Repairing Main Tailgate Loom BMW. Broken wires open insulation. Tail light wiring error.
Here I open up and look at the wiring loom on the main Tailgate on an E61. Also the same on E91
Showing you how to expose the Loom and check the wires. Especially in the metal brackets that encase the wires at the hinge where they are known to stretch and break.
This can fix key fob not working, rear defrost not working, rear window not opening, rear defroster not working. Tailgate not opening

Great video. I've just fixed my e61 glass tailgate problem, together with my failed heated rear screen and failed rear washer, thanks to your informative guide. I guess you're now realised that the way to avoid catapulting the nut across the garage is to undo those nuts when the glass tailgate is in the open position !! :-)

Thank you very much for this detailed video. I followed your steps and found two broken wires and a few more bent and chaffed. Reconnected wires, rewrapped and alas, key fob is working again!

Tim McDonough I found this video too. After just taking the diversity antenna apart expecting that to be my key fob issue but it looked fine. Did you find some wires damaged on the right side or both? My heated rear screen stopped working a year ago and then my rear wiper and now the remote locking. Ordered a new key from bmw as well and it did nothing £170🙈

Marcus Macleod I actually first replaced my diversity antenna and that didn’t do the trick and then decided to investigate the wiring. It was all on the right (passenger) side harness. I never figured out what the 2nd broken wire was but assumed it was the rear defogger, which I never use.

GamingWilloh there was a brown one and a white with blue stripe and then a few others where the casing was stripped, but not broken.

Hi mark, very helpful video. i have the same problem parking lights not working.I had a break in the yellow and white wire. i fixed it but only the right parking light works now. The bulds are good. I cant figure out why only the right light works now and not the left. Any ideas?

Ronan Woods I have a few videos about the tailgate loom and especially about the wires. I made a playlist with them all. Other than that it is checking the continuity of each wire from the taillight through to the loom accessed through the roof speaker. They can break internally not showing on the outside

Can this be the problem that my hifi subs stop working when I close my trunk? I open my trunk and subs start working again. I don't have to close trunk fully, just close it until it almost locks in. So I guess the culprit should be wiring shown in the video?

7beats Sounds very likely to me that you have an issue with the wires in the loom. Check the interior lighting first as that switches right when you are saying as well.
