Your sweet face during that entire song was precious. Your whole demeanor told it all. You are someone who knows.. A guy who loves his family. My hubby and I were also 15 and 16 when we met. He was my first and only . The sweetest man I ever had the privilege of loving. We had almost 40 years together before he went home to heaven. He was 57 and I was 56. Gone too soon. Never thought I’d walk this earth without him. He was my rock. Three kids and 9 grandkids. Gorgeous song. Pretty much says it all ❤️

@denise Glenn I’m so sorry for your loss. Me and my husband was 17 when we met and we’ve been together 23 years. We do everything together we work in the same place we shop together and I just couldn’t imagine not having him. I almost died twice…I spent 2yrs off and on in the hospital and this man didn’t leave my side through it all. He went through a lot and after I came home I had to have 24hr care. It was rough on him but he never once complained. I would’ve never survived without him.

I’ve been married for 34 years now, our hair is grey, our kids are out on their own growing their families…. I always fell like getting up to kiss and dance with my wife listening to this song before all of that goes away… we cry our hearts out, but at the same time our hearts swell with love and a touch of pride… in the beginning all we had was us against the world, and now at the end of all this … it’s the same way, just us.

This song really is a weeper for sure. My man & I were married at 16 & 18, had our 61st anniversary in April. We're really starting to realize that time passes faster with each year that goes by. Now, it sure is flying! We've been very happy, & blessed with two great kids also. Have had many wonderful years, with a few inevitable heartbreaks along the way. I pray it will let us down gently at the end...lol.

I can only imagine this song makes me cry nearly every time I'm only 24 but I look back at even just the past five years and so much happened, and yet in the moment it feels like not much has happened like it flew on by. I can only hope to be with someone for even half that time not much luck though never had a relationship and I'm sure almost no one wants to be around someone who's awkward and nervous. This song just brings back memories and make me feel like I've lived longer than I have some people say life is short and while that may be true it feels pretty long to me. So much can happen in just a few years let alone decades+ I'm glad you've had many wonderful years a lot of people don't get that hope you have many more. I keep thinking about the day I'll lose my parents from time to time it's a natural part of life, but I know it will hit hard I feel it I fear it will hit harder than I expect though.

@@Chrisimplayer I do remember how "in the moment" we live our lives when we are young, which is where you are now. I pray you will find that special someone at the exact right time in your life, so don't lose heart. Neither my husband nor I were popular kids, just happened to love the same things. You will also likely lose your parents, but maybe not for many years, and you will find the strength you need then. Live is full of fearful, wonderful, sad, happy stuff- live YOUR life & don't forget to count your blessings! God love you~

This may not be the most beautiful song ever written, but it's in the argument. From the instruments to the backing vocals to the lyrics. Oh, and that pedal steel solo right in the middle. This song really encapsulates the very best of pure country music. I am not the biggest Alan Jackson fan, but this song right here is one of the best.

I know this song is about Alan's life with his lovely Wife but, it could as easily covered mine with my lovely Wife of 52 years now. We raised 8 kids together, all grown now, been through hell in sandels drinking gasoline. Through it all, we never left each others side. She is absolutely the very best thing to ever enter my life. I love her more than life itself. It's kinda funny Alan and Wife even kinda looks like us. I'm 6'2" and she is 5'2" and I've worn a cowboy hat for decades now.

My husband and I met when he was just 20 and I was 21. We are grey now. We have a daughter who is 37 and a son 25 and grandkids. He has brain cancer. I have my own health issues. I know when he passes, this will be a song I play at his funeral (hopefully mine of I go first). I remember crying when I turned 25 that I was old and too close to being 30 then I liked to be. Now I’m closer to 60 and I miss our little house we bought when we were just 23. I miss the time we thought we could till you our yard and plant sod till an elderly neighbor man laughingly came over to show us the right way. Trial and error. That’s life. The mistakes. Mismanagement of life and fixing them again. We still learn from mistakes and watch our kids make many of the same. It’s life. And I’d do it all again.

I love this song I play it when I am out in the shop after working on the truck or the cars it makes my mind play back like movie the kids and now the grandkids. The hard times the good times the Kids growing up the moving out to start their own lives I though it would be great we have the house to ourselves but it was strange the house felt empty took a long time to get use to and most of all I missed them. I look at my wife across the driveway working on the garden I just smile and think Alan your right I would do it all again wouldn't change thing. I have had a great life and I am content with what we have and what been through made us stronger.

Thanks my friend for your generous reaction, plus the dapper Cap which in Philly we called a Jeff. He told our story, where ever we come from. The joys, the struggles. The lives that come and go. If we were only aware of how important those small times were. How they created the sum of our lives. There are some who were aware I suppose, however I was not one of them. I see it now. I wish there would be a way to pass that wisdom on however the next generation knows it all, as as we did. So you can only softly tell your story and hope they listen. Peace

hey, you can't be stopping the flow of the song just because you feel them tears about to start coming out ;-)

Aye man, i know you’ll probably never see this… but your openness to different sounds & vulnerability of emotion you display from connecting to it all for yourself but also for your following is very commendable. My favorite out there right now. Thank you. Tis’ a beacon of hope. One love.

Thank you for doing this song. It is very special to me. My hubby and I had 51 loving years before he passed away. And this song reminds me of all of them.

My wife and I always set on same side of the table when we go out. We don't set across from one another. Back in day we had an older couple pay for our dinner. They said we brought them back to a time when they were young. That most people today over and over set across from each other.
