I find it amazing that this may be my first ever review for a pair of on-ear headphones. They’ve never been a favourite for me, since I dislike the fit and feel, generally speaking. But this season, after I tried a whole boatload of gear including speakers and other headphones from Marshall, I found myself loving the brand, so I set aside my prejudice and clapped on the Marshall Major III on-ear wireless headphones for this review. I spent a weekend with them and here’s what I found.

Looks & Styling
These headphones, much like the portable speakers and the Marshall Monitor headphones, have a definite retro look. With cushiony-looking ear cups wrapped in leather-look vinyl fabric and copper accents, like on the multifunction button, these are vintage, but modernized.
The Major III are collapsible and fold up into a fairly compact package so you can travel with them easily. There’s also a microphone built in so you can take calls.
Comfort and Fit
The first time I tried these on, I have to admit I was quite surprised about two things. One, that they were very comfortable, even pressing on my ears they felt soft and surprisingly cushiony. Second, there was a LOT of sound isolation. Sound isolation is the blocking of outside noise using a physical barrier like cushions or padding, where noise cancelling is a digital process that cuts sound bleed. These headphones have a lot of power to stop most sound bleed, and that was a pleasant surprise.
Setting up Marshall Major III on-ear wireless headphones
Getting these headphones set up and paired was easy. To get them paired, push and hold the small copper button on the left ear cup for about five seconds; at first you'll hear the sound of them powering up, but keep holding an extra few seconds. Then go to your phone's Settings Menu, then to Bluetooth and look for the Marshall Monitor III in your Bluetooth devices list, then click to connect.
Sound quality of Marshall Major III on-ear wireless headphones
After my previous Marshall reviews I wasn't at all surprised that these headphones sound very good. The bass is quite strong and really resonant. Vocals were clear and the headphones sound quite balanced. The high sound quality, combined with the sound isolation make them ideal for travel or commuting, or trying to work distraction-free.

Call quality: Marshall Major III on-ear wireless headphones
The call quality on these headphones is great. It's clear and static free. I was easily able to hear my callers and my callers said the audio on my end sounded very good too.
Wireless connectivity
Connectivity is???
The wireless connection on the Marshall Monitor seems really strong. I wandered all over my house and left the phone in my office and there was never a drop-not even a crackle.
Copper multi-function button
Marshall put a lot of thought into keeping the design of these headphones clean and streamlined. The small copper multifunction is the chameleon of buttons. Push it in to power on or pair. Click it up or down to adjust volume. Side to side and you're skipping tracks. A quick press when there's an incoming phone call will answer it then hang up, and a double press sends it to voicemail. That same quick press during music playback will pause the sound. The controls are simple, yet natural and intuitive.
Automatic connection After your initial pairing, the Marshall Monitor Bluetooth headphones will reconnect to that same device once you power them on. I found this worked well, though I was a bit disappointed to see they couldn't be connected to more than one device at a time (like my phone and tablet).
Battery Life & Charging
The Marshall Major III on-ear wireless headphones have a declared battery life of over 30 hours of playtime on a single charge. My test period wasn’t long enough to fully drain them so I’ll have to take Marshall’s word here.
Overall review of Marshall Major III on-ear wireless headphones
Overall these are pretty great headphones. They sound really good to my ears, they’re reasonably comfortable for on-ear headphones and they look pretty retro cool. If you’re looking for a pair of vintage-styled, on-ear premium headphones, you’ll enjoy these.

Thanks for your great review! I found a "Like New" Brown pair for $39.99, with full ability to return. How could I go wrong, right? Well, these headphones are amazing! I have been blown away at their ability to reveal what is in the recording, but deliver it with punch & slam, along with outstanding imagery, realism, and clarity. With this sound combined with such a convenient and retro form factor, these have become one of my favorite "go to" pair of cans ... and I have Audeze, AudioQuest, Beyerdynamic, Grado, Klipsch, Sennheiser, etc. cans for comparison. These are just very fun and engaging headphones. Thank you, Marshall, for reminding us how fun listening to music can be and not charging us an arm and a leg to do so!

These headphones have a very golden vintage sound to them, which sounds good. However! They sound like a watered down version of a vinyl player and not in a good way. If you listen to rock, Rap, house/trap/EDM the major 3s lack a lot of bass. And I found my old £20 headset from my local store had much more immersive sound. It does state that these are the headphones if you like your treble, but take my word for it they don't work well for the genres I listed. Although they are very comfortable, small and light so if that's your thing go a head. Me personally I love to have my headphones produce the levels of bass equivalent to Godzilla throwing a temper tantrum

These were really good. The next Marshall model was not. Mine fell apart after about a year. The adjustable sliders are on the inside in the newer model and they break easily. Sound is excellent but the hardware needs a redesign.

No. QC35II are a completely different set of headphones. It really depends on what you're looking for; these headphones are good in general, but the QC35II are debatably more versatile with the around-ear design and noise cancellation. Marshall makes something called the "Marshall Mid" headphones that have features similar to QC35II's. QC35II's are around 300-350USD, while the Major III's in the video cost around 100-130USD. If you just want no wire and don't mind on-ear headphones, these should be fine. The Bose QC35II's are more comfortable for many with cloud-like cushions, allowing users to experience 0 fatigue after long listening sessions, along with noise cancellation for a better user listening experience. To reiterate, if you don't care about features and just sound quality, they are equal. Bose equalizer/sound quality is an acquired affinity, so try them on at a Best Buy or Bose retailer if you can.

Good review Erin.... But the single function only feature is such deal kill especially for fairly high end head set . I didn't get the same comfort experience you felt.. I found Previous Headphones types clumsy and after 30 minutes they were coming off. However They'd be handy in Canada eliminating the need for the the cool looking earmuffs. I guess that would make them multi functional? Be well

This really is not a proper way to do a review on the headphones. Sure they are gonna sound good in a quiet room, but going out with them to a noisy environment and maybe using them for couple of days would provide better opinion. I've had them for several weeks now, and I can say that when you are outside, let's say walking along busy street the noise cancellation is almost non existent, but ofcourse they block some sound since they wrap around your ear canal. Have experienced some issues with bluetooth connection too, other than that nothing much to comlain about here. I've heard that the wiring isn't the best on marshall headphones, so you should use them carefully specially if it's out of warranty.

i have ATH M30X for more than a half year, using it with Asus Xonar U7 MK 2. Literally 2 hours ago I listened to Major 3 via smartphone using wire for a quick test. M30x sounds worse on smartphone, but no near as bad as Major 3. It sounded like cheap 10$ headphones for Skype calls only. I was lost after asking owner about price. He bought it recently for walking outside and using bluetooth. You definitely should get M50x instead of this marketing joke

I gifted Marshall Major 2 bluetooth couple of months ago.. Now I ordered myself a Major 3 bluetooth its arriving by thursday (Indian TimeZone). Some says that it has minor upgrades in sound quality (Neutral) in comparision to Major 2(Bassy) . But i think I will regret in one con that this major 3 dosent have a seprate on/off Bluetotth pairing button along with a Music controll button like Major 2

Thanks for review, but you're bit wrong. Most of the video going truthfully except sound quality. It sounds like a typical mid-level headset, nothing special. I can recommend this headset for sport or travelling, but don't buy it if your main reason for buying it is sound.
