Unfortunately it’s not possible to add a networks storage to home assistant and use this as backup location if you installed HASS in a Raspberry Pi in a docker container. Hope this will be possible to save the automatic backups to the QNAP NAS. Currently still have to use a Rsync backup script to backup the hole bind mounts in /home/pi/docker/home-assistant 😢

With the "old" system (earlier than 2025.1) I could choose the backup location. Regretfully that option is now gone. Now "This System" (whatever that means) is the only option.😒

Great to see you back on form, don't burn out. What's with the t-shirt colour change?
@MarkWattTech14 күн бұрын
Appreciated thank you and Happy New Year!. The colour change is a KZbin thing. There's an option now when you upload to submit two thumbnails and it gives me insights on what people find more attractive to I guess help me create thumbnails? I didn't know what to pick so I just coloured my top differently 😂. Probably the only person to notice so +10 point to you.

So Mark .. I am using hassio running on an RP5 with an NVME boot drive.. say its dead .. what are the steps I take before I execute the restore?

0445 doesn't work for me. I back up to a Samba share on my desktop machine (which then gets backed up to the cloud with everything else on that machine) and guess what, the desktop is not powered up at 0445.

So sad that this update did brick the Google update function, it was great to have automatic update both localy and stored in the cloud.
@Kaputznefreble2 күн бұрын
does it really brick the google backup? if so, i would prefer the google addon

Does it available for all now?

It will be in a couple of hours 👌🏻

They really screwed me with core 2025.1.1! The update caused my bluetooth dongle to not be detected. Now I can't restore any of my backups due to the applied encryption. When I setup my backups months ago with google drive addon encryption was not MANDATORY. I am flaming mad about this BS. I have no way to retrieve the key from the backups. I know , but who reads change-logs? 🤬
@adsadam111 сағат бұрын
"but who reads change-logs?" Tell me you don't work in software without telling me lol But for real, I absolutely hate the mandatory encryption and so do a lot of other people, so I'm waiting on an update that doesn't require it. Did you ever use the HAS Google Drive integration?
@rayz550810 сағат бұрын
@@adsadam1yes I do use the Google drive backups without issue. I could not restore any of the 10 backups. HA asked for a encryption key that I didn't create because it was not required.

Encryption mandatory on a local system is horrible. Multiple backups are redundant when the key is a single point of failure. I get it for cloud but it’s an unnecessary and flawed system on a fully local system. Love HA but hate this so much.

What's worse is the semantics around this. they setup an encryption key for the backup but ask for a password on the restore. MnS.
@GaryBarclay18 күн бұрын
WTF! They're enforcing a new encryption key for each manual backup! How do they expect us to track these? Who built this? They're getting in the way of taking backups and that's bad.
@bsem6817 күн бұрын
Yes I agree 100%, just like this video is horrible where it does not explain this. After being forced to setup the encryption, any backup that is done through the settings is encrypted now. However, I noticed that the onedrive backup integration does not encrypt its backups still - can tell by clicking on the backup to see if encrypted or not (I hope they keep this way or provide an option if they choose to in future). It is nice to be able to download a backup, untar it and browse through windows... but now need to use a special utility to decrypt it... at least provide ability to do this and explain better before pushing this on us Maybe 7-zip will do, haven't bothered to try yet. Cloud backups to Nabu should be encrypted, but encrypting local backups is just stupid.

Homeassistant Backups were hot garbage until 2025.1. A full backup would previously include media and shares...like why?. The new backup system is better in that it allows you setup what you want to backup as part of your auto backup, big improvement but it's still hot garbage...reason being that a backup is only as good as it's restore process and the HA restore process is fundamentally flawed. Restoring to a new install from a backup might work(if you're lucky) but you're given no indication of its progress other than a spinning wheel. When it does fail, it doesn't give you any information as to why. Worse, if you try to by pass that and create a new HA config and then try to recover into that from your backup, you are provided more information on failures but it fails on things like different Supervisor versions or if you're trying to migrate over install types. Totally un-count-onable.

Agreed. Worst restore UI in any app, ever. The new backup feature might be better on that side of the backup / restore formula, but I think I'll keep Google backup as well. And keep hoping that eventually the Devs will do something to make the restore UI better - but I won't hold my breath on that.
