"I design from a place of feeling."
Designer Sherry Kobashigawa's career began in set design, which explains her drive to encorporate storytelling into the elements of her creative process. Kobashigawa joined the team at Le Méridien Salt Lake City Downtown after construction was already underway.
Nevertheless, she got to work and designed the hotel, including Parisien and Mid-century influences that meet at the intersection of the story, the landscape and the building itself.
Inspired by the mountains and the setting of Salt Lake City, Kobashigawa drew upon the grid system the city was built on to inspire the art and textiles to bring it all together. "We wanted to tie in this notion of found items as well as the element of travel." It was the spirit of the golden age of travel that brought the story to life in a way that helped everything fall into place.
"It's a story of joie de vivre."
