Bantamweight might just be the best or at least most interesting division in the game right now. Not only is there a ton of talent but such a variety of styles and skills and size. I thought Yan was going to beat Aljo and had a shot at a decent title reign but depending on the matchups I could see that belt swithching hands a lot the next couple years

All due respect to vera and his victory, by capitalizing on a hole in Dominick's game, however to claim that Cruz's MMA style is "low level" is a false assessment and brash statement. Dom is way past his prime and much older now thus resulting in his style not working for him due to age, however he is a pioneer in MMA and pioneered a style, movements and techniques that will be used in MMA for many years to come, something that chito will possibly never be able to do.

@THERE WAS NO CHECK!!! I don’t think there’s much of an argument for saying (arguably) the greatest bantamweight to ever compete has a “low level” style. It was ahead of its time. He had such an edge on the rest of the division that even with years between fights due to serious injuries he would come back and win. Age caught up to him. He has slowed. He’s almost 40. Chito is in his 20s. Doesn’t mean Dom should ever be mentioned with low level. Cruz in his athletic prime would still be whooping a lot of these dudes.

Cruzs style always looked bad to me coming from a boxing background. He just seems to dip his head and wing punches. I would think that's even more dangerous in mma because knees are more powerful and easier to land than uppercuts. He reminds me of Joseph benavidez

Go back and watch almost all of his fights. He isn’t really getting out classed, its his fighting style to kinda see what his opponents has in power and strategy. Like he is downloading info and then he just goes. The one time he failed at it was against Aldo who just OG’d him in the strategy. Patience is the key to life, weigh your options and chose accordingly.. would you rather feel good now or would you rather just wait it out and get a better outcome later in life. Chito is a smart man, he weighed his options and didn’t think the risk of going for the finish with the possibility of not getting it and draining himself with four more rounds wasn’t worth it. He knew it’d come around and it worked out great. Even though I respect Cruz so dam much for what he’s done in the sport, he’s been doing the same things with footwork and head movements and it’s been biting him in the ass. Chito can’t be patient like that with the rest of the top five guys.. he can’t be giving these top of the food chain fighters the early round because he’s starting slow and being patient. Those couple rounds will cost him if he can’t finish the fight.

He identified Don’s vulnerability on that right side early on. Whenever he would pause his movement he was open to the left hook from Chito. Dominick is a legend and looked amazing; fast, aggressive, fit. But today’s fighters are too technical and well-informed on what he does to be overwhelmed by it like they used to. The division is also more powerful, which is supported by clean technique. I felt awful for him, but Chito is on the rise and the real deal.

Low level style? Cruz was outstriking vera for a good chunk of the fight until vera found the opening. Cruz's style is good but he's old now (37) and is clearly at the end of the line. He's looked good in his past few fights but he's just that good, but has definitely fallen off with age.

None of those shots was doing anything to vera and cruz was getting dropped left and right. vera is right about cruz's style being not as good as people think. When cruz dominated the division most of the people in that weightclass was just wrestlers with an overhand, but now that most of this division's striking has evolved fighters can now take advantage of the fact that because of dom's way of fighting he generates little power from his shots and although he has good head movement if he gets caught by any of the good strikers in this weightclass then he is going down and vera probably knew that with his constant movement dominic he is going to be tired and isn't going to be as sharp with his movement in the later rounds. Honestly you could see the knockout coming

Just like Roy Jones Jr., when Dom was in his prime nobody touches him. Nobody figured out Dom's style, Dom had to get older, beat up his body to slow down a bit to be hitable. Exactly like Roy Jones...Exactly. Dom is the greatest banatamweight of all time. The fact he can move the way he does at 37 is a testament of the shape he brings into the octagon still.

To me it looked like dom was very tense and tight in the start of the fight. His pace was to high at the start of the fight also. Theres no threat of his take downs also. He doesn't get any ground and pound off or submission attempts. He also just let's them right back up.
