not talk to anyone that night. Maybe the next day or two I'd still be feeling embarrassed and not want to deal with it. But... this is far. It could have started out as something simple like emotional dysregulation or rejection sensitive dysphoria, but it seems like she's developed greater issues now. She is blowing up her whole life because she is embarrassed. This is extreme for just ADHD. Don't get me wrong. ADHD is a serious and often misunderstood disorder. But usually people with ADHD don't typically blow up their life in one day. It's like the slow corrosive force of water on rocks with the constant lateness, forgetfulness, distraction, impulsiveness, emotional dysregulation, and everything else that chips away at every facet of the person's life until they're 7 feet past rock bottom wondering why they can't just get it together. This does seem really impulsive, but a lot of disorders have impulsiveness as a symptom and some of them can be more immediately severe in presentation like mania from bipolar disorder. Many personality disorders also come with impulsiveness and extreme emotional reactions as key symptoms.

5:14 that was exactly what I thought. She could be trying to get out of the wedding/ postpone it or maybe someone was at the party that she doesn’t want at the wedding but OP wants them there?

Story 2: My question is why did he not question his wife when she said "he would get the stuff back once his punishment was over" only to turn around and give all the stuff away? Doing that, she not just lied to his son, but lied to him. It seems that she is trying to push the memory of his late wife out of the house and he was blind to her doing that and unfortunately, the biggest memory of his late wife? Their son. Whom by doing this and him siding with his wife, or at least not questioning her or anything, has helped her to push that last memory out of his house and he is realizing that and is trying to not to blame himself, thus OP is the one to take the fall. Though granted, OP could have helped him try to get the stuff back regardless, so could have handled things better, but other than that, OP is not the AH. P.S. I typed all of that out before hearing the update which sadly only seemed to confirm in my mind what the stepmom was doing.

Story 2: I love how the step mother and the father wanted to teach Jaime a lesson about consequences, but ended up learning it themselves. The father lost his wife and step daughters, the step wife lost her husband and a father figure for his daughters and her family also feels disgusted with her. It is also unclear if the father will ever be able to have some semblance of a relationship with his son, given the fact that he didn't see all the abuse.

Story 2: I'm intensely curious about what things the 13 year old girl said to OP's nephew.
@katharineeavan97057 ай бұрын
Same. Partially because if the apparently evil things she was doing and saying to him were as creepy as seems implied, there's a strong chance she's repeating behaviour someone used on her and may need CPS involved to keep her safe and keep others safe from her. It could well be not the kind of thing that comes to mind with the way OP wrote about it, and it could also well be that there's just something messed up about her that doesn't come from being directly abused herself, but I'd still have concerns

Handstand fiancee reminds me of my former roommate. One day he snapped over something small, friend A made a joke about his own math error, and decided he needed to leave an walk through a part of town where someone had been stabbed the previous week. Friend A and B tried to stop him, which lead to him feeling emasculated. When they got back, he tried to kick friend B (also our roommate) out and told him to end himself. This resulted in us moving out as soon as we could. It wasn't just the math joke or the trying to stop him. It was a build up, and he was mentally ill yet refusing treatment. I feel bad for the op, but we never know what straw will break the camel's back.

O I would go full on war against ANYONE if they destroyed or broke the things my grandfather left me. He was a old timer who believed that if he needed something then he had to make it. Including building his own home(grandma had to sale that after grandpa passed). He practically raised me with my grandma. The dad and wife and niece in the story that took the dead mom's stuff deserve everything coming their way. You don't destroy or take things like that! And you definitely don't give it away.

S1) She went behind your back to cancel everything with the wedding. She decided to quit your relationship. She wasn't willing to communicate her feelings and problems like an adult should. She's not marriage material. Be glad your seeing this before being married to her and having children. She has a lot of growing up to do before she can commit to adult relationships and that's not on you. Call the relationship over, get your ring back and count your blessings. That update says she had a lot more going on behind yours and her friends backs. Something she wasn't telling any of you. I say just keep it going to court, get back what you can and count your blessings she's out of your life cause she couldn't talk to you about the issue before hand she wasn't ready to be married. I hope she realizes she not only lost you but if I were blocked just for showing concern like a good person should that I'd take it as her showing she could care less of me as a friend and follow you as you take your exit out of her life. S2) As soon as I heard things that belonged to his mom were taken from him I'd ask to hold onto what I could for him. These items were your nephews inherited from his mom. Step mom and her goblin crew have no say over who gets what. Your brother is the worse in this instance because he's bending to his son being abused, having his mom's items stolen by the goblin crew as well as having that theft being enabled. Honestly I'd help the nehphew file for the items being stolen and destroyed in a malicious content clause. Have step goblin crew and the enabling circus all facing criminal charges as well as the jerk faced dad. I still think having those goblins charged will be a wonderful gift to give to them and that lack luster donor of his. Therapy would help wonders for your nephew as it sounds like that's in order. Also try and seek any form of support you can from that weak willed ninny head. He needs to be bled dry along with his goblin crew. OP don't be upset that you didn't step in sooner. Be proud that you stepped up when he needed someone the most and was looking for help.

I always feel guilty when hearing in these stories that a relative got to move in after family problems. As much as I would like to help friends and relatives in need, I quite physically couldn't do it with my shoebox of an apartment and have to refuse, even though it pains me. (I maybe could fit a slim single person air mattress right by the front door if I removed the shoe rack, but that would be drafty and very uncomfortable.) I applaud all the people who take in relatives and friends in need, you're awesome!
