Hi, its not used as a filter any more, years of use have clocked it up completely, its still on top of the tub and I have to water the pothos about once a week but thats it, the tub does have a patmini on full power cleaning it.

Pothos is great for aquariums ,with me though I dont like to have it directly in the tank because shrimp climb the think and end up outside of the tank lol

Do you have problems with other plants in that tank? Does they grow normally because pothos take nitrates and other nutrients in the water? What about Cabomba, Jafa moss, anubias? Will they grow? Tnx

Mark,my friend! I plan on starting 2 shrimp tanks in 2, 50gal (approximate),tanks. Will just bubble filters due? I will have shrimp,snails and plants in these tanks. no other tank mates. If not enough. could I use a DIY canister or shower filter to supplement filtration or maybe stretch out water changes? Or what about a "fluidiezed" filter with a RO/DI drip?

I like over filtration with Shrimp but you can get away with just a sponge filter ,you also get away with stretching out water changes with Shrimp because they are tiny :)

I've been wanting to put this type of filter on my aquarium. Basically so I can have an overhead sump. I really love this idea. It is really great with the plants growing. Did you keep it going?

yes for many years, eventually it got chocked up though, the plants did super well in it, if I was to do it again I would look into hydroponic material as a substrate for the plants.

I'm working on a very similar project for my turtles. The difference between yours and mine is that I'm hooking mine into the outlet of my canister filter. Also I'm not going to use pathos. I'll be using lucky bamboo, peace lilies and possibly some palms of some kind. Is yours still running and have you run into any problems with it?

Thank you for the response. I have to make a change to mine the water isn't draining as fast as it's filling so I need a bigger outlet for it. I've also ordered clay balls as the gravel I tried using was to heavy. So by this weekend I should have it working.

Next time try putting the drain on the side and you won't have to worry about the box draining out into the tank.

Hello Bob,thats what I did Bob About a week after making this video .I just drilled two tiny hole in the plastic and I used 3-4 black cable ties to pull it together ,the bow is gone and the black cable ties arent really noticeable ether ..result :)

You should use acorus grammineus in some of you filters as well it’s a really easy to find and propagate.

Oh I cant remember is was such a long time ago, you want one that can push to a head height of at least a meter.

no but the sponge prefilter might. if there is no prefilter you can pull a nylon stocking over it that will stop shrimp climbing in side.

No problem , Yes they help clean the water by removing what the plants would class as food and they are all good with fish and shrimp ..in fact goldfish love to eat duckweed :D
