Thanks for a great look at these WTG knives, Mark. I love Sabre grind knives... specifically a sabre grind with a good convex edge applied. The edge is just as important to me as the grind.

Would love to get my hands on the sabre grind version. The biggest thing for me is sharpening, I always have a hard time with the scandis. Would be cool to see how you go about sharpening different blade shapes and grinds Mark.

G'day Mark, yep very nice mate. I'm with ya, noth'n wrong with scandis or full flats, but the vast majority of my modest collection are stainless sabres for that bit extra versatility and less maintenance in my climate. Car camping I'll take several to mess about with i.e. test and affirm familiarity. However, on the trail, as a strong advocate of pairing, I go with two different sizes, grinds and blade shapes to increase the versitility further, the proviso being, if one is lost or fails, the other will still get you out of strife. Given the choice of these two I'd go with the sabre, though I reckon either would be great to pair with a walloper, say a Skrama, parang or flat bladed machete ...... or a hatchet for that matter. My favourite combination is a small or mid-size belt knife and a larger knife in my pack. Occasionally an axe but always a saw. Thanks for commenting Duke

To scandi grind or not to scandi grind, that is the question! Personally I’d like a low sabre. Something just a bit higher than a scandi. Grohmann is having a seconds sale and they have the #1 for the first time in like a year. I’m thinking about getting one so I’ll have 1-3

G'day Jim, hahaha, that is the question alright ; ) I reckon the highest priority out on the trail is strength through splitting, and fair to say a scandi makes sense in that respect. But, I'm with ya mate, so does a "low" sabre in particular and with more versatility across the board. The best of all worlds is a "sabre-vex" IMO i.e. Bravos and the like. Though a lot of folks seem to be flummoxed by the sharpening of such. I'd argue its easier and quicker to hone that last little bit of the vex, (especially with a hand held stone of some description out in the sticks), than potentially take off more steel on a "V' edge, ..... and a "full" scandi, for the application, borders on the ridiculous IMO ; ) Anyway, best of luck with the Grohmann sale mate. Great comparison of the 2 different grinds! I do however have a question not related, What hat are you wearing and where did you get it? I have been looking for one for a long time and have not been able to find one.
