Just wanted to let you know that you are a meticulous machine! I've binge watched your Mad County Series like it's a season of Breaking Bad! Great work and awesome detail. I DIY everything and have built a wealth of experience over the years. It's nice to see someone else's input on things because you're never to old to learn. Again, keep it up and I'll keep checking in!

This video made me giggle :) as much as my husband loves to have everything perfect seeing where the screws are doesn’t bother him for some reason as long as they are all in line and evenly spaced 😁 now when he says “well what can ya do?” I know exactly what!

The trick on doors is to pull the foam moulding strip back and run the screws into the frame through then drop the moulding back in place and they are hidden. I never understood why they use tiny screws on door hinges. Btw its always a good idea on doors that connect garage to house to have some sort of seal gasket so car exhaust does not migrate to the rest of the house.

Did I see Floor Drains in the garage floor(not the sump in the storm shelter)? Will you explain how you plumbed those and where the water from the garage goes? Keep up the great videos!
@scottsteinlage76194 жыл бұрын
Hello friend. If I am remembering correctly he shows the drain install for the storm shelter in the video with the retaining wall build. However it could have been in the video with the shelter foundation pour. Hope that helps.

If the head is level and the jambs parallel you can hang a plumb bob dead center and move the bottom of the door left or right until the plumb bob hits a center point mark on your door threshold the door will be perfectly plumb. Then measure off the string at any point to get the jambs straight and true in the center. It is fool proof and quick. I have this 1/4" x 3" wide x 8' piece of aluminum bar that I use as a straight edge with my router to edge a 2x4 into a perfectly straight board to check my jambs full height as well. Then I put the door back on. On exterior doors I finish off with non expanding foam in the gaps to seal the door jambs. Sills have a door pan to make sure any moisture gets directed to the outside with the sill being set in three strips of urathane sealant. If you have a concrete stoop at the door make sure you install self adhering rubber membrane between the sheathing and the concrete to protect the sheathing, rim board and sill from any potential future water that would cause them to rot. I use two pieces of old fashioned clap board to form a space between the concrete and wood and since they are wedge shaped it is easy to remove them so that 440 board (the kind used in sidewalk expansion joints) down into the space with backer rod and self leveling joint sealant to seal the joint. I have a question. What are you doing for wind bracing on the walls? Are you doing portal frames at the doors?
@markosborn13944 жыл бұрын
I'm catching up on all these videos. It's great to watch your progress. I had a thought about how you secured the door to the framing on the hinge side. If you ever need to remove the hinges for any reason the frame will no longer be attached on that side. If you were to pull the hinge and secure the frame with a screw that would be countersunk behind the hinge plate you wouldn't have that problem.

Best storm shelter is using ICF concrete filled walls and below ground. Mono pour 6 inch ceiling. No window in the shelter. Here in tornado alley you want to be underground so flying debris doesn't spear you.
@MrPostFrame4 жыл бұрын
This is a room above the storm shelter, because yes, having an underground space to go is safest.

@@MrPostFrame I see now, i did not see that video. I am watching now. I would consider double layer plywood and shorter distances between joists. If that house drops in 1 layer of ply would not hold up.

You installed this door onto the sub flooring but if you have hardwood flooring down don’t you need to raise the area under the sill by 3/4 inch to accommodate that extra height?

What's your plan for finishing the inside of the door frame, after using a 2x6 door on a 2x8 wall? Wouldn't an 8 inch door casing have made that easier?
@johnwest813 жыл бұрын
Agreed. I’m not sure this was done correctly to be honest. It should’ve been an 8 inch jamb not a 6 1/2 inch jamb.
