Structure jig makes since more hooks in the mouth instead down the throat placed just right nice skill and technique.

Keep that dirt coming Z!! Years ago I remember the first time I fished a jig. It was like dragging a shaky head with muck all over it. LOL So heavy and all. However, after a few fish, and getting that confidence, I absolutely love fishing yet for big bass. And when they thump it, they thump it! God bless!

Good stuff! I'd love to see how you approach my local lake, Otsego Lake. In previous years the lake was weed chocked except on the deeper breaks. The lake averages about 20 feet deep. Over the last three years the weeds have all but disappeared for some odd reason. Even the shallower breaks have lost all their weeds. It has become increasingly difficult to find fish now other than on a few deeper weed clumps on the major breaks. There was no question that the fish related to the weeds shallow and deep. The other issue is the slop that now represents the lake floor from the decaying weeds. Makes bottom lures very difficult to use. When more weeds were present I began to have success using smaller swim baits. I can only relate this to trying to fish "weed kill" lakes when I lived in SE Michigan. That said there is a nice population of small mouth and walleyes in the lake. Finding them now is difficult to say the least. All of my way points are of no use anymore. Perplexing...

Just read your comment and as it’s been a couple years, any luck finding the new patterns without the weeds?

What is your all around size line you throw with the structure jig I see 15 to 20 but was wondering what do you normally have it tied onto ?

i've migrated over to the structure jig due to the versatility over all the other formats...this and swim jigs and that's basically it. i mean why even grab for a football jig when the structure jig steps all over it; just runs through all the elements so much better. you mention 1/2 oz from ultra shallow to 20+ down, but i've found myself even running a qtr oz in 10' of water i guess in the same vein as you would a weightless senko; the 1/2oz just darts down to the bottom too quickly...of course punching mats aside. with the exception of punching mats or heavy cover, what's your ideology when it comes to weight sizes and water depths?...similar to what you did with your zona show with kvd on sneaky lake a few yrs back with that jig you murdered it on.
