Today, AD joins interior designer Ross Cassidy in Paris’ largest flea market, Marché aux Puces de Paris Saint-Ouen, as he hunts for special pieces to fill his client’s home. Covering 20 acres and with over 1,700 vendors, navigating a flea market like this might seem a daunting task for many. From knowing when you’ve found a bargain to distinguishing real designer items from replicas, follow Ross as he shows you how to find treasure like a pro.

Parisian here : this is not what we'd call a "flea market", which are more like garage sales. These are (obviously) professional antique/vintage designers boutiques whose clientele are wealthy people/luxury hotels, etc... In short : you don't go there to try and find something cheap and cute for you appartment. You go there, freak out when you see the price tags, and leave pretty soon after to go to a nicer part of town because the area is shady.

@@mizzlopez5660 Well, the « puces de Saint Ouen » (the name of the place they’re at) are still worth visiting if you love design, it’s like going to the biggest open-air museum, you could easily spend a day there without even seeing it all, like a little adventure. But again : bargains are really hard to come by (especially when you’re a tourist) and the vicinity isn’t the best.

The Murano chandelier is stunning but I gasped when saw it installed....way too dinky for the space (should've had more lateral width) and put way too close to the ceiling to have an impact- at least lower it so the light filters through it more. Such a shame.
@penelopesparrow
@penelopesparrow Ай бұрын
The chandelier is deeeevine, but it's lost all the way up there. For a 4 year search she could've had something made! The statement 'I don't want something new bc the space needs age'; but there's no sense of age to that piece. I suspect they wanted vintage so they could resell it later when something better comes along. A lot of red flags here that this is more about status than the object - enormously inflated prices, the attitude when they went to the 'more touristy' part, paying 300 for a FAKE biot while a real one is a third of the price online.... these guys either only see value with a name and a 3 figure price, or its PR for the market. As a vintage dealer myself I'd love to go there just to learn, but I'd end up quickly bored bc I couldn't buy anything - its all 3 times the market value and I buy to invest, not collect. If I want to collect, I buy handmade.

The chandelier is beautiful and a great size for the size of the room, if the ceilings weren't that large. The super high ceilings also make the whole room feel smaller, as it's so vertical. Not really an interior design problem, but a common rich-north-american architecture problem. Could maybe have been fixed interior by putting in some beams at the height below the high windows and above the terrace doors.
