E60 AMG The RAREST & Coolest Benz You've NEVER heard of - The 4 Door Hammer

One of my favorite cars of all time the e60 amg, based on the w124 500e Mercedes Benz is probably one of the coolest least known amg cars of all time. Luckily I knew someone with this unicorn, and was able to film it a little bit and make a video on it. Famous for being the first four door porsche and a pre merger amg, this is one cool sports sedan car.
Sorry I'm not the best presenter, and my driving and talking skills need some polishing up as I was a bit nervous to really give you guys a good live commentary on the drviing experience.

Beautiful car, but many misinformation about the .036 (500E/E60). Rear seats are not from a 500E or E60 or .036 at all. I cannot speak about the engine but I see some other interior items which are not 500E/E60 related. All those stickers are not official AMG.

That is not a "Hammer". AMG yes, and both use 6.0L V8s (M117 in the "Hammer" and M119 in the E60), BUT the "Hammer" is the AMG-tuned 300E/300CE/300TE (which was offered as a sedan, coupé and wagon between 1986 and 1991), while the E60 AMG was based on the 500E as a sedan-only. Also, "Hammer" is much more powerful and rare (386 hp/30 units) compared to the E60 AMG Limited (326 hp/45 units).

yes this technically isn't the OG Hammer car and has a different engine, but as a badass pre merger car I'll give it the name anyways even if im technically wrong. This car (e60) also makes 380hp the stock 500E makes about 326hp.

hammer was originally based of 300e and 300ce, they had the m117 engine with specially designed cylinder heads. This e60 has a m119 engine

@@fuzzygokoss it wasn't even called the e60. The pre merger "hammer" was a conversion from 300E to modified V8. The E60 comes from the factory as an AMG, no conversion just purpose built to take the newer V8.

Really cool, but I doubt all those stickers were originally on the car even after it was returned and rebuilt at AMG. The Pre Merger AMGs cars are the coolest ones in my opionion. Oh , and the Autotragic is not too fun ,but the Mercedes manual boxes were not very good either. I once drove a , late 80s era 190 2.3 16V with the Dogleg manual box and the gear change was quite "rubbery" is how I would describe it. Now that E30 M3 in there , that is the proper manual transmission car. It is too bad they stopped making cool cars like these.

AMG Japan had factory agreement to convert 500e to E60 spec, so would think that's the history of this car. Try to find another! Very very rare. And probably one the best investment you could make!

That steering wheel, cup holder and all those plaques are aftermarket and would not have been applied by the factory or amg only the engine one. AMG cluster is not rare the rare one is the 340KM/h one with the LCD display dial. All the stickers in the boot have been put on by a previous owner, also the gear knob is from a far later model as are those metal pedals.

Ok good to know, Never seen another e60 for all the reasons stated in video, and also theres not too many clear detail photos etc online of exactly what came in these all in for being schooled on the mystique of these cars. Yeah I was under the assumption alot of those plaques were added in, but I was more curious if there was some connection between autofashion and amg japan at the time, probably impossible to know the details without asking the original owner. Just looked up that amg cluster and I wouldn't call it not "rare" as its definitely a rare piece maybe just not the "rarest" thing ever. Cupholder and pedals make sense to be added in from newer amg cars. but is that steering wheel really aftermarket? Never seen this in a newer gen amg and it definitely has that "factory" feel to it, I'm not saying that in a mean way like, ''YOU ARE WRONG" ... just curious like i've mentioned not a clear history on any of these e60's and have never seen one other than this car and the wheel seems too specifically period correct "amg" for it to not seem like some option added when new.

Yung Marsh I could be wrong on the steering wheel but it just doesn’t look right, no emblem in the middle with the leather looking loose on the main hub and too many imprinted logos which can easily be imprinted into leather and as we all know with Benz less is more, AMG would put a badge on the boot, a label or two in the engine bay and one on the ashtray lid but that was usually only on factory cars that came straight from the factory as an original amg car, never seen the AMG logos on grab handles or on rear doors, someone was little over zealous, but great video regardless it’s a rare beast, I have a lowly 94 E320 Coupe which I’m hoping to transplant a 6.0 into one day as we never got the E500 or E60 here in Australia unless you imported them then they were odd being a LHD car but still what beasts for their time.

Would you put an GearVendors overdrive unit and a Supercharger? I would Just a correction, the car is designed by Mercedes not Porsche, they just had it partially assembled at Porsche factory to not disturb the normal W124 production line.

You have all your facts muddled. Firstly, that is NOT the Hammer. It's an actual E60 based on the E500, not even the 500E. The Hammer was based on the 300E, and 300CE respectively with a 5600 cc engine in one, and 6000cc in the later version, both engines I believe taken from the 560sel (not sure about this). The Hammer came with orange indicators. The owner here has simply changed the rims that the Hammer used and the body styling from the Hammer too.

This car is with out doubt a taylor made one from RECARO,, all these badges etc etc is like nothing i have ever seen on a 124036,, Also notice that the M119 60lm E60 badge,, BELOW to the left is HWA.. that stands for Hans Werner Aufrecht... as you may know the A in AMG,, Erhard Melcher is at that poin AFAIK no longer part of the real AMG process , but he have supplied engines etc etc through the years to Mercedes also take a look at the shape of the seats in this car + how the leather is,, it is nothing like the 124036 oem Recaro interior ,, even the steering wheel is custom leather covered,, not my taste but very individual.. i had a 91 500E with oem AMG 300 km tacho,, AMG rear exhaust parts,, incl exhaust tips etc etc,, i adored the car,, had to sell in 2008 and still regret it

Yes as the e60 is so rare and I have only encountered this one e60 and itll probably remain the only one I see in my lifetime the specifics of this car I dont know too much about. Like I mention in the video I just sorta filmed the car presented as It was that day and didnt know much about what exactly a e60 was or wasn't supposed to be spec'd with. We probably will never know the exact details of this car without getting ahold of the person who outfitted the car and ordered it in japan. One things for sure is the car looks great, and it is a Real e60 amg. The owner actually sold this car not too long after i made this.

Here in europe people have put them on the dyno. And the always get way over 400hp on these engine's. The are very underrated. Then E60 package came alos in the r129. I did a review on that sl60 AMG on My channel. I can tell the interior is not AMG package. AMG never had a interior package in that time. It is body engine and driveline package. And the could be ordered separate. The same package the also did for the 3.0 to 3.2 engine and the 6.0 V12 to 7.0 7.2 and 7.3 ltr this was al in the same era.

totaly mixed car, E class (93-97) did not came with only one electric side mirror, headliner should not be in black, front of the car looks like it was in bad crash and after repaired with cheap parts, and after all, its not even an hammer, they used 1st and 2nd generation W124 for hammers, and they used older engines from W126, not sure is this one even factory V8, a lot of pre-E class stuffs on E class model
