This is one of the most educational videos on Logic I've seen. Not only have you demonstrated how well it runs on M1, but you've also taught us a bit about how Logic Pro actually handles CPU loads and why! This is very very crucial! Thank you very much!

Thanks for this! Based on what you said I did at bit of experimentation and also realized the following: Setting up a bus before the stereo out lets you divide up the load of the "mastering chain" on two cores (eg. for example mixbus compression and saturation on the bus, and then gullfoss, tape emu and limiting on the stereo out). It actually makes a huge difference (on an M2 Macbook pro) here.

It would be very interesting if Apple would optimize Logic Pro to be able to use available GPU cores for extra processing power, particularly as they release more powerful GPUs in the future. If Apple were to create a new plug-in format that uses their GPU as a separate processor for running plug-ins, that would change the game for real time tracking through plug-ins in Logic Pro without the necessity for extra external hardware.
@garysolomon38452 жыл бұрын
My money is on the leadership at Apple not re-architecting Logic pro to use the GPUs to great affect. They have chosen a very simple way of scaling with a multicore CPU. It is mostly the OS's problem to divvy out the work between cores without sw architectural changes within the application. It would be a much larger problem for the Logic pro developers were they to rearchitect the application to use GPU for the computation tasks that are currently handled by the CPU. It can certainly be done, but don't envision them doing it.
@robertsimpson58012 жыл бұрын
@@garysolomon3845 yeah, I agree with you. Interestingly enough, another company has taken advantage of the gap in the market. Check out GPU Audio. They already support running VST3 plugins on Nvidia GPUs, and within a week, they will officially support AMD GPUs. In 2023, they will support Apple Silicon, and they intend to expand support to cover different plug-in formats, beginning with AU and AAX. If they do not have a patent on the concept, Apple needs to jump on board, but I doubt they will.

@@robertsimpson5801 i did a consulting gig for a few years at NVIDIA after retiring from Intel in 2012 and i can tell you that NVIDIA did a TON of heavy lifting to enable general computes on a GPU core. They invested heavily in enabling the development community with great sw tools, and a compiler to help designers port their massivly parallel computing solutions to Nvidia gpus. I just don't see the "geniouses" at Apple even knowing what is required for industry enabling no less take on anything that involved.

@MarkPayneAudio3 жыл бұрын
It will all just get better and faster IMHO. The real issue is the "half way house" . Rosetta Logic on Rosetta Plugs is all good... reliable and at some performance penalty compared to where we will get to. What I don't fancy is M1/Native Logic with say 50% intel plugs and 50% M1 plugs. That will be messy.

I've been using Linux for the Internet at office tools for a long time. For audio recording I had Cubase for Windows. Above all, the know-how in relation to the CPU utilization was decisive for me to switch to Aplle M1. The performance and your style with the glass of wine ;-) Thank you very much

This is really a worth-while review of Apples M1 series for audio production since its inception back in 2020. We've All been clocking the M1 in every format since its release.. & This 30 minutes deserves a replay. Time well spent, Thank you Mark Payne ! Anything that is well done is done forever. Cheers !

Finally, and, well worth the wait. The promos for plug ins, never discuss the processing power they pull from your CPU. Unless you have experience in this area, you’ll be in for a nice surprise when you begin to load up your tracks. Well done, I particularly enjoyed your discussion on tutorials that speak of using 60 or 70 tracks, casually as if, it’s a given. Thank you

You need to get out of the studio and into a classroom. I have searched over and over again just for some actual information describing the use and effect of manipulating the audio preferences - your presentation was so thorough and clear. Subscribing. While I was not interested in everything you presented here, I watched the whole video just to inform myself about "the rest of the picture." Again, very well done (excellent, actually!!) and ... thank you for sharing and posting.

This is a fantastic video. I needed a new music computer and my mid 2011 iMac i7 maxed out with High Sierra. I was a Logic 7.8 and 9 user and wanted to get back to Logic and the 10.6 update. So I looked at a 2020 iMac. 27 inch mid tier and with the specs I wanted it would be well over 3K. Too much for me currently. I started seeing M1 videos but they were all tons of sine wave tracks with plugins. I was looking for a real world music session video and found your video which was what I was looking for and it convinced me to buy a M1 Mini 16/1TB at half the cost of the 2020 intel iMac. I couldn't be more pleased with the M1 and Logic running in Rosetta 2 every thing is smooth as silk. With the money saved I was able to update my Waves library to V12 buy Komplete 13 a second display and a bunch of Virtual instruments. Thanks for sharing your knowledge.

Great content. Your video on the Macbook Air performance with Logic got me to cancel an order for the Macbook Pro and I bought the Air instead. Very happy with the Air. Thanks.

All and even more I needed to know about ‘how m1 and Logic are performing together’. Excellent video from a real red wine lover, right! :) !? Thanks and cheers man.
