As time went by, Skhu started choosing his own path. Even though his Ma would have liked that he chose their path, he changed to a charismatic church. And that's where he first got married. When I met him, he had already been in the charismatic church set up for years. As for me - I appreciate how Ma brought us up. It made me who I am. But there are certain things that I didn't believe in. Things I didn't agree with in the church. But I was stuck. As long as I was in my mom's house, it was very clear that I will go to her church. There were no negotiations. You would come to understand that I'm scared of Ma. I find it difficult to challenge her. And she would always manipulate me in thinking this would bring shame to the family. But I knew the minute I was out of the house, perhaps I should say married, I was gone! And I'll be honest that moving to Johannesburg helped. The expectation from Ma was that I will continue attending her church, with Skhu. We do visit when we're home but that's about it. Nothing more, nothing less. She often brings up the debate of why we don't find a similar church in Johannesburg because "ezicawa zenu azinamfundiso". These churches don't have good teachings because they allow to wear pants in the house of the Lord. When it was time to choose our own church, for our family, we didn't find it difficult. We attend a charismatic church. Yes, we differ when it comes to the value of the teaching, from one church to another, but overall the principle is the same for both of us.

I also grew up in Z.C.C nam yaz( my dad was umfundisi omkhulu walapha eBhayi) but ke after he passed away then mama she decided kutshintshwe icawa sakhonza Seventh Days Church. As time went by I started choosing my own path nam ndabashiya pha Seventh Days.

I loved this video. I always say to my friends and family, I hope your version of God or beliefs is not based on someone else's experience or version. I was born from a Christian home where rituals were not practiced until umzali wam wathwasa, it was so hard adapting to the change however what I loved about mom is that she respected how she initially raised us and what we wanted. Sasingadli kwa ukudla okwenzwe for umncimbi until I learnt what I needed to learn and experienced it myself. Right now I am a firm believer of Christ and a believer of amasiko/ traditions. I have always known and believed that I would not marry someone who isn’t umzalwane for the following reasons: 1. The word of God advices us not to be equally yoked with non-believers 2. I can compromise for anything except my belief in Christ, not for my family, not for a husband and definitely not for in-laws 3. For my kids’ sake…not to be torn between different believe systems 4. I see the effects of it through my parents…honestly, one has to bow to another.
@malethaboskhosana20013 жыл бұрын
Me is you sis. I cannot compromise my relationship with Christ for anyone in this world. Not even my own family members. At the end of the day everything is spiritual and everything has a meaning and connected to something. We can't just do things for the sake of doing them. We are spirit beings.

I am married to Zimbabwean Ndebele and I am Xhosa. It's very true Nozi and Skhu. Do some research about the family you are marrying into. Someone said to me you only spend at most 10 days with your inlaws in a year and so make it count. Be willing and give it your best shot don't be wanting things that are not there and sokolising this husband. Great vedio like always.

How is that going for you? I am a Zim Shona girl and my partner is a SAn Tswana man. We are going to meet each other’s family in December hopefully covid will be contained. but I still feel like what if they treat me differently to how he thinks they will as the two countries cultures are different. Or upbringings are worlds apart.

Interesting topic. I have not been exposed to any rituals until I got married. I'm understanding and attend whatever I'm expected to attend as a makoti but that's about it. Hubby and I go to a church that we've both chosen and raising our kids the way we've decided to, which is very different to how we were both raised.

The highlight is when an important message is being given by either of you, I have observed that you let the other person express his or herself. And High quality attention is given. Jokes are put aside for the real business to take place. Later, laughter and teases continues after the business has been settled. I admire you two!

My partner was born in a Hindu family and am a Christian (SDA). Growing up in church, I found it difficult dating a fellow adventist because of the church guys expectations (which family I came from, what I did for a living, the qualifications I had "academically" the list goes on. Mind you i didn't have anything I mentioned above and more because I am from an unprivilleged family. Nobody proposed me for a very long time and I felt like everyone knew that I didn't have the qualifications required by the church guys😭 mind you time was also ticking, my agemates were married and those younger than me were also being taken phambi kwam. I was so depressed but nobody knew. Years went by and in 2019 I met my current partner after so many years of being single, this guy did everything I expected from a man and he is still doing it but the fact that we don't believe in the same thing makes it so hard coz everything feels so wrong "remember as Christian am not supposed to be equally yoked😭" and it kills me everyday.
