Family members of police officers are at least 4x more likely to be the victim of domestic violence (at their hands) than the general population, and as much as 10x by some expert accounts. Police are so notorious for abuse, inaction, non-reporting, mishandling and leaks, that battered women shelters and domestic violence non-profits can't depend on them for security as they are likely to protect their own and minimize the behavior of abusers. What I think is going on: 1) OP identifies as queer, but she's a woman and her partner is a man. So either she's a trans woman (which is possible, but I don't think is correct), or she's bi (this is my best guess for her queerness). I'm reviewing this fact because I think it's the pivot point of the whole story from the villains' side of things. 2) OP's father and brother do not accept her queerness. Until one day, brother introduces her to his friend and they hit it off. OP may claim to be queer, but in their mind, she's not really if she's dating a man. And so her relationships with her family start to improve. They've "corrected" her. 3) Because Mike (the BF) being with OP is not about being mutually in love, but is about him correcting a bi woman, he's lied about a few things here and there that he was coached to say by the brother to get into her good graces. One of them is that he does not like dogs. 4) Dog ran away/ran out in the past, if I understand OP's post. And whether or not Mike kicked her out or just let her out and didn't pay attention to her, the dog got away, and Mike saw an opportunity to get rid of the dog he didn't like. 5) Mike lied to the neighbor when she came to the door. But the neighbor was very responsible and took the dog to the vet, where the microchip was discovered. Neighbor returns the dog, and neighbor is a good person, or maybe she has experience with abusers, and she knows something is not right because Mike didn't claim the dog when she came by. So she warns OP that something's up. 6) The whole story ensues because Mike F-ed up and let his mask drop too soon, before they were married and he had more control of OP. And ultimately, this is a story of "corrective r-pe" done in a less direct way. And just to be clear, even if it was enthusiastic consent at the time, it is still the R-Word if you're lying about who you are, and Mike has been lying this whole time. ETA: Oh, yes. And the dog wasn't with Mike for the proposed dinner at the end because it was a hostage to OP's good (straight, submissive woman) behavior. Possibly he only wanted his fantasy fulfilled. Possibly he was going to force her to marry him. Precise intention unknown, but it wasn't good.

I wouldn't be surprised if this was right on the money, especially because of all the claims of OP being mentally unstable. There are waaaay too many people who think any queer person has issues simply because they're queer. I'm glad OP had her friend and her lawyer to help her.
@sternenblumenАй бұрын
@@jenniferhanses She could also be pansexual or asexual (the latter does not preclude relationships) or simply identify as queer, that's also possible. Not that the brother and presumably also the father would be able to grasp any of that beyond "she's one of those gays now", I guess.
@sovereigncruxАй бұрын
I was really confused by the queerness and pride involvement when she identified herself as cis female and was involved with a man (from point of birth she was groomed to be a clone of her mother). If her father and brother are homophobes, they never would have raised another son as a replacement for their mother, and there is zero reference of being trans. Like you, bisexuality was the only conclusion I could draw where 'queerness' is part of the equation, but OP never alludes to this, either. It's not my business ultimately, but as a reader it really confuses when someone puts so much emphasis on a fact about themselves and then abandons it for the rest of the story, and also has a partner they are possibly considering marriage to who is not queer like them... I am hoping this is AI due to the inconsistency, and not actuality because that is such a devastating trauma to live through, and it sounds like OP is trying to survive a lifetime of trauma from her brother and father already.

The title was, "Am I the AH for not trusting my boyfriend after he lied to me?" No. Next question. Op's brother siding with bf and going "Why couldn't you just shut up and celebrate his birthday" really seems to be failing at grasping the fact that Op could've done so _had boyfriend not deliberately prevented Op from getting her dog back._ He knew she was upset about the dog being missing, knew she couldn't focus as a result, had the opportunity to fix it, and _actively refused._

If anyone tried to treat my cats like that they would be finding out the hard way what my dad means when he says, " you can't prove murder without the body". Honestly, he took the ring cam as an attempt to intimidate op and an attempt to remove any evidence of his actions and threats. I also feel like he's trying to take op's dog to punish op for not going along with their psycho intervention and kicking him out. Why am I not surprised that her psycho family is desperate to keep their narrative/delusions that op is mentally unstable. Plus trying so hard to punish op for refusing their psycho intervention and so on. Yeah if it was bad enough to get an immediate restraining order then psycho brother apparently made a BUNCH of insane threats to op and her dog and showed how insane he is. Typical that sperm donor lost his mind over the restraining order because now he can't abuse the kid he blames for his wife's death. Of course the abusive ex is trying to lie and manipulate the cops about what actually happened. Watch him get upset that it won't work because of all the evidence.
