Which is nothing compared to the lives that Japan, Germany, and the British Empire took. Which is nothing compared to the number of lives the Soviet Union and China killed of their own people. Those other countries killed far more than the US, that's a statistical fact by every report you could find. Nobody was innocent in that war. Millions more would have died if those two nukes weren't dropped, think about it. There would have been an invasion by Russia, and also the US, and millions would have died instead. Japan dragged the US into it by attacking the US first. The British were begging the US to intervene in another European conflict before Japan attacked, of which constantly happened prior to the advent of the nuke. The US didn't want to be involved in the war at first. I'm not saying the nuke brought peace, but it did become a deterrent that's caused nations to hesitate having another major conflict like a world war.

@@deft5738lol Even hundreds of more destroyed Japanese cities with conventional weapons did not force the Japanese to capitulate. Two less destructive bombs forced? As an American, this was an embarrassment to the world. Our first president was correct: “Europe has a set of primary interests which to us have none or a very remote relation. Hence she must be engaged in frequent controversies, the causes of which are essentially foreign to our concerns. Hence, therefore, it must be unwise in us to implicate ourselves by artificial ties in the ordinary vicissitudes of her politics or the ordinary combinations and collisions of her friendships or enmities…It is our true policy to steer clear of permanent alliances with any portion of the foreign world, so far, I mean, as we are now at liberty to do it, for let me not be understood as capable of patronizing infidelity to existing engagements.” His Excellency George Washington.

@@RobinAsp77 well that was a quote from the 1700s, the super powers at the time were Britain and France and the Byzantines held Jerusalem. A much different world. The quote is meant to exemplify why we are here in the first place, because the USA chose to get involved with “allies” to fight “enemies”. It will never work, all we do is create more enemies. You are correct that it is the US now that the others jump and dance too, but it is the bankers and usurers who the US jumps and dances to. God bless.

George Washington spoke 250 years ago, in an agrarian society, before widespread industry, before mass warfare, before nukes, back when Europe regularly erupted into 20 year wars because of a legal dispute over who sat on a chair, and when it took as long to cross the Atlantic as it currently does to get to Mars. Thomas Jefferson even thought it would take 1000 years to settle the West. It took less than 100. Many of the Founding Fathers thought that the USA was doomed to fail. Thankfully, they were wrong. He was a great man with great insights, many of which still hold today. This isn't necessarily one of them, and the issue of transatlantic ties should be looked at on its own merits.
