Hi Mark - I bought this knife too. I love the fact that there is no way this knife will ever fall out of the sheath. This thing arrived super sharp and I have no problem getting and keeping a great edge on it. It scrapes and carves well, it does everthing I had hoped it would and it looks great. Like you said, keep her dry and put a little oil on her and the blade stays pristine. I have way too may knives now and I blame you. Just playin, I appreciate you and your videos. Have a great long weekend.

Nice review as always, Mark! When you brought out the Forester to compare to the Voyageur, I couldn't help but think to myself that the Forester looks like it would suit my hand better than the Voyageur. With your large hands, the Voyageur isn't a problem to work with, but with my tiny hobbit hands, I think the Forester would be just an overall better fit. Haven't held either knife, of course, so it's just going on the overall size. Both knives have such a similar shape and profile that it looks like their abilities would be pretty similar, unless you really needed the extra blade length for some reason.
@MarkYoungBushcraft
@MarkYoungBushcraft 5 ай бұрын
The knife handles are exactly the same. You could even switch them if you wanted. The size of the blades does change how they feel in the hand though. For me, the smaller Forester is a bit more of a regular carry knife with the Voyageur being more of a camp knife. Thanks for commenting

G'day Mark, yep great all round design in the 5-6 in. range and what an uplifting experience to have input, good on ya mate !!!!! I did think this one might be a little large for you, fair to say you generally err on the side of a more nimble carver/bushcrafter. And, since we all usually talk about "sharpening" a spine, ...... as a fellow carver, I did get a chuckle out of your opposite observations, ...... i.e. nice to keep one's thumbprints intact if you can ; ) With rust, I dont mind a bit of a patina, especially on more of a historic carbon design, (and thanks for providing the background, very interesting), it just gets to the stage of being insidious here if you're not careful. Btw; you can tell by the sound of very hard wood, ....... it has a kinda "clink" sound to it ; ) Cheers Duke.
@MarkYoungBushcraft
@MarkYoungBushcraft 5 ай бұрын
Hi Duke. Yes, a bit big for most of what I use a knife for but so nice to use just the same. I left the knife 'as is" until the review but will be putting a patina on it now and likely rounding a portion of the spine. Thanks for commenting

It definitely has a 19th century look about it. I don't have a sabre-ground knife and this looks unique enough to go into a shortlist. I carry a couple of strips of 3M microfinish film for maintaining carbon steel. 60 and 30μ, fast and gives the finish I like. The sheath looks very businesslike. This knife is not yet available in the UK. What kind of price can I expect? £150? Thanks for the review Mark.

Nice review! You had mentioned near the beginning of the video that you put a larger loop in the lanyard. Was this so you could slip your last finger into the loop to secure the knife in your hand when performing light chopping tasks?
@MarkYoungBushcraft

Yes, that was the reason but then forgot to demonstrate it. Works well for light snap-chops. Thanks for commenting

I don’t know why you’re so obsessed with trying to get me to buy another knife, but fortunately it seems sold out most places, except for one, but it’s got a dark handle and coated blade, which I don’t really like. So no impulse buys today. 🙂. Those first few spots are so annoying, but I like my older blades with a nice patina better once they get there.

@@MarkYoungBushcraft Yeah, of course! If you’re going to do a review, especially one that’s gifted to you, it should be stock. And I do respect nice mirror shiny metal, but it just gets so annoying when those dots happen that I just want to get it over with.

It should be called the "Young Tuff Guy" knife…………sorry. It’s a very good looking knife. I have a knife that was difficult to get out of the kydex sheath when I first got it. It’s nice to have good retention, but too much is a pain. I definitely would like this in stainless steel. ✌️🇺🇸🇨🇦✌️

I don't understand why everyone on KZbin pushes this company that's next to impossible to get. That's not even to mention the price. I believe $149 for sk85. Which is basic 1080 steel. Coldsteel sk5 is $35-40 Eafengrow has a few designs that look similar with better prices and steel.
@MarkYoungBushcraft
@MarkYoungBushcraft 5 ай бұрын
A good knife is more than the steel it is made with. Also important is the design, fit and finish and especially the heat treat of the steel. I have the CS SRK and it can't compare with the WTG knives. I do not yet have an Eafengrow so I can't comment on it. Thanks for commenting. BTW... WTG knives are often available from other knife sellers

@@MarkYoungBushcraft the coldsteel master hunter in 3v is $89. The biggest benefit is its easy to get. Work tuff are never in stock. The knives I'm interested in I can't justify the price. My point was accessibility and price makes me not care about work tuff.
