Great comparison! I do believe your actions will change once you add current, or even wind drag on your line. Here in Texas I throw strictly 1/8 or 1/16 oz. That has a lot to do with shallow water and very little currents. I will use a 1/4 if I’m swimming a paddle tail, but not often.

Fantastic work! Couple things: 1. Never heard of this technique. Gonna have to try it! 2. What if you pop it gentler with the braid?

Try a double pop with braid. Iv always used a double and braid for trout/bass and reds. Single hop for flounder. Might as so have alot to do with your rod, you like a lot heavier rod, so no rod give when you pop.

That pontchartrain pop looks like it does a pretty good job of copying the tail flicks you see in small fish. Looks just like the little fish darting around our aquarium.
@jdglvr3 жыл бұрын
excellent footage, so many variables can be applied. In the fall fishing grass flats I felt like the triple pop would help cover the entire water column in 2-5 ft of water. lighter weight rods & longer leaders help get more lure action 3/16oz jig heads & matrix or vortex shads..
@saltwaterservant65263 жыл бұрын
That technique looks like forearm tendonitis just waiting to happen. lol
@clintfulbright15963 жыл бұрын
Also on the Matrix shad I always bite a little piece out of the tail to body section to give the lure more action on the fall with less weight. They are so strong i dont see a increase in tail biteoffs.

Interesting! So, why not just do a lighter version of the Pontchartrain pop with the braid? Same motion, shorter range up and down to try to produce the same action. Was hoping you would try it! I was experimenting the other day and this was the technique getting nonstop strikes. I use a shorter casting rod 6’ and 5’5” which also affects the action.

I get the jist of it but dang hard to really see what those lures are doing with the shadows/lighting in pool.
@ncoutdooradventures61483 жыл бұрын
Not sure if you've thought of this or not,,,where I fish these lures usually has a current,, sometimes bad, sometimes not much,, but always at least some current. There are times, especially if there's a wind, that we have to use a 1/2 oz jighead,, just to be able to fish the lure, instead of it just being drug across the surface! But we always try to fish the lightest we can get away with, but still get to "fish" the lure. But my point,, a current definitely causes the lure to act different than in a pool!

MMM thoughts on the difference in 12, 15 or 17# Fluoro ? Great Video.
@MarshManMasson3 жыл бұрын
Each step up is going to be less elastic, so it'll increase the movement of the lure with each twitch. We've been on a 12-pound kick lately because it made such a difference in the fall. Probably not as important right now, but you never really know how many bites thicker line is costing you
@jeffvining65342 жыл бұрын
It’s very informative,
@fishmaster9113 жыл бұрын
Do you get much line twist while jiggin ? I been using mono with a small swivel to floro leader, to me that keeps line twist down. I’d be curious to see is a swivel would change the action.
@MarshManMasson3 жыл бұрын
No line twist at all. Do you feel like you're getting it on the cast or the retrieve?
@fishmaster9113 жыл бұрын
@@MarshManMasson both, I mostly fish eel type baits so they don’t have anything to really stabilize them on a free fall. I like using a swivel, easy to tie on with no worry about a knot untying. Also easier to change my leader if necessary.
@KayakFishingAddict3 жыл бұрын
I think the difference is solely tail action. I wonder how both your techniques compare to simply swimming the bait back to achieve the tail action with an occasional twitch to mimic erratic direction change. Let's just say, that's the kayak fishing addict method that seems to work the best.
