Awesome demo. Absolutely love the tones you got. Incredible playing as well. I scored the JCM 2000 100 watt version recently and it pairs nicely with my Boogie Tremoverb from 94’. Cheers!

The dsl 100 had a mesa boogie like oversaturation quality too it that I liked, but also had less lower mids, while the jcm sound more like a hot rodded marshall. Both are great.

I’m pretty sure this is the only video of these two. Lol. Thanks so much for doing it though. Both sound killer though. Ide be happy with either. The dslr sounded like it cut through the mix better though. I’m sure with an eq pedal you could make it sound identical to the jcm2000

That DSL 100HR sounded tighter and felt like it had better headroom than the JCM2000, although it sounded like it was lacking some low end. If there was some bass added to that DSL, it would have definitely be the tone winner in my book, but that's just my opinion.

I have the original DSL2000 100. AMAZING AMP. The deep switch is awesome when you are "playing with yourself", but, sonically, WAY too muddy when you are playing with a band. AWESOME AMP!

And Ace Frehley. And Jeff Beck. And Gary Moore. And Richie Sambora... I have the JCM 2000 DSL 50 and the DSL40C, and when run into the same cab I hear the same thing. The JCM is much more aggressive and raw, and the DSL is smoother. I like the JCM more, though both make me happy. And yes, I bought my DSL 50 almost a year ago for 300 dollars.

I liked them both. The 2000 seemed to cut through more but that could be how you have the Presence and Treble set. I have the 100HR but I use pedals and I have TONS of high end that sounds more like what you're getting out of the 2000 in this video. Interesting video, thanks 😁

Fun Fact; Steve Grindrod designed the two-input Master Volume 2203/2204 in 1976... he also designed the JCM 2000 DSL100 in 1995 to compete with the Mesa Dual Rectifier.

Hey TriCrow Studios, thank you for doing this video. Awesome playing, awesome recording, and fantastic job. Please keep posting! As a former owner of a DSL100HR, I have been curious about the difference's of the JCM 2000 versions. Question for you. Which would you purchase, a used JCM 2000 DSL100 or brand new DSL100HR given they were the same price? I miss the DSL HR100 and looking to purchase one of these.

I really liked the older DSL compared to the newer one! Although the Resonance control gives you a little more control over the “woof” of the Deep Switch on the JCM 2000. You wouldn’t really go wrong with either… The Reverb on the JCM is way better, but the digital reverb on the DSL100HR isn’t that bad. I wish I could give a better answer. Best of luck! Cheers -Ryan

Maybe it's due to how each amp was EQ'd, but I hear a little more of a boxy (not in a bad way) midrange/fullness in the DSL100HR. Relative to the DSL100HR, the JCM2000 sounds a touch more scooped and, in this video, a little more balanced. The DSL100HR has more grind due to the more pronounced midrange in this comparison.

I am right now looking to buy one or the other of those heads after not having had a Marshall since I sold my old JMP 50 w/preamp/master a few years ago (I know, I am a jackass for selling that). I have a Duel Rec but I have missed the Marshall sound and feel for a while. The JCM has that sound, at least in this clip. Both fantastic, the DSL sounds like a great generic metal amp, but that JCM sounds like a Marshall.

Great shootout! I wish you would do one between the jcm 2000 DSL 50 and the dsl-100h. But both of these amps that you used here sounded excellent and I am the owner of a jcm 2000 50 watt. But it definitely changed my mind about getting a DSL 100. They both sounded excellent in my opinion. And all things considered equal, I would never run any tube amp without a good 10 band EQ. So there's that.

Good luck finding a jcm 2000 for $400 rn. I found a beat up one for $600 on eBay and that was the cheapest one I saw in months of searching. So I see I see all of these KZbinrs saying they are $300-$400 bucks. Not anytime the last few years unless you totally hit a miracle somewhere. After a $250 tech visit she sounds great but that’s $850 bucks for a beat up one. And yes if you’re good with amps I’m sure you could have done the work by yourself. So you can take $125 off of that if you do it yourself for just new tubes.
@Crypticmaskguitar

Haha it’s for sure a “Waiting Around” type of price in local areas rather than eBay or Reverb. I’m in Canada as well... Long and McQuade stores out here will generally sell them for $499 and $599 for the TSL 100. I saw both of those prices last summer. In my area of Edmonton people will list them for Private Sale at $900 or so and then after no one buys them they keep decreasing the price. A lot of people who aren’t familiar with a spring reverb tank get scared that they area broken because of the sound so that turns people off. I bought mine probably 5-6 years ago but on our buy and sell I usually see 1 or 2 that end up around the same price as a MA100 used which is about $400. But that doesn’t mean that is the same everywhere, for sure. I was lucky as well where mine hasn’t experienced any issues... at least not yet. Cheers -Ryan

I have not. Personal preference is 100w+. The DSL 100 HR has half power mode so you can run it in 50w. You should be able to get away with a DSL20 with a drummer, I’m sure. And in a venue you would generally mic your cabinet and go through a PA. So it’s really up to you wether or not it is going to bother you over the wattage. You can get more body with higher wattage but of course you have to increase your volume level. Best thing to do is try them both out. Cheers -Ryan

I do think that amp is catching on a classic though will not always be cheap as they become for rare. It's all preference for sure. The new DSL can't exactly capture that low end "Spot On", but certainly gets close. But the new DSL has more smoothed out Highs, it's hard to dial something like that in on the JCM 2000. They both have their benefits. I'd say the JVM Series has these beat, though. I get a lot more use out of my JVM 410H than either of these. But again, preference. I have not tried the Friedman BE Deluxe OD, though. But The Friedman BE 100 Deluxe Head is on my list of heads that I want buy. I keep saying to myself that I'm going to buy a Rivera Knuckle Head 120 this summer,, but, there is a store out my way that stocks Soldano SLO-100s and Friedman BE 100 Deluxe Heads... @@Crypticmaskguitar the cab was looking for 2x12 ... does the 2x12 mesa cab have that low end too? .. ENGL 2x12 would give me those basses? And could be marshall 2x12 a good choice?..Mesa,ENGL,EVH and Marshall 2x12 are the cabs that i am thinking for DSL100HR..but i'm undecided 😅

I have a Mesa 4x12 and a Mesa 2x12 Vertical Cabinet. The Vertical Cabinet doesn’t really produce the same low end. But I believe the 2x12 Horizontal gets pretty close. EVH uses Sheffields, I believe. Marshall still uses the 75s, I believe. ENGL would be a good choice, from what I’ve read. Best thing would be to try them all out if you have that option. Most stores will have a DSL100 to plug into. Pop the cabinet in front of you and move around. See if you can catch something that works for you. Cheers -Ryan

From what I can gather it’s a mixture of faulty boards and slight departure from the signature sound. Craziness I tells ya! Cheers -Ryan

Eventually. I do have a TSL 100. But it probably won't happen for a while. I have 37 Amp Heads and quite a few requests. Cheers -Ryan
