In a graples story, it showed Gumball’s short story where he was playing checkers with butterscotch butler (peppermints genderswapped character). While playing checkers with butterscoth, Gumball was talking about defeating her or something, but while playing, Gumball was getting destroyed as the game continued. And while butterscotch was demolishing Gumball, she exposed some of his secrets, and one of those secrets is “regrets”. Interesting enough, when she said regrets MARSHALL appeared. So what this basically means is that Marshall is one of Gumballs regrets, which probably meant that they once dated and Gumball regretted it cause it still hurts him.
