Maybe I did the math wrong but $380k coast fire at age 39, 7% growth doesn't work. 10% with 3% inflation meets her expected 1.5 mil at age 60.

She says she is a CFP but she has a financial planner for her retirement accounts? Also, she says she's 80/20 in funds and that is aggressive for her age? Does she get alimony? What other income streams does she have currently? How is she supporting 3 kids as a single mom? Personally, for me, $380k at 39 is not enough without factoring inflation, kids going to college, etc. I would still be contributing, instead of coasting. She also talks about priorities in life, seems to me that one of her main priorities is making 'herself' happy.

It's hard to pour from an empty cup. I applaud Kathryn for taking care of herself and ensuring she is financially and emotionally strong. Also, it's not a small thing to bare your soul on the internet so try your best to realize that. I'm glad you saw important differences in your specific approach. That's the goal of these interviews. To learn from others' plans, see what you appreciate about those plans and how you might do it differently.

@@MarriageKidsandMoney This was not an attack on her. She has been through a lot and should do what makes her happy. Love your positivity in trying to educate others. Financial literacy is such an important aspect of life that is not taught.

@@brandoncheah3954 I appreciate your response and thoughtful dialogue. I've been a fan and friend of Kathryn for years and I'm quick to support her. I'm excited about this new chapter in her life. I believe I can improve these interviews by asking more detailed questions as I see that becomes important for viewers to learn more. I would encourage you to connect with Kathryn on her website as she has so graciously opened up her life for others to learn as well -- www.makingyourmoneymatter.com/about/

Real return of 7% is not conservative at all.. given today's valuations I would estimate 2-3% real over the next 20 years... assuming 5-6% nominal with 3% inflation

$380K invested by age 40 to coast fire? Is a 7% rate of return after adjusting for inflation considered conservative? If so I'm ultra conservative because I'm using 2-3% for my estimates. That said, if I fo get 7% and can retire early then that's a nice bonus.

2-3% is extremely conservative. Average return is 10%+.

I would say 2-3% is unrealistically low unless you're in some bad funds.

WTF 2-3%.? I'm ultra conservative and I use 4.25-4.50%
