I remember begging my mom to get me a dog when I was 6 years old. I even wrote her a letter listing all the reasons I wanted one, but putting down a dog was certainly not on there. You never think it'll happen until it does and suddenly you're sitting with your dog in the vet's office 10 years later and remember where it all began. A dog really does love you more than they even love themselves. They're not just pets, they really are family, and each one is simply irreplaceable.

I nagged at my dad to get a dog when i was a kid, but all i ever got was just scolding and telling that i'd never do anything with it. THAT'S A FUCKING LIE!!!!! I woudl do ANYTHING in my Power to give my dog Everything it would ever want an more. I'd spoil it rotten with lots of toys and play with it and love it forever. Thanks to this Movie, i'm even more dedicated to have a dog and love it forever, even if i have to buy one myself, because my family are too cheap to buy one as a present for me.

God, tell me about it. I had a little Greyhound for 15 years, and I was on the verge of putting him down. But then me and my ex girlfriend woke up one morning, and he was passed away in his little Doggie bed. I loved him so much, and even now, I can't think about him without losing it. He was like my son, that never grew up. I miss him, a lot.

Dallas Bagley God, i'm sorry about that. I know how you feel. We had dogs about 10 years ago, Eddie & Linus(I live in Sweden, unfortunately) and when we had to let them go, i was so depressed & sad(partially about taht my dad never let me say a proper goodbye, just a Quick hug & off to school), but my family could give a shit about that, they just Went 'Get over it' & never comforted me. I'm still mad at them about it, so, just for some revenge, i'll get 2 rats(they hate rats)

Very true. Your pets will never make fun of you for wearing glasses, braces, and being shy and plain. Every time I watch this movie I make sure I watch it alone as I uncontrollably end up ugly crying not only at this scene but some other ones. Reminds me of my black lab Diesel specifically amongst the other dogs ive had and loved. Having a dog is truly one of the greatest pleasures in the world and the inevitable reality of this scene is the hardest part. Although the heartbreak of them leaving is absolutely horrible, I feel bad for anyone who has not experienced the love a dog has for any human being. We adopted him when I was six, so he accompanied me throughout my childhood and my adolescence. That morning, I had a violin concert, so my friend and I were getting ready to go. When my friend left the house, he called him but he was on the ground, not moving. He wasn’t there anymore. This happened half an hour before the concert. I just read a post on FB of a vet saying the hardest part of their job is when they put a pet down, and the owners choose not to be in the room with them. Because the scared pet looks for them for comfort in their last moments. The pet doesn’t know what’s going on. They’re in a room full of strangers in a place they hate, and they look for you to make them feel safe before they pass. I’m a coward, but I don’t want my baby’s last moments on earth to be spent scared and alone, she deserves better.

I feel you, friend. I lost my babygirl to a dog just under a decade ago, and I'm still messed up from it. To have a being who so loves you, who so looks to you for their well-being, it's very hard to move forward. I don't blame the dog, though I DID for about a year, but that's just instinct. If dogs ran by human logic, I wouldn't even have been an issue.

it's better for the dogs in a way. They get to have their friend and leader for their entire life, and never have need or cause to worry about being alone(assuming their master is a good, or even decent person). Dogs need people in human civilization to help them through lifein man's world, just like once upon an eon, man needed dogs to help them survive the many trials of living in nature. On Christmas we d give her presents wrapped up, she loved opening them lol. We can never replace her and we re not trying to, but we are going to get another dog soon. she wouldn't want us to be so upset over her death, just like I wouldn't want anyone upset over mine. its hard but you can never plan death. I only recently had to have my dog of 11 years put to sleep (2 days ago typing this) he seemed fine even the night before, happy even, however he took a worse turn than any of my family could have imagined. He wasn't willing to get up and move from where he was laying initially and every time he did get up he would only walk a little bit before needing to lay down and refuse to move again, we made an emergency appointment with the vets and we had to carry him to and from the truck. I had to sit with him on my lap because I was afraid I wouldn't be able to pick him up again if I let him lay on the floor even though it was seemingly more uncomfortable for him. We waited about 20 minutes for the vet to be able to see Alfie (My dog) and in that time he was just about able to lift his head up to see the comings and goings of pets in and out of the vets. We were finally able to see the vet and after a small check-up she was already fairly sure he had internal bleeding and a possible tumour in his belly, she wanted us to leave Alfie with her so she could do a blood test and ultrasound and so he could be put on a drip for some comfort. We waited about 3ish hours before we heard the worst, she had confirmed that he had a tumour and internal bleed, which after clearing out some of the fluid she deemed to be old blood indicating he had been suffering for a little while now. It was at this time the vet offered us 2 options, she could attempt a high risk surgery to remove the tumour and stop the bleeding, Or we could put him to sleep and allow everyone to be there with him as he passes. There isn't really a chocie there, so at 4pm all my brothers and my dad came home from work/their own homes to say goodbye and hold the most loyal and loving friend as he goes to sleep for the final time. We were all already emotional (This was the first time I had ever even heard my dad shed a tear, let alone actually see him crying) as we waited to be able to see Alfie. The vet pulled us into the same room I had to leave him in from the morning. She was able to have Alfie stretchered in to the room and as the door opened and Alfie saw us, his eyes lit up, his tail started wagging and he started to pant the way he used to when he was excited. We all got to hug and kiss him for the last time as the Vet gave him the shot. I held him as he passed from this world. For those of you who read this, please give your furry friend(s) an extra tight hug tonight in honour of Alfie, the sweetest black Labrador to ever enter my life. I grew up with him and now I have to learn to live without him. R.I.P. Alfie 3-10-2011 - 13-12-2022

The Rainbow Bridge Just this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge. When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge. There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together. There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable. All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor. Those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by. The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind. They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent. His eager body quivers. Suddenly he begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster. You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart. Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together.

Apart, from family members, losing any pet is one of the most emotionally painful things I think anyone could go through. The problem with humans is they have flaws, they can speak to you. A dog can’t speak to you, can’t hurt your feelings for very long. Over years, you form such an emotional bond with something that can’t even say it loves you, and it’s scarring. I lost my dog just over a year ago under very tragic circumstances which I wasn’t ready for. I was her primary caregiver, and was about to make her breakfast, and she just wasn’t there anymore. She had died in the early morning hours, when I was still awake. Even compared to everything else that has happened in my life, that is definitely the most emotionally painful thing I have ever had to endure. This scene is the perfect understanding of what it’s like to lose Man’s Best Friend.

I stood by your bed last night I came to have a peep I could see that you’d been crying and you found it hard to sleep I whined to you softly as you brushed away a tear “It’s me. I haven’t left you. I’m well, I’m fine, I’m here” I was close to you at breakfast I watched you pour your tea You were thinking of the many times your hands reached down to touch me. I was with you at my grave today you tend to it with such care I want to reassure you that I’m not lying there I walked you towards the house as you fumbled for the key I gently put my paw on you I smiled and said “It’s me” You looked so tired as you sank into your chair I tried so hard to let you know that I was sitting there It’s wonderful for me to be so near you everyday To say to you with certainty “I never went away” You sat there quietly, Then smiled I think you knew that in the stillness of the evening I was very close to you And when the time is right for you to cross the brief divide I’ll rush across to meet you and we’ll stand there side by side I have so many things to show you There’s so much more for you to see Be patient Life your journey out Then come home to be with me In loving memory of shadow

Watching this is so emotional. We lost our golden retriever 3.5 weeks ago to a brain tumor. Marley at least got a long life, my dog only had 9.5 years, and passed in 12 hours 😢 💔

Yesterday we had to put our dog down. His name was axel. Axel you will always be my first dog. When people ask me what my first dog was I will always say it was you. You loved kids, you loved people, you loved the attention and when you walked into a room with people in it your tail would go into overdrive. Your farts were killers and the way you nibbled on anything when you were comfortable, had people's heart melt. The day at the vet you were nervous, and we felt really bad. The cancer had made you blind and deaf so you were always nervous and afraid. We knew when it was time when you couldn't walk. We know your day was now and it broke our hearts. Momma held you when you slipped away and I cried right beside her, I know you're not in pain anymore and that you'll be waiting for us when its our time. I hope you can see again and you have other puppies to play with. I miss you axel, your family misses you.

I’m crying too. My dog is starting to get to the point that she can’t walk either. I had to hold her last night so she could eat and drink. It’s very sad witnessing all this.

This scene perfectly just sums up what it's like to say goodbye to your Dog. We just had to put my dog of fourteen years to sleep and this moment perfectly encapsulates what it's like to stroke your best friend one last time, remembering and appreciating how they've changed your life for the better. RIP Meg, you were the best dog a boy like me could ask for.

I’m a grown man and I watched this on a whim a couple nights ago with my 10 year old dog that I’ve raised since birth laying on the couch with me. I thought it was gonna be just another comedy but this scene caught me off guard. I’m about as stone faced as they come but I felt a tear run down my cheek.

My yellow Labrador Dylan passed away age 13 on Feb 20th 2016 on his sofa I have never felt such pain in my life. I got him when I was 15 and I'm now a mother of 3, but it doesn't make it easier, he was my boy, my son and I will always love him. I hope we will meet again one day, God how I miss him 😥

I remember watching this scene with my dog when she was just a puppy when this movie came out. It sounds morbid, but i remember watching this scene and thinking i'd have to go through that with her one day. 12 years later i just lived through it. She was the best dog.

God, I remember when my dog Ollie died when I was 9. I knew him my whole life and I was the one to see him pass away by the staircase when I came down to get a drink of hot chocolate. He was killed by a tumar and as a 9 year old I called my parents and we sat there comforting him in his last hour of his life before he closed his eyes and never opened them again on my dad's lap. He was such a loyal, family dog. Rest In Piece Ollie

It doesn't matter how many times i Watch this wonderful Movie(screew the rip-off what's-the-name) and whenever this scene comes up, i fail at trying to be tough, especially infront of my family, i bawl my Eyes out. Owen Wilson really delivered in this scene. When i get a dog, i'm gonna name it Marley, Eddie or Linus(2 dogs we had when i was a kid, that we lost over 10 years ago, and it still hurts to this day that i never got to say a proper goodbye that day they left us, thanks to my dad thinking that school is more important than being at home grieving and giving a PROPER goodbye)

We adopted our dog in 2008, 2009 this was out on DVD and I remember crying while watching it. Crying because I couldn't imagine the day my boy would be old or sick and would need me to be strong, I couldn't imagine all the time that would pass in the blink of an eye and the one day. I'm now waking up each day and I'm missing the most amazing dog in the world. My boy was put to sleep last week and I miss him so very much. 13.5 years is a long life, but it went by entirely too fast.
