Although lighthouses are not natural, these structures enhance any coastal scene b/c they are set in the middle of natural beauty, with the beautiful architecture to match. I ♥ Lighthouses.

@@MattCookOregon I knew it was a whole lot of work, but you succeeded very wėl, in Holland, I live in the south of the country, it's a pity that there are no lighthouses, only going upwards to the see. One of this proud building s is the Brandaris lighthouse, it's 400 years old En there are 2 light keepers 24/7 in it. Awesome too. 😍😍

Brandaris lighthouse looks interesting, very old architecture. 400 years! Oregon lighthouses are babies compared to that. I wonder why it hasn't been automated?
@187650128jh
@187650128jh 2 жыл бұрын
@@MattCookOregon It was automated, but after about 2 years, ships where complaining that often they had difficulties about the contact with the tower, wichs is so important for ships coming from abroad. Then the minister said: " 400 years there where keepers in the tower, 400 years it was working very well and now its disturbing, so there have to be keepers in it again". They renewed the tower with new accommodations and a Freshnel lamp and today it's fits very well, but we Don, t have just a few in Holland, in contrast with the country you live. Although we are very proud of them!

At some point. I tried this winter and had to turn around due to the weather. I wouldn't try it during summer/fall so will have to wait.

Why does this country appear to not want to preserve its history or heritage? Why do some people feel empowered to destroy something that doesn't belong to them?

Vandalism is a monster I cannot explain. Though if you think about it, if we don't respect the native history, hard to expect anyone to respect our recent history.

Ships passing close to Yaquina Head have reported their compasses going awry. While eerie, there is a simple explanation for this. The outcropping on which the lighthouse sits contains a vein of magnetized iron, and if a ship passes too close, a traditional compass will not give an accurate reading.

Last year it was announced that the owners of Terrible Tilly have abandoned it and its no longer being used as a columbarium.

@@MattCookOregon Yes I did. And you are correct. They abandoned the idea of the columbarium and its for sale now. They stated it was too dangerous taking the ashes out. You would think, knowing the history of that place, they would have known that was going to be an issue!

Lighthouses prove that the Earth is flat. That is why we can see lighthouses from hundreds of miles away. If the Earth really was curved we would not be able to see lighthouses and nobody would have built them in the first place. Great video by the way. Thanks.

What an amazing job but as a native and local, listening to you mispronounce so many places is very frustrating. Keep up the good work. This is a truly great piece otherwise. Thank you for your time and effort!
