Thanks Paul, great demo. I have a DSL15 and its amazing. The only way to get that Marshall sound is to get a Marshall, and the sound of that Epiphone is just amazing, really professional. These are basically like a rework of the now discontinued Haze series of amps, glad I have my Haze it is badass, which leads me to believe these probably are to. Only thing that concerns me is it might be a real close copy of the Haze and the 40W Haze combo has some frequent microphonic issues if I remember correctly, still will be a home run for a budget series Marshall. The 15W ones are amazing for home use.
@AuntAlnico42 жыл бұрын

The DSL40C appears to me to be conservatively rated.. It has pretty good size transformers,, PCB build looks very good,, (SMDs seem to be located on the seperate digital reverb board), power tubes are chassis mounted.so if biased fairly hot the heat from the power tubes does not affect the PCB board.. It seems to be better built than me new Laney LC50 that is the last ones to be made in England.. It has a spring reverb but the layout seems more messy and the power tubes are PCB mounted..And I can't find a test point to measure the plate idle dissipation.. My amp runs at 400V plate on its TAD selected EL34B-STR, as the filter caps are the more common ones with a 450V rating and 100µf. The marshall runs larger but lower rated filter caps in series with balancing resistors so the amp can operate beyond 500V. Between this and the blackstar HT40... get the Marshall.. THe blackstar runs at ~385V plate has numerous SMDs and a very small output transformer,,and is not a full tube amp. I think the phase inverter is transistor driven.. The plate voltage is around 450-460V depending on bias level, and with just a 270 ohm screen dropper (instead of choke) and large filter caps,, 165µf (two 330µf in series) on the plates and 50µf (two 100µf in series) on the screens this is in fact more a 50 watt amp than a 40 watt amp, unless the power transformer can't deliever enough current.. Put a celestion vintage 30 and you can cut through any loud mix.. But the amp is allready heavy so I would settle for a Celestion century vintage.. (Will cut the weight down with 1.4kg to a final weight of 21.5kg).. A Vintage 30 would give a weight around 24.5kg..which is super heavey for a 1x12 with a single handle on top.. Believe me my Laney with large transformer and a 70/80 weighs at least 23kg.. And it is a beast to lug around..

I would recommend the Blackstar amp. Both have fantastic clean and crunch sounds, but the Marshall can't really get a good high gain rhythm tone without pedals and the Blackstar can. What is the volume difference between the 40 and 15 and then what is the difference in volume between the two at half power? I have a 20 watt single channel Jet City and it gets pretty loud with gain cranked and volume at 3. So I was wanting to know if the 40 would be too loud for bedroom volumes and if so how much the half power cuts down on it. I would probably be hooking it up to my 1x12 cab as well. I am kinda confused as to how loud my current amp is compared to one of these.
@Zodicus11 жыл бұрын
Yea but the 40W has a Half-Power switch that cuts the output by half making the amp go to 20W. So if you're willing to spend the extra 100 bucks (I'm assuming, dunno the price range for both amps) you can get the 40W and use the Half-Power to do your small gigs and practices but still manage to have that higher output if the venue is bigger.

It's called shuffle, it's easy, just start from the low E, pick a high fret note, could be any, say the 12th note on the low E, then slide it all the way to the open note or wherever your chord is. So if your chord is at the third fret, Do 12s3 on the low E string then play the chord.

+nunchuckerz - I use the 40 for home use and I like the results.. This amp is quite good with 2 mods.. 1)change the speaker to a creamback or a Warehouse guitar speaker like the Invader(good speaker and good company) they are reasonably priced. 2)the bright cap mod. It's very simple.. You just snip one of the legs on a capacitor.. You can find directions on web. This amp is too bright and harsh on the red channel.the mods resolve this. Buy one used and do those mods and you will have a killer little tube Marshall that's quite versatile.

whats the difference between the head and the combo.can u get the same sound from the head and the combo??should i buy the head or the combo.plz someone help tthanks?
@dzemohendrix10 жыл бұрын
For the head you need a seperate cabinet. I suggest a 4x12 with V30's. With the combo, you actualy get a cabinet fused with the head. It is a 1x12 tough. If you want to practise, I suggest the combo. But for recording, I definetely suggest pushing your walled out some more for a good cabinet, and a good head, and a good microphone. Be aware that some combo's have a built in outlet for cabinets. Soo you can basically bypass the combo's speaker, and make the "head part" of the combo play the signal through the cabinet. I'd save some money for a propper rig tough. An AFD100, a good noise gate, a tube screamer, delay and a wah. Get a 4x12 with V 30's. And an SM57 for recording. This is just my personal taste in amps.
@manaraslespaul10 жыл бұрын

I have the dsl15c. My review. Clean channel is amazing. Throw an overdrive or treble booster in front of it for an amazing sound. Distortion channel is shockingly bad. Way to much gain and it thins out when you roll back the gain enough. Tone shift is just pointless to me as it ruins the sound. Deep switch makes the amp really beefy at low volume and is great.
