Brilliant because it’s so simple. This is a great example of how our first solutions to things are usually complex and costly. Just look online at all the audio booth options. While it takes mental time to come up with simple, effective and cheap.

@Lyrikile Trife There is a difference between soundproofing and a ball that directs your vocals. There is a glaring open space for sound to travel in so the answer is no it will not stop the mic from recording footsteps, traffic noise or overhead passing aeroplanes. It is to deaden echo going into the mic. Not for sound proofing.
@therealkingmoni3 жыл бұрын
@Lyrikile Trife its really not so much to block sound its to capture higher quality sound and stop the sound waves from bouncing everywhere . it will reduce the sounds but just use aa noise gate in your daw. that will work much better.

I'm new to this, would the small closed space inside the cube not cause reverb issues and echo or something?
@ginrickey67556 жыл бұрын
I was thinking about using this method with dynamic mics, either in the style of an SM58 or something more for broadcast, like an SM7 or RE20. I'm worried about the walls of the foam being too close and creating a cupping sound. I've already gotten a hint of this tests I've done with cheap phone, but wanted to make sure before buying cubes. Do you have any experience with this?
@glenkippel8193 жыл бұрын
The polar patterns of the SM7 and RE-20 are very good already and this should not be necessary. There are a lot of mics that claim to be "cardioid" but don't have much rejection of back sound and this device is helpful for those.

Question for you. I've been unable to find any info as to what type of special foam the Kaotica Eyeball uses, are you certain that acoustic foam is really the best choice, versus other highly dense foam? It seems logical to me that it is, but I wish I had more information before I spend money either on a dense foam sports ball or on an acoustic foam corner cube. Have you ever managed to compare your DIY isolation cube with one of the homemade sports ball versions? I'd really love to know which worked out better if you did. Thanks for this tutorial in any case, I will almost certainly go with an acoustic foam cube instead of an elephant training ball or a dense sports ball, because it makes the most sense to me that acoustic foam is the right material for the purpose.

@martyneary70267 жыл бұрын
Yes Mark, that's o.k. But many people watching your video will naturally own and have spent a lot of money on a condenser Mic. I own a Samson Meteor , a condenser Mic. Other online tutors highly recommend the blue yeti - another superb condenser Mic. After your comments, I now think your idea will work less effectively, if I don't own a dynamic Mic, something you didn't clarify in your online instructions. Forgive me for being disappointed - unless you would care to elaborate more specifically on the detailed differences?

Hi Mark, Cube working fine. I find it on the heavy side and it did pull over my desk stand. So I just rest my mic inside the cavity, as the Samson has tripod feet.
