Luang Prabang is an amazing historical city in Laos, and it also happens to be an amazing city for food. You’ll find an array of incredible Lao food to experience.
Morning Market - One of the best places to get started eating Lao street food in Luang Prabang is the morning market. It’s low-key, relaxing, the vendors are incredibly friendly, and there’s so much delicious food to try. From wild grilled beehive to khao piak sen noodles, the food is so good, it’s hard to ever go anywhere else when you’re in Luang Prabang. The food highlight for me was the grilled honey comb, since it was so rare and unique. Additionally, you’ll have a blast checking out all the ingredient at the market. Here’s what I ate:
Grilled beehive - 5,000 LAK ($0.60)
Mung bean cake - 5,000 LAK ($0.60) for 2
Naem
Khao gee - 5,000 LAK ($0.60) for 3
Noodle rolls - 10,000 LAK ($1.20
Khao piak sen - 15,000 LAK ($1.80) per bowl
Phosi Market - One of the biggest markets in Luang Prabang is Phosi Market. Unfortunately there wasn’t much pre-cooked food when we went there in the middle of the day, but luckily we found some amazing food.
Sai oua - Sai oua is the northern Laos version of sausage, and it’s a life-changer. This stall served some of the best sausage, not only that I’ve had in Laos, but in the world. You’ll find sai oua all over Luang Prabang. Price - 10,000 LAK ($1.20) each
Sticky rice feast - I desperately wanted a Luang Prabang sticky rice meal for lunch, so eventually after walking around a little we found the perfect spot. She had a variety of different Lao food stews to choose from and they all look great. All the dishes were delicious, but the best Lao food of the meal for me was the bowl of aw bon (or bon) - made from taro leaves.
Total price - 40,000 LAK ($4.79)
Finally, for dinner to finish off this Luang Prabang street food tour, we headed to the evening market, located perpendicular to the night market walking street. We ordered a Mekong fish and then some very interesting Lao dishes from the curry stall. The algae salad was particularly interesting and delicious.
Fish - 80,000 LAK ($9.58), farmed fish were considerably cheaper
Dinner total - 60,000 LAK ($7.18)
It was an amazing day exploring Lao street food in Luang Prabang. Luang Prabang is a food paradise.

I wanted to thank you. I started researching my trip to Laos over a year ago, and just got back last month. I used you for much of my Luang Prabang stay, and you were spot on! Phounsab Guesthouse couldn't be more perfectly placed to enjoy the city! The food was wonderful (although I am not as adventurous as you) LOL! The Kangee from that woman on the sidewalk will forever be one of my favorite dishes! What a wonderful country! I'm going back next year! The staff at the little bakery across the street from Phounsab couldn't have been sweeter, and the waitress almost cried when I bought her a Coke. It's good to remember how poor some of the people are, and treat them well!

Hi Mark, I’d like to add that “there’s no fat” in Nam (the fermented pork) They used lean pork and skin mix with “cooked rice, salt and garlic” the white stuff you saw was rice not fat 😊 Whenever my Granma makes them, she makes sure that part of the pork she uses is lean because the fat will effect the taste in a bad way. Love all your videos 😊

Hi Mark! I'm a lao guy born in France and one of my grandmother was Vietnamese. Two of the dishes you had were actually of Vietnamese origin, the noodle rolls and the khao piek sen, called banh banh cuon and banh canh. Another Vietnamese dish you can find anywhere in Laos is pho of course . All these influences from neighboring countries are what make lao food awesome.

We thought we almost had the chance when we reached out to you while we were in Ethiopia and we saw your video of you being in Ethiopia with Ying. I almost jumped out of my skin at the thought that you were there too but when you reached back out to us you said that the video was a month ago :-( we were so sad but we know God is going to give us that divine hookup to meet you and Ying and hopefully Micah soon. The ultimate reason I'm writing you is to tell you that we absolutely love Joel accompanying you. He has such an awesome and wonderful personality and he's an awesome addition to your show. The best thing about Luang Prabang is the perfect marriage between French and Laotian culture in a gorgeous setting. The beautiful palm fringed streets and French villas thanks to the French and the many beautiful monasteries along the narrow streets thanks to the Loatians in a beautiful peaceful peninsula surrounded by water. Now that's the number one reason to come here! Oh Mark, I appreciate your passion but some times it's a bit misguided. Hahahahaha

To GDT:. He has his own channel and yes, he's very good even spot on about his flavors and knowledge about what he is eating. Being a Foodie, I watch both of them , but enjoy Mark the most because of his sense of humor. Just a personal choice.

Oyster or Clam, I believe he was in Japan and ate lobsters first then went to a market and started he is not fond of that kind of shell fish it's just not his thing. Hard 2 believe almost rite lol. I also don't think mark is very fond of German food either just from his reactions, it seemed all the same....meat n beer.

This all looks so good..I can imagine eating there in person experiencing it and loving it...Just like the first time I ever tried Thai food I sat there and wept. I had never tasted such a flavor profile as I had when I first ate it..Now I go all the time and it still hits me with every bite.
