It's unbelievable how well Merlin adapted to coming home with you and George. For what you have shown to us so far, I can tell Merlin is so much more comfortable and happy with everything. He was very skittish at the bird sanctuary and I don't see that anymore. That's so awesome and I'm so happy for Merlin. He sure deserves a good life. Your are awesome people for caring.

My favorite tools for cleaning are my shop vac (vacuum can't handle all the chewed up wood), and a pair of microfiber gloves. Just put them on, run your hands all over the cage, and BAM! Cage is dust free. I also have a steamer which cleans everything without using any cleaners at all. ;-)

Wow, Merlin is doing so well! I am so surprised at how quickly he is integrating into the flock. Maybe he senses that he can trust you and George because there are so many other birds there. He seems to be happy to be there after twenty years with one person and six months with another. Merlin must be upset that he is no longer with his 20 year owner and just when he felt at home, leaving the lady who had him for six months. Poor guy must be confused and worried about the big changes in his life. I'm so glad you and George gave Merlin a good, stable home! God bless you! 💕

Aw, you guys, Merlin looks SO happy!! It makes me almost cry. My african grey Onna was the sweetest baby ever, she was my first parrot and I've wanted another ever since. They greys are just the best! Our eclectus Rocky loves to say "want some?" when hes hungry too haha :D

I would be so interested in seeing how well African Greys could understand Toki Pona, a language only consisting of 120-125 words. I wonder how well they'd be able to communicate. I have a 21 yr. old umbrella cockatoo, and a young sun conure. Finally sold my husband on the idea of getting a yellow naped amazon, but then I see Merlin.........now idk. :( Not many rescues in my area, but we're still looking.

@kogome kittokutsu- I appreciate your concern since I've been working with rescues my whole life, but please reread my comment. I did not, nor would I EVER get rid of my birds just to get a new bird. We're just considering getting a 3rd rescue since we have the time, money, and space to take care of another one. Unfortunately, we're in the mountains in a very rural area. Doesn't seem like there are any rescues willing to travel this far out to do a home visit.

what a sweet grey, he is so adorable eating baby food. My blue crown conure does the same thing, he heard me cooking and start saying "want some" if that doesn't work will go mmmmm then starts all over with "want some" lol I love my darlings my little parakeet sunshine has cancer, but the vet said she healthy and happy it's not time for birdie heaven, she is 8 or 9 years old, and a seed eater, she refuses pellets. I have tried, she will take mouthfuls and throw them out till the bowl is empty if birds can glare lol.

Merlin is gonna be so bold once he fully settles yey. Go Jersey. Meep meep for the little zeebees (zebra finch). Currently Lu my canary has a sore leg, its hot n vet said to put F10 cream on it. I try to keep as much of his routine as possible n then take his cage to a different spot for when I have to catch him to apply it. I want him to know his cage in its NORMAL place is ALWAYS safe. no picky uppy from there. As soon as cream is applied I put him in the big day cage he loves and then give him a few moments to calm n recover then take a treat, as reward. He is very food motivated and I don't want him freaked out by hands. I've been catching him with a cloth and then just holding him in my hand when I appy the cream. we are getting better at it each day. Probiotic in the water to help him manage the stress of it. He is so clever, and gets wise to what is happening very quickly. I reward in the big cage so he has a while to settle down before anything is asked of him. he has freeflight first thing, then food goes into the little cage, so he goes back in, let him eat and settle, then move the cage for the treatment. It has helped before to move the cage for 'vet' stuff. that way he associates the home space as always safe. DO you do this if ur birds need meds u have to apply or as they are all super tame its not such an issue.
