After living in my 14x76 mobile home on my own lot near a lake with trees in Texas possums are a real problem digging under the skirting. I have lived in several mobile homes in years past and when they are set on a cement slab that extends out past the skirting, rodents won't dig under the home. Unfortunately, I bought this property and the home was already on it and no slab was installed first. Therefore, I have every kind of rodent digging holes under the house. They are nocturnal and only come out at night. I would recommend anyone placing a mobile home on land to lay a cement slab down first and extend it out past the skirting. The cost is definitely worth it because It is a real pain dealing with animals under your house.

wow I lucked out when I got my doublewide- they already put a decent brick and mortar skirt around it. It has little or nothing to do with the building holding it up but is definitely an expensive upgrade if you had to pay someone to do it. It comes with permanent vents with screens the can close for winter and an access to crawl under there. I got rid of the central heat and air that was needing to be replaced. Just a woodstove and room heaters. Window unit a/c's. Hot and cold water lines replaced and put inside the house on the ceiling so no more crawling under it for maintenance or freezing! I hate going under there and now I don't need to.

If they feel they can get the job done the RIGHT way for less than thats where they get a second or third quote and then compare what is being omitted in the quote that is less or more. Ya cant know whats the right way unless you look at the situation and can think of the climate of location and know what it necessitates. Thank you. I WILL be using this video for inspiration and tips as I have been thinking of a way to enclose/skirt the bottom of our new 4 season cottage in Canada. Both for warmth and to keep the critters out. I will be adding foam or silver roll bubble insulation on the inside as well. The only issue I might have is that it is built on clay and the ground might shift during the freeze/thaw cycle. The cottage is being built on helical piers.

Hey there, how did it go? I'm insulating my subfloor at our family cottage in central Ontario. Thinking I should skirt it too, and use the bubble foil rolls for insulation. We're built up on rocks though and the ground is very uneven, so I'll have to do some fancy framing and cutting on this project for sure

Great video and work. Here in Oregon we now have to be a minimum of 3 feet high, get a high rise water analysis by an engineer done, and have floodgates installed. @dereksellars
@dereksellars Жыл бұрын
@@deborahleedlb Hello, The cost depends on how much Material is in your area. It's not hard to do. I have done a few Mobil Homes. It was around $600,00 for Labor and Materials. But that was 7 years ago. I would say it's double that now.

One thing I'm especially looking for is the use of insulation or using insulated skirting. I'm in northwest Ohio. We do get some subzero temperatures during the winter and high winds anytime all year round. We out in farming territory so rodents are an issue. So that bracing and rodent-proofing is a plus on a number of fronts. Insulation would be an additional plus. There is also the issue of heavy rains turning the land into a pond all the way around my unit. I wonder if there's a way to keep rain water from getting under the house? Don't know if this will be of any help but... When I lived in a house (in Atlanta) we had several vents around the foundation. When I do mine, I will be installing vents that I can control.

Metal skirting or composite is far superior to vynal skirting since My place has metal and looks good but most in My park have vynal and some I saw installed (none are installed with as much care and professional look as you just did) and even those newer installs look poorly now, they sag, bow and start to deteriorate with holes and if you have a mower that even throws a pebble it makes a hole in the vynal, looks bad.

My concern is that a manufacturer home will move during seasonal changes. Your typical skirting has a good 2" of play at the top so when the home shifts it doesn't buckle the skirting. Block skirting doesn't even touch the house because of this movement. Maybe I missed it but your skirting looks like it didn't have any play meaning it'll buckle. Did it?

Hello from Canada, yes this was a very helpful video, really appreciate the time you took to make it. We just bought a mobile home, and we will be doing it your way. Question what type of vaper barrier are u using for crawl space.? We are using the clear 6 mil vaper. Hope you see this comment. Thanks alot

Depending if your home is there or else where. If you are in Canada Regular bubble barrier from your local box store will do great.

Looks great! Appreciate the rodent control measures. Did I miss the air vents somewhere? In the PNW we need plenty of those for moisture control.

@ 2:15 you show the wood attached to the top but you don't show _how_ you attached it. Can you please explain how it's done? Also, does this work for an area with frost heave? I'm in eastern Oregon, and it's the frost heave that destroyed the integrity of my vinyl skirting. Otherwise, thank you for a great tutorial video. I feel more confident now about replacing my mobile home skirting.
