Love how Hickock gets older, he gets into more detail about the firearm and the details and accessories he uses! Love how he mentioned Limbsavers, as a bow hunter, appreciate that! Not too many firearm owners know how productive their products are for firearms as well as Bows! He made a point, at 8:01, the price of the rifle is over 1 thousand dollars, but they are lighter, under Ruger Manufacturing.

Thanks, but the older Marlin is the Cowboy model with the octagonal barrel, plus it's a longer barrel. I would imagine the old Marlin models with the exact same barrel configuration would weigh the same as the new Ruger Marlin.

These small lever actions are great. I have a Winchester Model 94AE Trapper in .44 mag with a 16" barrel. It is a wonderful deer rifle for hunting the thick woods in Northern Minnesota. I have taken many deer with it. Most of the shooting is within 30 yards. However, the most recent buck was knocked down at 80 paces. I am 6'6" with a long stride. The little lever can be easily carried all day long. Thanks for sharing the Marlin.

One of the last firearms I purchased over the years was a lever Henry Steel in .38/.357. That gun has given me many hours of shooting pleasure, not to mention reasonable cost and high availability of ammo and reloading components, the wide range of applications from target shooting, to hunting, to self-defense, and the simplicity and reliability of a quality lever action. It appears that lever action rifles are here to stay, and growing in popularity.

You are correct there on the rising popularity. Three weeks back (3/09/24) I went to the huge Fort Worth gun show, was there during the first half hour of it opening with the aim of getting one of the Ruger/Marlin 1894s in 357. I found the only one in the whole show & walked out $1100 lighter but very happy. Saw only one other of the new 336s but that lady was asking $1500. Based on the number of folks walking around with lever guns I’ll bet she got what she was asking. There were levers all over, I’d say almost 1:1 with the proliferation of black guns, all at way higher prices than I used to see. But I’m happy to see it. They are the handiest type of long gun & uniquely American
@vernsquash8883
@vernsquash8883 7 ай бұрын
@@cvisenti That is very interesting to hear about all of the lever actions at the gun show. A few other advantages that I did not mention was ease of maintenance and handling safety when compared to the AR-15 type semi-auto's. Those who put a high value on magazine capacity will of course favor the AR-15, and many of us have both. Consider the rich Henry line of .38/.357's, now with both side-gate and tubular loading (I favor), and in all-weather stainless steel.
@cvisenti
@cvisenti 7 ай бұрын
@@vernsquash8883 yessir. I’m gearing up next to get a color case hardened Henry in 30-30 or perhaps the all weather. I’ve shot a lot with my 1952 Marlin 336C & seen deer & hogs go down as if pole axed using those Barnes TSX bullets. I’d trust that performance on anything that walks this continent, and I own several high end bolt actions too in .270, 30-06, 300WM, 243. But the performance in the field with Barnes TSX bullets out of that 30-30 has cemented it for me as capable of anything you ask of it. I’ve clobbered some massive wild hogs. Going to start interchanging it with the new SBL Marlin 1895 Guide Gun 45-70 I got last year to see how that does. Obviously I know it packs the punch, but it’ll have to really impress to supplant that 30-30.
@vernsquash8883
@vernsquash8883 7 ай бұрын
@@cvisenti Hear, hear! Many who don't hunt wild game or read hunter's testimonies, do not realize how effective a well placed .30 caliber bullet can be even at modest .30-30 velocities. I load the 158-gr. .357 Hornady XTP FP over 15-gr. of H-110 for my Henry, and that nearly matches the energy level of the .30-30. One thing to watch for if you are a reloader, is that some jacketed bullets (especially copper plated) are not designed for velocities, over say, 1400fps, and will leave copper fouling in the barrel. Hornady, for example, puts the max velocity on the box, but others do not.

Lever guns are fun and useful for hunting. Semi-autos are for civil defense against criminals, most of all, criminals in office. People buy based on needs, hence the semi-autos of late.

My dad gave me an 1894 in .44 Mag for Christmas back in ~ 1976 and I scoped it and have taken a number of deer over the years with it. I passed it on down to our oldest son for his 30th birthday several years back but not before our youngest son took his first deer (8 pointer) with it. Marlin really knew how to make a quality gun. I have bought two lever guns to fill the lever gap in my life: both Henry guns - a .357/.38 and a 45/70.

Really glad Ruger has brought the 1894 back. I own 3 original 1894 Marlins in in 357, 44 mag and 45 LC, but the 44 mag has the 1/38 inch twist in a Micro Groove barrel that isn't the best for heavy, above 265 grain, and cast bullets. I may have to add the new Ruger/Marlin with the 1/20 inch twist standard rifling for heavy cast bullet shooting.

I bought one last year. Front sight came loose in less than 50 rounds. The dovetail fell out when I removed the sight hood to check it. It would not properly eject and failed to eject using factory magnum ammo. The screw retaining the loading gate worked loose and nearly fell out causing a couple cartridges to pop out the side during a shooting session. I then checked and found all the receiver screws not properly torqued. This was a pity for such a nice looking little rifle straight from the factory. I elected not to return it to Ruger. I replaced the sights with XS sights, tuned the extractor hook and blue loctited all the receiver screws. It now is a good shooter and is plenty accurate with heavier bullets. It did not shoot lighter bullets accurately, but I only actually tried one brand of 200g bullet. It loves Sierra 240g jacketed soft points and hollow points.

Love them both, thousands of rounds thru them and very accurate BUT they use the top location sliding bolt receiver top, if you want to mount a scope it has to be an extended eye relief model mounted in the scout position. I have a Browning 92 in 44 mag great shooting rifle. The answer to your question is if it functions correctly its a Ruger

yea the Winchester 94 does not like shorter cartridges it is a longer action made for the .30-.30 but the Rossi puma model 92 and the marlin 1894 seem to love specials and shoot them fine, so use these guns for traditional cowboy shoots, I want a Marlin 1894 trapper to go with my Rossi Puma 16 inch to fill out my cowboy lever gun cabinet, and I want them both with the big loop for leather gloves ALA John Wayne!

Apparently they’re offering in .357 Magnum/ .38 Special now too. Tim at Military Arms Channel posted a video with one.

I just wish they would have finally removed the cross bolt safety, or at least offer it as some sub model "1894 Classic" Or some such.

Still has half cock. Super easy to do a safety delete for the cross bolt safety and it only cost $20

Nobody "took over." My son John does a video every now and then, but in all these years, he's probably never done two in a row. Is THAT who you mean, or are you confusing our videos maybe with somebody else's videos?

Glad I caught this. I have a brand new 1894 Classic .44 coming this next week! Can't wait to get my hands on it. I chose the classic to get the 1:20 twist so I can shoot heavier bullets. I have also been researching peep sights. Skinner is on my list but I also just watched a video with George from Target Suite on the Ranger Point Precision fiber optic front and rear peep set up. Any suggestions on sight set ups or combos? I do like fiber optic but will a brass or gold bead front work just as well with the Skinner? Maybe a fiber optic with a skinner? Thanks for another great video. I was excited to see the new Marlin putting rounds down range.

Hey Hickok how about a Sgt Rock episode of the weapons he used in the comics.The classic Rock was usually dressed in olive drab fatigues, with a .45-caliber M1A1 Thompson submachine gun (although sometimes he is shown using an M50 Reising instead) and .45-caliber Colt M1911A1 semi-automatic pistol as his armament. Oddly, the classic artwork almost always depicts Rock with an M1 Garand cartridge belt which would be useless to him, as well as two belts of .50-caliber ammunition (drawn as .30 caliber fabric belted for M1917 Browning machine gun), which Rock considers lucky charms. Artists John Severin and Russ Heath sometimes attempted a more realistic portrayal of Rock's equipment, but the .50-caliber ammunition remained a personal trademark. Rock is always shown with a number of hand grenades secured to his equipment.
