Unapologetic, in your face, and searing rock n roll tones from this 1988 Marshall JCM800 2203. It's a bit stiff under the fingers and wild on the top end, but this amp rewards a tight player with super ballsy and cutting tone. This amp definitely deserves its legendary status.

As a guy that used mesa boogie for ages, i'm really starting to fall in love with how versatile jcm 800 is. It amazes me how many different tones you can get by just playing with the volume pot. Shit goes from 60's rock to lamb of god real quick
@BigTyronie
@BigTyronie 8 ай бұрын
Dude i love mesas… i always like the dual rectifier but with mids and when the stilettos came out i hoped itd be like running a superlead and recto together. It kind of is and Im one of the 6 people who like the stilettos😂 But all that said my favorite amp at the moment is a dsl 100hr i picked up with a 2x12 marshall cab for 1000 two months ago. Its great. Delay, flanger, eq pedal, wah and chorus and its pure brutality and i can go to clean just by rolling the guitar vol down. Its pure jot to play
@untoldguitarist
@untoldguitarist 8 ай бұрын
@@BigTyronie That's because Mesa set the fixed bias range so low on 6L6's, to open up the tone on a Dual Rectifier, or any of the Recto's from Mesa. If using you have to get hotter grade 6L6's and run them in EL34's. Besides a early Rev C or D Duals, I yet to hear any other Dual Rectifier tone that sounds better then my Triple Rectifier head that is a 2ch Rev G that I fully retubed. It stomped all the other Rectifiers I've owned into the ground, with tone head room and clarity and note definition. It literally has tons of mids and highs on tap, as well as low end. Also at the time I traded my Mesa Boogie TC100 plus cash for a Tim Caswell modded Marshall Plexi Super Lead 100. And I compared that amp even to my Triple Rectifier head and they're neck and neck on tone. The Plexi lacked the low end that the Triple Rectifier head already had and it didn't have a efx loop. So I sold it to man who was gigging a lot of shows and payed very well for that amp. I just couldn't justify keeping an amp that cost more then my Triple Rectifier, when it doesn't sound any better.

A Soldano SLO 100 does. Go play them side by side and see for yourself. More clarity, smoothed out EQ through out the entire amp and not all just mids and highs. SLO's are the original high gain boutique amplifier that everyone else copied off of. EVH 5150 Block letter, Mesa Boogie Rectifier ,etc which are almost Identical pre amp rip offs of a Soldano SLO 100.

@ZachWish 4 жыл бұрын
@@matejgligorevic2632 You could mic both speakers separately which could be a cool effect if they were two different speakers like a Vintage 30 and a Greenback or something like that. This cab has 2 Celestion Creamback H75 speakers in it so it wouldn't really sound too different if I were to mic both speakers separately. I've always miced the same speaker on this cab, just need to watch out for any phase issues when you start using more than one mic but it's a cool way to do it I think. The condenser gives you a good amount of body where the 57 gives a healthy amount of top end.

Way to really show off some of the range you can get out of an 800. Some seriously meaty sounds coming out of this thing!

BEST sound, BEST amp, Hands down. Only needs this and the original copy of a tube screamer and you've got that 80's everything sound we've all been wanting. So... anyone wanna give me one? Still kick myself in the @ss for selling mine. NEVER again!!!!

Easily, EASILY the best sounding amp of all time. I can listen to the jcm 800 all day long regardless of the type guitar that is being played through it.

I like how that BB preamp doesn't have as much as a mid hump as the TS9, a lot of clarity.

I started with a Valvestate 8080, then got a Bluesbreaker 2x12, then traded for a JCM800 2x12. So wish I still had those amps, but this amp & your tone make me crave more, more please

I love that black Gibson Les Paul. I wish I have one like that but with 2 different pickups like on Mark Tremonti's PRS singlecuts and the Gibson Jerry Cantrell Les Pauls.

Great video (as always)! You're right...the JCM800 2203 does indeed reward a tight player, and it also conversely exposes a player with sloppy chops. It makes me think of the Soldano SLO100 in that regard (not sonically so much, but in the "you can't hide sloppy playing" category). I would love to know your opinion and thoughts on Soldano amps! Take care, good Sir!

Thanks very much! It's been a LONG time since I've played a Soldano, but I remember really digging it. Never owned one though. I've been wanting to get my hands one on of those new SLO 30's. Even just in the NAMM clips they sound pretty sweet. Thanks for checking out the video!

I know Soldano amps aren't everyone's cup of tea, but they sure are mine! I was fortunate to save up enough money to have Mike build me a custom one-off amp when he was still building them in Seattle (before selling the company to Boutique Amps Distribution). Even if Soldano amps aren't for everyone, many guitar players can agree that they are some of the best built amps of all time. Some have said they are overpriced for what you get feature-wise, but I would just politely say, "Just plug in and play the overdrive channel and the normal channel in 'crunch' mode. You'll get it." If you ever put up an SLO30 video, I can't wait to see it! All the best to you!
