It just sounds louder, not so much better imo. Euge was kinda adjusting the output volume on the fly as he was switching between the amps, so they weren't exactly identical in output level. The extra loudness of the 100w then made it appear as if it sounds bigger.

Sounds great! I have the 2203 head and the 4103 2x12 combo and wondered if the new mini sounded like the originals. Much of what makes a great amp is the feel -- is it touch sensitive, have immediate response and percussive attack. The great Marshalls also have all these harmonic overtones and "sparkle" that add to the great sound.

It's a cool little amp. I'm surprised it's running EL34's honestly with all the 20 watt amp trending going on with amp makers since most musicians have home studios and venues are looking for less stage volume these days and more PA volume. I thought it was running EL84's. But that would change the tone. I guess they realized to get it truer to 800 tone it needed to run 34's. I'd love to hear how one could be shaped with different tubes. Tons of amp makers load in Sovtek tubes from the factory and those tubes sound so harsh to me. I wonder how the Studio Classic would sound with a basic JJ tube swap. Nice video Euge as always.

@EugeValovirta230V3 жыл бұрын
They’re like all older Marshalls; I’ve played with some really ballsy 900s but also with some really weak sounding ones. The SL-X is the best 900 IMO. It’s basically 800 2203 but with 4 preamp tubes so it has more gain. The other 900s has a clipping circuit (like Jubilee) which is ok but for that purpose I like SD-1 more (which is a clipping circuit too like basically all overdrives). So my advice is: try it out and if it sounds good it’s good 👌😎. If it’s SL-X I’d probably go for it ’cos they’re the best 900s and quite hard to find.

How do you push it for solos, I mean a real push that works in a punkrock context wirh another loud rhythm guitar goin? the pedals I tried don’t work.

Live our FOH takes care of the volume lifts whenever needed. But a simple transparent booster like Wampler db boost in the fx loop would work.

Euge... Is there any chance you could do a head to head between this amp and the 5150 LBX-S, playing the same style as this video? Thanks

I just borrowed this amp to do the video but you’ll never know if I’m able to borrow both amps at the same time someday 😎.

Great video. Would you recommend the sv20 for home levels playing, as in can I get a pretty close jcm800 tone for home.
@EugeValovirta230V3 жыл бұрын
Thanks! It’s loud as F as well so I’d recommend an attenuator / power soak for home levels playing. kzbin.info/www/bejne/e6rGaqqKhaqFsMk kzbin.info/www/bejne/pJWof41uj9xrhJo

@@EugeValovirta230V ok great thanks for letting me know. I might be better off looking into a Friedman as they say they have great master volumes. Which Friedman would be closest from what you have played. Thanks for taking time to reply as well

Closest to a Plexi (SV20) is the Small Box IMO. Closest to 800 2203 is the Marshall Studio Classic which is a 20watt 800 😎.

Great vid, i've been looking at treating myself to one of these for months. Im still stuck between this and the plexi, unfortunately the lack of a master on the plexi puts me off as i will do the neighbours heads in, i know attenuator is an option, but then again its more money if i want a half decent attenuator. A shop in the UK informs me Marshall will soon be discontinuing these handmade studio heads, and they have a JCM800 in ltd Navy Blue left, so i may snap it up before i regret it. And maybe get a plexi later on, if i actually have somewhere to crank it!

Get it man! It’s great! Well they all are but 800 being my all time favourite amp it’s a no-brainer IMO 💪😎.

I was gonna get one of these little guys but when I watched videos comparing to the real thing ( yours included, thanks for that btw) the 100w 800 has WAY more punch and more headroom, the studio sounds like it has a blanket on covering it... because of that I decided to get an EVH El34 50w instead

Love your videos. Your playing is excellent and I learn so much! I just picked up one of these SC20’s. I plugged it into my Blackstar HT Metal 1x12 cab with stock speaker and it sounds very bright and brittle. Any recommendations on a speaker cab or replacement speaker? I would like to go with a 1x12 so easy to transport. Using Les Paul with EMG 57/66.
@EugeValovirta230V3 жыл бұрын
Thanks man! Glad to hear! One of my favourite speaker is Celestion’s V30 so I’d try that. It’s very aggressive speaker but also very balanced IMO. I also like Celestion’s 25watt Greenbacks which are a bit darker & smoother and I also like Eminence P50Es a lot which I have on my Fryette 4x12 Fat Bottom cab. They’re kinda like a hybrid between V30s & Greenbacks 👌. With 1x12 cab is quite hard to get a big fat sound so I’ve pretty much always used 4x12 and very occasionally 2x12 cab = more ”speaker-area” & more ”sounding board” = the bigger & fatter the sound 😎💪. Even when / if only one speaker is being mic’d. The cabs I’ve used the most are Fryette Fat Bottom, oversized Mesa w/ V30s & Marshall w/ V30s.

@@EugeValovirta230V Thanks so much for the info. I’ll try one of those speakers in my small cab but, you’re right,I think I need to consider stepping back up to a bigger cab if I want the killer 800 tone. Keep those videos coming if you can - love them. 🎸🤘
