Thankyou for explaining alot about the River, the Tow, what the rules are, and how the Pilot handle the tow with current. Alot of information this time.

The southbound trip was an adventure. It was near record low water levels all the way to the gulf, where we met up with hurricane Isaac. Footage from the trip will be seen someday soon, I hope.

Fascinating! The Rules of the Road even work on the Missipsippi. I wish the young people who I see going out on their first boat could see what you do.and learn something from it. Especially in part 3 of this video, you talk about groundings and say that you just have to know what you're doing. Amen. I wish you could come east where I am and talk to young boaters. I know you can't replace experience, but they have to start somewhere. Thanks for posting! Bill

I've just had to subscribe, - (I'm in the UK and I know nothing about boats apart from a 'sharp end and blunt end' or in your case two 'blunt ends'), however I found your talk about how, and what you were doing absolutely fascinating. I was in Memphis, - (my late wife was an Elvis fan), - about 12 years ago, it was January, and some of your "towboats" were passing on the river, and we just sat and watched them in awe of the length that they were pushing. There were also some, - (I think modern), - stern-wheelers moored their, but they weren't operating, - due to it being winter we presumed.

Excellent three part series! Cap'n, when you are filming, the videos are good; when you are narrating and someone else is filming, I learn a lot more because you don't have to mess w/ the camera. I hope that there is a series of the down bound trip that follows these three.

That was also a bad year to try to feed stock. Everything was dried up. It was very interesting listening to you tell that gal about your job.
