Markus, Honestly... this is the best comparison on youtube; and Ive watched THOUSANDS. Kudos - great job! Seeing them back to back makes all the difference. I took screenshots of all your samples - it really is an excellent reference - thank you. You definitely need to do different versions. Perhaps with some midrange cameras or older high end used cameras people would consider. (Like a used Olympus OMD EM1 markii). If I could make a suggestion. The 3 most important factors for video camera shoppers are usually 1.Autofocus(phase detect is a must) 2. Stability (ois at a min) 3. Image quality(color, depth, Dynamic range, "blurryness") 4. Size. What would have made this video even better? I wished you had been slightly more consistent with movement and tripod shots. Also if you had added a fast "push in or push out" shot-- so we can see how these cameras handle typical autofocus on fast movement. Like the Canon G7X iii looked amazing in your static length shots - but Ive found it to have terrible autfocus on fast moving shots of my kids. That didnt come through on this video. I realize you were just doing an intro, but there is a real lack of these back to back to back comparisons in typical use scenarios. Many of us dont want to be bloggers we just want to get nice rich, 4k vids of our families in a package we can carry. The Dad niche. LASTLY, not having your Samsung NX500 with 45/F1.8 in this comparison was INEXCUSABLE!! I demand a reshoot!
@MarkusPix4 жыл бұрын
I didn't do fast push in and outs and showing kids etc because this video is aimed at Vloggers who simply hold a camera at arms length at themselves, hence the title of this video. For overall everyday shooting, I would have made an entirely different video. Thanks for the compliements

Great info-filled videos, but one thing you haven't touched upon is what is the continuous length of any video that one can make with each camera, in other words how long can a video vlog be with each of these? Do they come with built in storage capacity, so for example you could do a continuous video for 45 minutes or so? Or do some of them come with/without a slot for SD cards? I have a Nikon D7200 with which I could only do 29 minute videos before I had to stop and do the next one. Talking of which, how much would my Nikon now cost new, or if I sold it as used with its original lens?

Always enjoy your videos and the common sense message that it's not about the gear but having fun. I find I have just as much fun with a little cheap 4/3 camera as with my full frame and it's easier to carry around. That becomes important as the years pile up. Thanks and stay safe.

Thanks for the comparisons! Good job. ONE thing to note... The Sony a6100 and a6400 came out recently (I have the a6100) and they can shoot for MUCH longer without overheating. Also note, the 16-50mm kit lens has image stabilization built in. For close in vlogging (as in selfie stick) it is a good range. You can't get anywhere near the 50mm without being too cropped in anyway. I'm loving it so far. I'm a FOREVER photographer with decades upon decades of experience but, besides videoing my kids school concerts when they were young, I'm relatively new into video. In SOME ways, upon looking at your new consumer video camera comparison vid, I might have been better off getting a dedicated camcorder. We'll see. Cheers!!! :-)

Hey Markus, your complete and easy to understand review made me a believer ... not in any particular camera, but in your channel, so I have subscribed. I'm just getting into vlogging and the equipment that goes with it, at my age that puts me behind the eight ball, and must admit that it's the editing where I have problems, as well as audio. I want to pick up a handheld mic (must be wireless since both my iPhone and first camera -Cannon sx730HS- have no audio jack. What would be the easiest and least expensive route? I'm thinking about this Samson Go Mic wireless system with Q8 handheld transmitter. It's only $100 .... Thoughts?
@scarlettbruns68612 жыл бұрын
Hey Markus, I'm hoping you can help me find a camera that can do all the things I want / need haha... Camera wants: - Adjustable depth of field (blurry background for vlogging, but also able to film scenery, performances etc) - Very good quality filming at night / dark environments. - Stabilization - Continuous recording time of minimum 2 hours. - Ability to charge / plug in while recording - Good zoom. Things I will be using the camera for: Vlogging Filming daytime and nighttime entertainment (think fireworks, Disneyland etc) Filming Ballet recitals Filming animals from a significant distance (safari, bird watching etc) Budget $2000 all in (including lens if it’s not part of the camera) Ideally, I’d like a camcorder with an affixed lens that is somewhat compact and can fit in a small bag/backpack and isn’t too heavy to hold at arms length or be affixed to a small handheld mount. Does this exist? Thank you!!!
@eltouristoduo4 жыл бұрын
THANKS! for all the built in mics giving just a basic impression. Big range of quality there! So very informative ! So far the G7xmkiii seems to have a surprisingly good internal mic. Where the M3 didn't seems as good of an internal mic. And Sony seems to not care. My point being, the differences in quality and usability of built-in mic sound is something that seems under-discussed, and under-reviewed. Because while yes a mic-input is still the more important thing, a few, just a few of the built in mics seems quite usable. My background and knowledge is more in sound than in photography btw. I wonder if there are trends for the major brands, like one generally having better built in mics. I'm just starting to try to piece together impressions about this by watching a bunch of YT videos, so thanks ! BTW if you are not doing multi-channel audio (multiple mics), it's not clear why one would prefer separate audio. There are more considerations, but let me be more clear... I mean no reason for separate audio files! No need for a separate recorder ! (But you might want to use the preamps that are in that audio recorder you already own but the H4n series don't have a line out, the headphone out is a poor and inconvenient way to connect). Because quality is actually NOT an issue using a cameras mic input.. because with a mic input you can take ANY audio source and connect it there, not just mics or powered mics ! So you can STILL use ANY mic pres, mics, processing anything...there seems to be NO good reason to NOT capture that audio in the camera ! Differences in the audio/mic input itself and the AD conversion there, WHEN feeding it a strong and high quality signal are almost NEVER going to be REMOTELY noticeable vs the best input there is.. because when you feed an input a good signal it's NOT a demanding situation. So my question there is why would you want to have to deal with 1. Starting/stopping a separate audio recorder 2. Keeping track of etc double the storage card. 3. Keeping track of files that go with each other, you have to have some system of matching them or you have to watch and listen 4. You don't have to sync !, and you don't HAVE to do post ! I think this is something people might not consider or be aware of about WHY mic inputs on cams are so even more important than they seem !

I really love that library you have picked to record this video. That Lumix LX10 is really great. Great performance and price. Why did Samsung give up their camera segment? I record my videos using a NX1. And sometimes when I use a second angle I use a NX500. Yes, lets sign a petition!! Sony RX0 ii -> they really make crazy stuff. Gear: I have started shooting film again. Nikon FE. Great fun. When you receive the processed film you don't remember exactly what is on there anymore. I scan the negatives which is like a big wow, when the pictures turned out great. Very different way of taking pictures.
