I admire Riefenstahl's craftmanship, but as for the woman and her motives, that's another matter. It's interesting to hear what she has to say about Marlene, I don't think either liked each other.

Thanks MXtreme and Datacomm, there are photos you've probably seen of Riefenstahl and Dietrich together, but they always seem to have Anna May Wong planted firmly between them. :)

1:21 If Sternberg thought Leni was the complete opposite of Marlene Dietrich then she should taken that as a compliment. I saw a television interview with her daughter talking about her mother Marlene Dietrich. Revealing such as her mother returning home, taking her underwear off telling her daughter to smell it as it was an "important man." And when asked what her father thought of her mother's behavior she said , " Well if you want to have the prestige of being married to Marlene Dietrich you just had to put up with it." Sternbert recognized Leni's higher moral value to say such a thing to her.

Und da hat sie gesagt, dass sie nicht mehr spielt, wenn ich ins Atelier komme. Gut so.

There is no possible comparison between the two, I don't see the point in this video. Leni was serving the Reich, Marlene refused to do it and that's that. Leni isn't remembered as an actress, or maybe by German elderlies...
@theoriginalbadbob5 жыл бұрын
She was a super-star DANCER, then she became a world-famous MOVIE STAR, then she acted in films that she WROTE, PRODUCED, and DIRECTED. Marlene never did anything other than be a great actress and singer.
@alecvillavilla99785 жыл бұрын
@@theoriginalbadbob True but she, Marlene, never even considered working for a mentally unbalanced, appaling, coward, criminal regime like Hitler's. And this will place her hugely above Riefenstahl for good.

You're right, no possible comparison. Leni was one of the most talented and innovative female filmmakers of all time while Marlene was another Hollywood bimbo in the long line of "bombshells".

I did not know that Riefenstahl wanted to be an actress. I thought she did direct movies and wanted to be a Regisseur. Marlene and her are two different and Lightyears aways planets of course.

From some her comments about Deitrich, it seems that Riefenstahl was the catty one. She also had nothing on Dietrich. In the clip of her acting here, Riefenstahl looks like a waitress at the end of her shift, where Marlene was naturally alluring and sensual. If Marlene actually did not want Riefenstahl on the set of The Blue Angel, it may have been because she knew of Riefenstahl's Nazi leanings and not any "jealousy". Jealous of....what? von Sternberg could have lit and coached Riefenstahl to death and she still would have been nowhere near Marlene. Nice try sweetheart, but you're not very credible.
@lottaandgus6 жыл бұрын
@El Jay Perhaps Dietrich didn't want her on the set because Riefenstahl was an asshole.
@lottaandgus6 жыл бұрын
@El Jay Maybe you should do a little research yourself. Start with a book called Dietrich & Riefenstahl-- Hollywood, Berlin and a Century in Two Lives by Karen Wieland.

@lottaandgus5 жыл бұрын
@El Jay Well, it's not "biased," but it does have a well-supported thesis. You don't want to read only books that you agree with, do you? How will you ever learn anything?
