I didn't get past the first sentence before I blocked him on everything, and sent a text to my bf about it, letting him know drunk text was sent, and former coworker blocked. I recently moved to the other side of the country, so zero chance of running into him. I also checked with my bf the next day, to see how he was feeling about it, and he is fine, and not worried. The fact that she stole OPs meds makes me wonder if there's some kleptomania going on. Antidepressants aren't really in high demand on the black market because they don't get you high, so I doubt she stole them for herself or to make money. I suppose she could have stolen them just to hurt OP but I try to give people the benefit of the doubt when possible, and sadly, kleptomania is the less damning option here.

Story 1: thoughts on the update. So a few days ago, Mark did a story from his subreddit about a lady and her boyfriend who called out "sick" but was lying. What I said there goes double for this story... When OP confronted her, what was her first reaction? Shebplayed the "poor me, pity party" card. Thisbisnwhere someome who has done something wrong will do and say whatever she could to stop OP's righteous anger. So when she Said "Oh I'm such a horrible person" she wanted OP to stop being mad at her and to start comforting/sympathizing with her. And that's EXACTLY what happened. This is a shitty manipulation tool some people use to get out of trouble. The roommate is no different
@brianaschmidt910
@brianaschmidt910 2 жыл бұрын
Ok... But I just want to point out that sometimes it's not manipulation on their part, but rather something their brain repeats ad nauseam (over and over again) source: my brain calls me a pathetic loser everytime I mess up. And questions wether or not I'm meant to be alive at all if all I'm gonna do is mess up. (I've struggled with suicidal thoughts for most of the almost 3decades I've been alive. And it's taken forever and a bunch of training for me to finally stop telling myself that I should kill myself.) But those thoughts do crop up as well, it's like my brain loves to abuse me by keeping me down with little innocuous statements and pretty soon I'm agreeing with everything negative said about me. It gets defensive when it's behavior is called into question. 0.o I just realized that I'm technically in an abusive relationship with myself. How do I escape from self abuse?

Also, this may be a small thing but it changed a lot for me: try creating some daily affirmations. Something simple like "I am a good person. I am worth knowing. I deserve the things I work for". Write them down, post em on a wall on a mirror, somewhere you can see them regularly. Say them to yourself (out loud if you can) every day. I LITERALLY HAD THIS EXACT SAME PROBLEM WITH A FRIEND OF MY BOYFRIEND! Okay so this chick lived across the hall from my bf in uni and lived with some of my good friends from high school. We got along well at first but I started noticing weird stuff. She always had to walk next to him or sit next to him when we went out as a group. When bf and I would hangout in my room (a single) to snuggle and such he’d open his phone so we could watch tv together and he’d have like 40 messages from her on different platforms. I told him it made me uncomfortable and he said she was just super ADHD and he had absolutely 0 interest in her. My friends themselves also started telling me to be careful because she was talking to/ about him all the time and only cared to go out with them when he’d be there. My final straws however were when she asked what his favorite hairstyle on girls where to which he said “I love when my girlfriend wears space buns” with pictures of me to which she sent him pictures of herself with the same hairstyle AND when the group was racing up the stairs of their dorm later he cut his arm on an untrimmed stair rail and she literally started crying and insisted on “patching him up” herself. After this he agreed it was weird and that even his friends thought so. Well after a week of not answering texting, and not going to group settings she’d be in she came to his room in the middle of the night, a shared dorm mind you, and tearfully confessed her feelings for him and said I treated him badly and he deserved better and that she loved him. He said “are you fucking crazy? Never speak to me again” and she went ballistic and started screaming and crying that he was manipulative and a horrible person to the point that and RA came out as well as other sleeping students. she move into a different dorm building a week later. And we haven’t seen or heard from her since. Shit was crazy.

What a desperate and trash person, intruding herself into your relationship and professing love to someone she doesn't even really know, your boyfriend who has shown no interest in her but is for now stuck there. She needs to know your boyfriend immediately told you and that her attention is unwanted by and she is to stop touching him. He should be the one to state this. It is already uncomfortable there, and could get much worse. After update: I'm glad it came out in the open. It's good you talked to her, and called her mother so she got taken away. He has the ability to tell her to keep her hands off if it was unwelcome. Instead, he hasn't set any boundaries for her. He even gave her the impression he agreed with keeping it secret. Question why he is not making it clear to her he isn't interested in her single or taken. Not setting those boundaries is giving her his consent. He has never said no. He's not moving away, not removing himself from easy access. He waited for events OP might see and question before telling her, so kept the secret until he might get caught out. Why was the only time he told her to stop when OP was right in the next room to catch them? Why nothing more until he knew she was watching? It feels odd that he made zero effort unless it was going to be in front of OP where it could cause him to lose his home. Every step to de-escalate the situation was ignored. "I thought she was joking" was bs. The way she says he described the conversation says he believed it the entire time to be serious. So there's something else going on OP ignored just like the feeling guilty for saying anything instead of allowing it to continue. Seems like OP is easily manipulated into falling for whatever bs she is told, and the situation sounds like boyfriend was playing a bit of both sides until roommate couldn't keep it hidden.

Just stop with trying to make everything into a syndrome or disorder. Sometimes people are just spoiled, entitled pieces of sh*t. Take pictures of the stolen items, as you found them. Call her at her mom's place, and let her know if she doesn't move out immediately, and return everything she has taken, you will go to the police with the evidence of her theft. She is just a spoiled little princess who never got told NO, so she thinks she is allowed to take anything she wants. Time to give her a taste of consequences for her actions.

Stop pretending that you understand the baseline of psychological insight. A person who is unable/unwilling to maintain the baseline of social norms is on the spectrum of some kind of social/psychological disorder. But, your language and name hurling in lieu of knowledge of what hyper-mania looks like (ie THIS) tells us everything we need to know, especially if there's an existing diagnosis. She needs treatment for self destructive behaviour, and a new place to live. You need an education, perspective and a knock down a few rungs.

I do agree, all too often Reddit uses terms like “narcissist” to mean “shitty person,” which is inaccurate, stigmatizing, and unhelpful. I do like that there is further empathy for where people are coming from with their actions, but really it’s not your job to diagnose or treat somebody. Labeling them, accurate or not, doesn’t change their actions; the only way forward is to create boundaries and barriers for your own health. Their health and behavior is their own problem.

Omg your flatmate is disgusting get her in-line or get her out. Confront her as in that action he's displaying loyalty and setting the boundary off limits. If she touches your boyfriend again slap her hand away. Op get your stuff back. There's nothing wrong she's full of it as she shut up when her mum turned up.

Previous housemate didn't notice anything weird but the mom acted as if this wasn't anything new *and* OP found some of her *medication* in the housemate's room. OP better check if any more of her medication is missing than that one sheet, I'm betting the housemate's a druggy. Still, maybe it's me, but having a mental illness *is* being crazy by definition. I've got a laundry list of mental health problems as does my dad. We both freely admit that we're crazy "and have the medication to prove it."

😂 I am a diagnosed "maniac" and I never try to touch other people 😂 WTF?! That girl needs therapy because she obviously has some issues with male relationships and probably with intimacy if she thinks she fell in love with a person she doesn't even know. And she is a liar and a kleptomaniac? Yeah, hell no 😂

It is very hard for me to empathize with someone who sexually harasses anybody. Illness or not. The thing is though, with mental illnesses that make you very impulse heavy, there's always at least one thought before you do the action where you think yourself if you should do it. I'm not going to say anything else cuz I don't want people to go down my throat but you can read between the lines to what I'm implying here

If the gender roles were reversed, this would be beyond not okay. Never wait for a loved one to be sexually harassed because you wanna "keep the peace". seriously, fuck that noise I am very sympathetic with mentally struggling people and I am also mentally struggling but if you're more sympathetic towards the person in the wrong than the wrong, then you're an a**hole. Boyfriend needed to feel safe, not wait until op sees Bf gets s-xually harassed

Mental health might explain your behavior but it doesn't excuse you from consequences. The fact she instantly stopped crying when her mother showed up makes her whole behavior even more questionable.

Hey mark! I’ve heard you confuse the pronunciation of “empathize” as in empathy, with “emphasize” as in putting emphasis on something, in a few videos! It doesn’t change the quality of the videos, I still understand what you’re saying, but just letting you know! Really appreciate your uploads. Hope you and the family are having lovely times together

Flatmate OP: I would contact the flatmate's mom, let her know that you saw some of your stuff openly displayed in her daughter's room. Ask if she could come over (without the flatmate) and go through her closet/drawers to see if she has taken anything else. Thank mom for being there to help and that you so very much appreciate her involvement. Let her know about your childhood charm bracelet and that it was taken from the depths of your jewelry box and that's why you are highly concerned that more items could be involved. If mom gets defensive, tell her that you were concerned for your flatmate and don't want to get the police involved, but if she won't help you, ultimately you'll have to speak to them. That is NOT blackmail. You are being upfront about what your options are to get your property back.

That witch needed her hair pulled out from second 1. The poor boyfriend was talking like a classic SA victim (because he was a victim of SA) - 'I'm sorry I didn't tell you' 'this is my fault' etc - and the flatmate went full manipulation playing the victim the moment she got a chance to. Well done to mom, obviously this is a personality flaw not bad parenting, but I still think OP should have taken some clumps of hair before mom took her away.

Story 1: I’d have the bf sit her down and tell her, he told OP bc that is his partner, he doesn’t keep secrets. Next, he should tell her he feels uncomfortable about the touching and doesn’t want that to happen again. Then, he draws some separation boundaries that maybe they shouldn’t all eat together. Idk why everyone is acting like OP needs to be the one to lay things out.

Discombobulated... :'D I don't like the roommate. This is inappropriate, and it feels like she's saying "sorry" because she got caught being a f*cking creep towards your boyfriend. I don't buy that act of remorse. Until you save enough to move out or find somewhere to stay temporarily, the boyfriend should avoid being alone with her (if she's so bad at self-control and/or so unashamed of pursuing a taken man.) And she's a thief at that. Finally, she sounds like the kind of person who fishes for sympathy. I would not be surprised if she stopped the tantrum once she heard *her* *mom* because the woman already knows about her daughter's behavior and doesn't buy into it. ಠ_ಠ
