Legend, one of the world's funniest people. You can see him effortlessly throwing off one-liners, funny responses, just a great Letterman guest. Love MB.

RIP. As great a screenwriter as he is, Woody Allen was at his best with Brickman.

My dad’s cousin also performed at the 1957 Moscow Youth Festival. It was about as weird as Brickman described.

In 1963 he and Eric Weissberg recorded an album of banjo music. In 1972 much of the album was licensed for use in the movie "Deliverance" (but not the famous "Dueling Banjos", which was from a different session). In 1964 he joined a band fronted by John and Michelle Phillips, but he left after about a year when he was hired as a writer on The Tonight Show. He was replaced in the band by.....Denny Doherty.

That guy was a legend. I mean, a screenwriter who played the banjo, wrote some songs and a few movies, and managed to get an Oscar and a gold medal!? Not too many people can be like Marshall Brickman.

He wrote for Johnny Carson too, not too shabby.

I’m guessing Mr. Brickman wasn’t invited back to the show. Oh well. At least we have this clip. RIP.

I wonder if that old gaffer was the same old gaffer that Sam (Sean Austin) keeps talking about in Lord Of The Rings
