Wow! The wherry is certainly a craft of beauty. A very fine job Mark. Thanks for allowing us to follow the build and all your tips. The bright work is amazing!

Great live stream…as usual I missed it live. The skiff finished up really nice, pretty little boat. You’re very good at working out elegant solutions for the fiddly bits, the brass “grommets” and cover clips, the whole cover design and the ridgepole setup. Looking forward to more on the Catalina wherry project.

No you haven't. I didn't shoot any meaningful video for this build. I just couldn't take the time.

Sorry I missed the live feed Mark. Didn't know it was coming up. That skiff is beautiful and I love the lines. Lots of nice tricks on the cover. Hope you had a great time in Mexico and got some sun and fun in the surf. Have a great week, sir.

Sorry for not giving you all the heads up. Just couldn’t get my ducks in a row this weekend.
@mattevans-koch93539 ай бұрын
@@Nomadboatbuilding You having ducks to get in a row is better than my having squirrels that are usually drunk.

Great work Mark. I love the lines of this one. Wish I had a bit of warning that you were doing this live stream. Truth be told though, I was busy with firewood processing... Toby E.

Sorry. I suck at forewarning on these live streams. I kind of use them as a last ditch effort to get something out there for you folks.

@@Nomadboatbuilding No shame in it Mark. I'm of the same ilk, (though I don't make videos for KZbin). I still enjoyed the video and how you discussed the choices you made in the design and construction. Cheers good fellow!

On our Eastern Red Cedar (Latin name translation: Virginia Juniper), we have the varying colors of wood in the tree. What I always assumed was the heartwood almost looks like purple heart in color (and oxidizes to brown), and the outside is dark off-white. I always assumed this was heartwood and sapwood, but I have worked with it, and there's no difference in consistency between the two colors. I think your theory of varying mineral content is probably pretty close.

Our native Garry oak is the same.
@SavingMaverick559 ай бұрын
@Nomadboatbuilding I just looked up Garry oak. It looks almost like something of a hybrid between English oak and standard white oak. I'd imagine it makes great boatbuilding lumber.
@Nomadboatbuilding9 ай бұрын
Well some say it’s okay, some say not so great. I don’t think it’s quite as rot resistant as white. Regardless, every tree guy chops it down in 16” lengths. So everyone likes it for firewood.
@SavingMaverick559 ай бұрын
@@Nomadboatbuilding I've seen plenty of oak that would make crap lumber, but never any that wouldn't make great firewood.

That boat is a triumph! Well done. Those oars are beautiful. I might add some plugs for the holes in the hull, but that’s me. I’ve never heard of cedar oars. It’s an interesting idea. How well do they perform against say ash?
@Nomadboatbuilding9 ай бұрын
Well Red cedar oars will be totally different than ash. They would be a little more whippy than spruce or fir you might say, and certainly lighter.

Hi I like these types BUT I need (and others) at least 24 hours notice it i happening. It is good to have close personal talk in what is going on . Also you need to share the other tasks you are doing . Your followers are truly interested. Good to hear the Catalina Wherry is forth coming. I have two examples in works and need closing instruction.

Yup. Sorry about that lack of notice. I wasn’t sure I would have the motivation until it was happening.
