In this clip, Curiosity finds a piece of plastic leftover from it's landing on Mars in 2012. It's thought to be a flake of shrink-tube form the descent stage. It's important that this does not contaminate Curiosity's internal sampling system.

How many people on earth touched and loaded the rover? Were they all decontaminated? The whole rover is material from earth. So how can it contaminate itself? Nasa is a fake news, money generator

@perrobravoperocastrado2286
@perrobravoperocastrado2286 2 ай бұрын
Yeah, doesn't make a lot of sense, does it? There is a reason though, they just didn't bother explaining it here... The mission is to collect several samples of rocks, drilled cores, soil, etc, from the Martian surface. They want to find out if any signs of E.T. life can be found in the samples, pretty much just ancient microbial life. Most of the samples came from a dry lakebed that was fed by rivers at some point millions of years ago in Mars. The samples are sealed and stored internally in the rover, waiting for retrieval by a future mission that will bring them back to us. They don't want to take the risk, however small, of a tiny piece of plastic from Earth containing bacterium, contaminating even a single sample, they are all pretty much priceless. If in fact that tiny shred of plastic was to be found inside one of the sample containers it would be useless for the purported study. They really don't want to take any risks whatsoever of potential sample contamination.

In about Fifty years Mars will no longer exist. In its stead will be a ball of bacteria that is twice as large as its former host. It has intelligence, and can engulf planets bigger than earth, in a matter of days. Thrives on the remains of all organic beings. It can in short order ...ohh heck. Here is a gift for anyone who writes to finish it into a 100,000 word novel. That is my gift to the future writer you can become. Give it a title, write the story, Copyright it, and become famous. Its a little know fact that NASA ha only sent 2 rovers capable of detecting living life and they were viking 1 & 2 in 1976. All life detecting experiments on both landers were positive results for life on mars save for one, the GCMS. It detected no organics but it was later proven to be flawed and we know for a fact there are complex organics on mars. The viking landers meet all of NASA pre-mission requirements for announcing the discovery of life on mars but since the GCMS said no organics = no life they put the breaks on it. But about 10 years back a rover found organics and proved the GCMS to be flawed thus the only reason NASA had for not announcing the discovery of life on mars wasnt valid. They never talked about it again after viking and never again did NASA send a single piece of equipment to mars that is capable of detecting living life. Some of the original scientists that worked on the viking landers straight up say they had discussion with higher up at NASA who told them that the ambiguous result were bad for future manned mars missions and will further extant life detecting experiments are banned.
