Sucks that Rhaella had to suffer in that terrible marriage. She deserved better. Literally the only terrible thing that Jaehaerys ii did. Aerys may have even been a decent king if he was willing to listen to Tywin and not let his pride lead down the path to madness.

It's a tragedy really.

To keep the line pure-ish, a possibility could’ve been: 1. Rhaella Targaryen betrothed to Steffon Baratheon-especially good since Steffon is half-Targaryen. 2. Aerys Targaryen betrothed to Joanna Lannister. This would’ve brought forth more Targaryen births and thus more prospects for intermarriage in the next generation - which would strengthen the line and expand the family.

Jaehaerys married his own sister, breaking the marriage pacts with houses Tyrell and Tully, which infuriated both houses and left his dad Aegon V to deal with the mess. You may think it's only bad, but given how it went when his brother Duncan did the same with the Baratheons, it's either terrible, or a hairs' breath from it.
@lukebarroso4493 ай бұрын
@@tatalsaba All of them screwed up their marriage pacts. Kinda funny since their dad married for love and his children pretty much did the exact same. Would've been interesting if they went with the arrangements.
@tatalsaba3 ай бұрын
@@lukebarroso449 Yeah the irony, but where Aegon V was far down the succession at the time (about fifth after Aerys who could still have kids, and with two living and married elder brothers, and one unmarried to pass on the line), no one really saw a problem with him marrying a house with non valyrian blood like house Blackwood (except the Brackens). But with Aegon V's kids, it's the first through fourth in line for the throne who breaks their vows and to major houses no less (Except for house Redwyne, but since they're still insanely rich and influential with trade and the biggest westerosi fleet they might as well be). The whole brood screwed up majorly, except Rhaelle, who did as she was told (must be the white sheep of the family)

I wonder if anyone stopped to think that perhaps the prophecy was about both of their lines, as in marrying someone else and then their descendants Marrying each other. I do also wonder why Aegon V allowed the marriage in the first place, as he was the head of the house and the two clearly did not desire this.
@adaroez3 ай бұрын
Aegon V believed in prohecies and thus he allowed the marriage of his grandchildren. Its due to the woods witch, who told Jahaerys that from the line of his children Azor Ahai reborn would come again.
@prophetchosen8623 ай бұрын
@@adaroez 1. I referenced said prophecy in my comment 2. Aegon also believed in his family’s happiness as shown by his actions with his children. Aegon also did not adhere very much to the incestuos practices of his ancestors, shown by not marrying his sisters and marrying his Blackwood bride out of love, and his distaste with Jaehaerys II and Saera’s marriage.

So if king Jaehaerys wanted to fulfill the prophecy couldn't he just have married Aerys and Rhaella to others and then marry the children from those marriages later?

i mean that would make sense if you ask me and is something i have thought about. The issue is unless we learn more about the specifics of the prophecy at some point we can't know for sure

I love your videos so much, man. You make the lore very interesting even though you’re just stating the facts of the text, you’re a good narrator and you add just enough embellishment and commentary, trim the right fat from the text, and rearrange stuff a little bit to make it more comprehensible, I just really like your videos. I have watched I think every single one and a lot of them a second or third time because the lore is dense and it’s a little easier to understand and actually remember the timeline by watching your videos than it is for me to re listen to the audiobook, which is how I have fire and blood. Anyways great job!! Keep it up. 😊

It may be a controversial theory, but if you plug in the idea that Tywin Lannister was sterile and Cersei, Jamie, and Tyrion were the bastard issue of Aerys II and Johanna Lannister, it will definitely change how you see this era of Westerosi history as well as what followed. The other theory to factor in has to do with the dragon skulls. I believe (as do others) that the third head of the dragon is a sacrificed human soul, albeit one that doesn't contain the consciousness of the deceased. This soul doesn't depart the head of the dragon when it dies (provided the skull remains intact), and can observe and influence events to a degree.
