Got my JVM 410H ten years ago for 1150.00. It is a true England made amp and Birch wood for the enclosure. The DSL 100 is made in Vietnam and has a MDF fiber board enclosure. Buy a used JVM and rest assured that the build quality will make up for the difference in price. You get 4 channels(12 if you consider the modes) in stead of two, better transformer, better build quality and the six channel foot switch works with a guitar cord. The JVM is a much better investment and one of the most versatile amps ever made.

Every time I see you post a video with the JVM 410 I miss mine a little more, lol. It is such a great amp. The amount of versatility that JVM offers is unreal. That being said, one of my favorite ways to set that up was leave it on the amber/OJ mode of OD1 with the gain set fairly low (I think somewhere around the 9-10 o'clock). Still plenty of gain the riff with, but I thought it would clean up real well with the volume that way. I wouldn't have thought the interference from lighting and such would be so noticeable between the two, so that's something new I learned. Thanks for the video!

The 100 straight up sounds like a jcm 800 and a Recto had seggs and cut thru the mix better imho. That said, both sound fantastic. Also, you can get used 410h for around 1000-1200. New DSLs are $900. In case anyone was saving up or considering one over the other due to price difference, it's not huge.

If the JVM tone was a new, just-opened tub of Breyer's Mint Chocolate Chip ice cream, the DSL would be that same tub of ice cream 5 mins later with a huge chunk of it scooped out of the middle. I didn't expect such a huge tonal difference but wow, I vastly preferred the tone of the JVM here and it wasn't even close. Just sounded so much richer and present. I own a DSL but it just did not do it for me here. Thanks for the awesome video.

I have a DSL and bought it practically new for just $484. Here in Europe it's cheaper on a dollar basis, and that was the old pre-inflation and Black Friday price. I don't use it for high gains, I just grabbed the opportunity and I'm happy. I admit that when it comes to high gain, JVM wins for me. It sounds raw and aggressive, but it's a matter of taste. For this I have a copy of the Mesa 2x12 Baltic birch cabinet on Chinese V30. And believe me it sounds. Reduction to 50W is also useful. I would probably choose JVM, but I'm just an amateur and I already have my Marshall ;), and I would pay 3 times more for JVM. Here in Poland it is a lot of money. You can always try used ones, but you know - it can be different with the condition of the tubes, and the choice has already been made. Regards, cheers ;)

Great side-by-side! I've owned both and still have my JVM and a 1960 cab , which is retired to my practice room. The DSL sounds great and sits nicely in a mix, but the JVM has that little "extra" that pokes thru a live mix when it needs to. Since around 99% of my playing is on stage, opposed to studio, the JVM wins. I can make any amp sit in a recorded mix. BTW, the alleged noise from the JVM is just that...alleged. Mine just has a little hiss until I unleash it. Maybe turn the gain down a bit?🤘👽

JVM has a more flexible tone that would be great in the studio. DSL is for up and coming bands who want a good Marshall sound for their live rigs. That’s how I think of this comparison anyway. I may be biased though, I own a JVM.

@Crypticmaskguitar3 жыл бұрын
Honestly I just make sure that the Tone Shift is engaged and adjust the Resonance along with the bass. It's a tricky balance sometimes. Also OD 1 if you are not using a boost and OD 2 if you are using a boost. Otherwise OD 2 sounds like a really bad octave pedal. Cheers -Ryan

The DSL100HR is lacking midrange, the critical frequency range that defines the sound of an electric guitar. Consequently, it sounds scooped and thin. It could work well for death metal, but for classic rock and classic metal, I'd go with the JVM410H. The more you pay, the more tone Marshall gives you, or, you get what you pay for.
